Who: Lance & You!

What: Someone’s just arrived, and it seems like just in time for everything to be completely bananas.

a; lumiere floor 2
[Floor 2 has gotten a new arrival! He shows up bright and early, belongings in two, and he doesn’t waste any time putting his room together. He keeps the door open as he works on making his dorm room a home away from home, because it makes it easier to actually bring his stuff in.

The new arrival is in his late teens, and seems to be intermittently on the phone, talking in rapid Spanish, or whistling to himself as he puts his room together. He has a lot of photos to hang up, okay? Once he’s done, he settles himself in the common room, phone in hand.

When he notices someone there, he blinks, before grinning.]

Oh, hey!

[He spends a lot of his first day in Lumiere. Later in the evenings he can be seen wandering the hall, complete with facemask, as he texts somebody on the phone. He has already settled into a routine and it’s great.]

b; training grounds
[Well, it seems he’s arrived at...quite the time. Everyone’s gearing up for a fight against something called the Herald, and Lance is…

Well.

He’s not really sure what he should be doing about it…? It’s probably important for him to join the fight and show the Herald what for, but he kind of just got here and doesn’t really know what to do. Also, he kind of doesn’t really know how to actually use his powers…? They just kind of Happen. He doesn’t yet know how to control that happening.

He’s going to work on that.]

C’mon…

[He settles down in the training room, staring down a dummy. He holds his hand out, brows furrowed in concentration. And he stares. And he stares. It takes a little while, but eventually a shard of ice will form from his hand and launch itself towards the dummy. When that happens, he lets out a whoop and punches the air.]

Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about!

c; on campus
[Lance doesn’t spend that much time training. He knows he should, but he’s got more important things to do.

Like ingratiate himself onto the new masses. He also needs to learn the layout of the school, so he’s going to kill two birds with one stone and make new friends while exploring the campus. He greets anyone he passes with a wave - and a wink if it just so happens to be a cute girl.]

Good afternoon over there!

[He is practically sparkling.]

[ With everything that's happened and will happen in the future, James has his head in at least three places at once, constantly. So much to consider, so much to try not to be afraid of, so much to just process. He's floating around campus because constantly using his Flame is probably a good idea to try and strengthen it some more before the fight? Who knows.

Lance gets an almost instinctive response... ]

Hey, Lance.

[ ... and then a double take. ]

... Lance?!

[He's not expecting to see James Griffin, of all people, at a magic school for magic people.

Much less a James Griffin who's hovering above the ground.]

James? What are you doing here?

[Who allowed this??]

[ This is like an out of body experience and the fact that he is literally not grounded on the floor at all right now sure doesn't help the feeling.

Lance. He reacted to his name, he knows James' names, it's really just... an old classmate. ]

I'm... studying here? This is my school?

[ And logically, if Lance is here, it is also his, but... James still lets himself drop to the floor as if he had any plausible deniability on his flight left. ]

You go here?

[He doesn't need to sound so accusatory, probably.

Lance raises his eyebrows, looking at James like it'll make any more sense to him if he stares him down.]

Since when?

February, but I've been slotted for admission since I was a pre-teen.

[ This gives him seniority, clearly. The four months alone are simply not as impressive. ]

What are you doing here?

Wh- How?

[He's so...normal! He's always been so normal!]

I go here! You're not the only one who gets admitted to schools!

[And while Lance is roaming around campus and getting used to his new home away from home, he'll eventually spot Keith hanging out in a quiet corner of the quad with a certain space doggo. Keith's in the middle of giving the good boy some ear skritches when Lance approaches.

And it's pretty clear from his expression that he has no clue why the hell he's being approached. Like at all.]

Can I help you?

This isn't just any school though!

[ Which... Lance knows. Since he's here. That's still a lot to wrap his head around. ]

This is Daybreak Academy of all places! You don't just get admitted here. You're... you're a Candle?!

[Toki waves and smiles; he's hanging out with Kuroko, a generic black cat. There's more space in the common room to throw catnip mice for her to fetch.]

Hello~! Oh! New guy, have you seen a notebook that says 'Screenplays About My Cat' around anywhere!?

The training grounds are never completely empty, Gongenzaka finds. The mythril cage is one thing- you gotta book that, or at least have Some kind of permission. But general grounds make for a likely shot at casual encounters and shared techniques, which more than makes up for a so called loss of privacy in his opinion. It's better to be a Bit social, even if he's still...bad at it.

At any rate, the bear-in-uniform (and geta...and sash...and headband...) didn't expect to see someone CASTING in the training yard- which if anything makes the sight a little impressive.

Which is why Lance has a quiet applause. ...From a 5'8'' brown bear. (He looks a bit taller in geta)

Ice abilities? Interesting, they're often underestimated, but a good ice user can be incredibly dangerous.

[Says the girl who's been training before Lance even got here, and also just punched the head off of a dummy.]

[Where is Lia lingering outside? Doesn't matter. She's outside and enjoying the weather, and when Lance waves to her, she returns it with a smile.]

Good afternoon! I'm doing pretty good, how about you?

[First James, and now this? What, was Lance cursed? Was he an asshole in a previous life? Why is this happening to him?]

Keith?!

[He doesn't deserve this. He's a good person!]

What are you doing here?

Duh!

[Come on, James. Get with the program.]

Why else would I be here? I'm not going to go train my Flame in the Garrison.

[Awww, cute cat.

Lance blinks at the question, though, before shaking his head.]

Uh, no. But I just got here.

That's a bear. In clothes. A bear in clothes, which means it's probably not a normal bear? But it's a bear.

That's clapping for him, so it's a bear that's automatically in Lance's good graces. He bows with a flourish, before straightening up with a grin. "Glad somebody appreciates talent when they see it."

[Geez, girl, calm down. Those things cost money, you know.

Lance is pleased at the...sort of praise? though, and preens a bit.]

Well, it's the easiest way to put someone on ice.

I am doing fantastic.

[She's cute and friendly! That's not exactly a rarity, but, you know, it's nice.]

Getting the lay of the land, settling in. I just moved in.

Well, the fastest at least.

[She doesn't seem to have gotten the joke.]

You obviously have some practicing to do, but nobody masters their powers immediately.

Right, but it could have been left in your room! Anyway! I'm Toki, and this is Kuroko! We're down the hall!

[He tosses the mouse near Lance and Kuroko bounds over.]

What kind of powers do you have?

[An obligatory question.]

[ Wait a second. Alvarez. Alvarez. Alvarez. He's heard this name before, actually, outside of class and...

James.exe is rebooting. ]

You're not related to Veronica Alvarez, are you?

[Well, nobody's perfect.]

Oh, yeah, for sure. [He clears his throat.] This is my first time really being able to let loose.

Well, it wasn't.

[Which is probably a good thing, considering what the notebook is.

He nods his head, making note of Toki's nebulous location of down the hall.]

Ice powers. They're pretty cool.

[The pun isn't translated sufficiently.]

I could have used you like last week when we needed to keep a body cold!

She's my sister.

[Sorry to break it to you this way, buddy.]

Why? You got a problem with her?

[He'll kick your ass!!]
