Hello! My name is Paige Hirsch. I've been going here almost all my life, so some of you already know me from earlier grades. But I'm back this year to major in Runecraft! I wanted to say hi to all the new folks and ask what's new around Daybreak and Soleil, since I've been in the states for the past two years. So...yeah! Hello! What's new?

ps: Tonight is a full moon and I have a little tradition I'd like to return to. Feel free to stop by Lumière's first floor tonight for a snack!

ii. Lumière Floor 1 Common Room; night of july 16th

[Lumière is alive with the smell of honey and scones tonight. Paige sits on the couch, a plate piled high with apple scones in front of her to match a huge pitcher of soft mead on the kitchen counter. Everyone is welcome to come grab a scone or a cup of mead and enjoy the full moon's light pouring in through the open windows. She's keen to let you know that if you're passing by.]

Good evening! Help yourself, if you'd like.

iii. all around campus; all throughout july

[A travel mug full of tea and an empty notebook are all Paige needs to feel like she never left. She used to do her homework here in the hall of pythia all the time. But with school out for the summer, she settles for studying and fine-tuning her hand control for better inscriptions. Mostly she writes notes and ideas for charms. Occasionally, she doodles in the margins of these pages. What's most curious is that the letters she writes are...not letters at all.

When she isn't there, she can be found virtually anywhere as she takes her time re-acquianting herself with the grounds. She sits by the fountain and strums her guitar. She hangs out in the common room. She even visits the Root of Yggdrasil to look at the plants and select a few leaves or petals to press into oils later. Consider this half of the prompt your wildcard, if you don't want to find her in the library!]

[Is. Is that a wolf? A wolf has just walked into the dorm and is staring at the scones. Feed her?]

iii. Root of Yggdrasil - late July

[The greenhouse is hardly ever full of people, so a new face is most certainly noticed. Toki is on his way to check on his plot of catnip plants, trailed by a personal guard and wearing a child leash; both of which he pretends don't exist as he approaches Paige with a wave.]

Hello~! I haven't seen you around before! Are you new!?

[ something smells...really good in the kitchen. ana peeks her head in, simply out of curiosity, but the woman inside notices. ...ah, this is the girl from the network, probably. ]

Oh! How kind of you.

[ ana steps inside and picks up one of the apple scones. ] Would you happen to be Paige?

[Paige seems startled for a moment before she breaks out into a smile. A white wolf wanders in on her full moon offering? That seems...wonderfully auspicious. The fact that there is a presumably wild animal in the dorm doesn't bother her at all. This is Daybreak, after all.]

Oh, hello! [She follows the wolf's gaze and laughs a little.] I should have known. You probably smelled these clear across campus.

[She breaks a scone in half, offer a piece to the wolf. She's curious as to what exactly will happen, for one, but also just. Happy. This seems like such a lovely good omen, doesn't it?]

[Paige smiles brightly at Ana as she comes into the room. It's exciting, having people filtering in over time and being able to share her little tradition with everyone. Still smiling, Paige tilts her head curiously at the girl's question.]

Yes, that's me. Can I help you?

[The wolf bites the scone out of her hand, careful not to put teeth on the hand itself. Her tail starts wagging at high speed, and a flower suddenly grows on the ground outside the door.]

Welcome to Daybreak -- or rather, welcome back, I suppose. My name is Anastasia, but you may call me Ana.

[ she gives her a pleasant smile. ]

It's a pleasure to meet you.

[Paige turns from the chamomile she's examining.]

Oh, hello-

[Okay, she isn't going to be rude and ask, but she does stumble over her words while trying not to mention either extremely obvious and identifying feature.]

Yes and no. I've been coming here most of my life, but I just came back after a two year vacation in the states. My name is Paige.

[She extends a hand for him to shake, should he choose.]

[Oh no, how cute...she weg!! Paige laughs, offering the other half of the scone.]

You're a big fan of apples, I see. [The movement of a flower just suddenly appearing draws her eye to the door. She has to squint a little to see it in the dark, but once she realizes it's a flower, Paige is excited.] Oh, wow...did you do that?

Paige~! That's a pretty name; it suits you~!

[He takes her hand to shake.]

I'm Toki! I've been here since January, so you're still new from my perspective! Anyway! Are you growing that, or like gathering it for something!?

Thank you! [She must have seen the network post, to know that she's returning.] It's a pleasure to meet you, too, Ana. Have you been at Daybreak long?

[fullthrottleammy]

[She eats the rest of the scone, then looks back up to Paige.]

Bark!

[highelves]

No, not long at all. It's only been...three weeks, I believe?

[ now seems like a good time to bite into her scone. she does, and... ]

Mm! These are absolutely delicious!

[walkingwithaghost]

[Yeah, "bark" is a pretty good answer for a canine who is asked a question, she supposes. It still makes Paige giggle.]

You can't fool me, you little trickster. You're a very special wolf to be here and growing flowers like that. Do you have a name?

[She doesn't see a collar or any identifiers, and the answer may very well be "bark" again, but she's got to ask.]

[Suddenly, the moonlight is replaced by sunlight. It only lasts a moment, but she hopes that and the rumor mill will get the point across.]

Aw, thank you so much! Toki is a good name for you, too.

[She has to laugh at that, though. With all the page/Paige puns she's had to endure over the years, thinking it suits her is a little foreign. Still, she's glad he thinks so.]

I was actually hoping to harvest some to make some infused oils for my Auntie. Chamomile brings good luck and wealth. This plant is a bit young for harvesting, though.

I hope you're adjusting well. Being new here can be so rough for some people.

[But she beams at the compliment. Paige doesn't consider herself prideful, but who doesn't like to be told they did a good job?]

[ it's an immediate, practiced answer. a lot has happened in these past few weeks that she can't bring herself to discuss with a complete stranger. ]

Oh -- that sounds lovely, actually! If you wouldn't mind sharing your secret recipe...

[It's jarring, the cool touch of the moon flashing bright and warm for a moment. But she's heard the rumors, even from out in Soleil, and she remembers seeing the professor's name on the roster.]

So you're Amaterasu.

[It's unfortunate, but her knowledge of religions takes a pretty big dip in the east Asian zone. Not for any particular reason other than that she's had to study so much and Shinto just hasn't been important enough to prioritize yet. She supposed she'll have to speed that up now that she has a goddess for a professor.]

It's lovely to meet you, ma'am. [She dips her head in a respectful bow.] My name is Paige.

[The bow is returned, before she goes back to looking at the table.]

[The page/Paige puns may be lost on him. English is his third language, and he's only just learned it. He just thinks it sounds nice. Though he feels the same as she does about his own name; it's the word for a shade of pink, among other things.]

Infused oils? What do you do with those? Is it like tea!?

[Chamomile is tea, as far as he's concerned.]

[If Paige weren't so trusting, she might have questioned (even internally) Ana's answer. However, Paige is extremely trusting.]

Haha, it's not so much that it's a secret, just that my family tends not to get out often enough to share scones with people.

[She pulls a little notebook from the backpack by her side. Paige has to flip through several pages of indecipherable scripts before she reaches a blank one to write on. If all of that arcane gobbledygook makes sense to anyone but her is a mystery.]

Fresh fruit really works the best, but I've used preserves in a pinch before.

[ it certainly doesn't make any sense to ana. she tries not to glance at the pages too much though, out of respect for her privacy. ]

I see. I haven't baked anything in quite a while, but I figured it'd be good to give it a try again. I appreciate it.

[Hey, pink is the color of companionship, and if there's one vibe she's getting from Toki it's "friendly".]

Sort of! It's made in a similar way, but by steeping leaves in oil rather than water. Instead of drinking it, you anoint things with it to transfer the magical properties to something else.

[She doesn't carry around bottles of the stuff, but as she talks she mimics the actions of opening a bottle and makes a little half-circle with two fingers as if smearing on something.]

So if I put some on something like, say, a coin and did the proper incantations: someone could carry it around with them to draw good luck and wealth to their life.

Baking is such a lovely thing, isn't it?

[She sighs wistfully.]

You know, there are types of magic that frame baking as a ritualistic act. I always thought it would be cute to try. Baking wishes into birthday cakes, or rejuvenation spells into "get well" cookies.
