Case 2
Who: Sherlock, Anyone, especially those who expressed interest in tutoring
When: Late July
Where: Aube Dorm, A classroom, etc.
Warnings: None.
A. Tutorials
[Given the subject matter, one of the student labs is the most appropriate place. He never considered himself much of a teacher, didn't have much of an aptitude for it, he'd say, but he found that he's not completely abysmal when it's one on one. And teaching is a good way to hone in on one's skills.
For Puella especially, he's looking up safe experiments for someone of her age range. She seemed especially interested when he mentioned rockets, when someone comes in, he'll greet them]
Ah, here we go - now then... let's refresh things, what areas were you looking to focus on?
B. A little night music
[In Aube dorm, the vampire had the window and his door open to let in the cool evening breeze as well as indicating that he's open for anyone on his floor to stop by to visit, and it wasn't long before a some eerie song filters out from the room and out, before midway - anyone familiar with the Devil's trill would realize that the RA has started to deviate and then improvise, getting livelier then melancholic.
Whether one needs help, or want to ask him to stop playing, now's the time]
C. The Library
[While humming 'Un Poco Loco' thanks to a shared memory, the Englishman can be seen surrounded by several books on engineering and mechanics, most seeming to be just as reminders, as he's hunched over a sketch book, drawing some kind of elaborate diagram with a steady, careful hand - with precise measurements listed to the side. Whenever he notices someone trying to look at it, he hastily stops and tries to hide it.
Curious.]

A
Even if she has no idea who's going to be there and is only slightly shocked to find someone actually there at this time.]
... Oh, I hadn't... thought I'd actually find someone here. [And that damn accent is still fairly thick.]
Re: A
[He questions, making certain he got her name correct]
Come in, I'm setting up for some science tutoring.
no subject
That's right. [Quick and to the point, though she's moving to find a chair at least and fidget just a tiny bit. Sitting still is not really something she's too familiar with doing, as old habits die really hard.]
Science tutoring? [She... hadn't really thought much about science lately, but that'd make sense that it'd still be taught around here.]
no subject
Chemistry especially is my specialty... not much of a person to stay in place, are you?
no subject
A... force of habit, I guess? I never really had reason to stay still.
A
Chemistry! The lessons at my old school couldn't hold my focus at all...
no subject
[There's a slight frown to his lips at that, before standing straight up, satisfied by the set up]
How have your studies been?
no subject
His question causes her to momentarily pause, how had they been?]
Fine enough, I think? It's... a little difficult sometimes when having to convert everything between two entirely different languages, though. Especially just... reading when your brain wants to think in terms that aren't remotely English.
no subject
[A grin flits across his lips at that as he takes his gloves off to better pick up some paper, revealing long pale fingers, and his hands marred with chemical stains]
Let us see where we need to brush up on - so we're not wasting time on what you do know and letting you get bored out of your mind.
no subject
[He lets her drop the subject of not holding still, but he makes a mental note]
I will confess Arabic is not one of the languages I've picked up myself, but I have been studying different languages over the span of my life...
no subject
Honestly, I can't blame anyone for not having learned it. I don't... really see any reason to really learn it anymore unless you want to deal with that whole area more often. [She's taking a bit of a breath to calm some of her nerves down.] I'm sure it just... takes some more practice, right?
no subject
[He seems to be mulling over something]
Yes, practice - and perhaps something who can explain the oft unspoken rules of the language such as order of adjectives, or how many 'common sense' spelling rules are actually useless.
no subject
Just move onto the next part, of course.]
Maybe a way to not make my handwriting look absolutely horrible, too. [English writing is so clunky and awful, okay.] I tried looking at dictionaries and the...sauruses? But I'm not sure if that really helps.
no subject
I may not a wordsmith, but let's see how you write - perhaps I can see where to improve?
no subject
You'd think I'd know better than to trust everyone with this. [But she's at least going to try and write just... something. Which is mostly just a pretty simple sentence, grammatically nothing is wrong with it, but she was not kidding about her handwriting looking bad. But that's what you get when going from how Arabic script works to English's mess.]
no subject
Well, that sort of thing will fall under more the 'slang and vulgar' use of language.
[As he watches, he considers]
Your wrist is smudging the lower part of the letters, putting something small under your arm here -
[the man gestures]
will lift it, and help you hold your hand in better position to write.
no subject
Something small under my arm... [She considers it for a brief moment before she's shifting around to take the light jacket she'd been wearing for some unfathomable reason and shifting it to put it where indicated. It's... a lot better, she admits.]
Huh, I hadn't considered that.
b
So yes, he did come in entirely because he heard the music through the window and wanted to hear it better. He does so from a spot where he's easy to sense and spends a while simply sitting and listening. Enjoying both the music and the way his head feel a little lighter with his earbuds out. ]
no subject
[He nods, leaning over, adjusting her grip]
That should be easier - it's understandable, it's only recently that people born lefthanded are allowed to write with it - when I learning letters, lefthanded children were caned, or even had that hand strapped down.
Re: b
Good evening, Arany. I believe you wanted a look at my violin?
no subject
Would you believe me if I said I picked it up from watching rather than actually being taught? [There was no reason to teach a street rat way back when and there was certainly no reason to be doing so in Cairo in modern day, either.]
Less... of a necessity and more of a curiosity, I guess. [And it's a lot easier to learn things now than it was back then. Humans continue to baffle her even after having been around as long as she had been.]
That sounds absolutely barbaric, though. That couldn't have been recent, certainly?
A
Which ones would get me into space?
[...Or she could just jump right in.]
no subject
[He makes a small sound, as if saying 'not soon enough']
And there are still many places in the world where children are forced to write with their right hand.
no subject
[Always trying to get rid of something different to make everyone fit in, nothing ever really changes when she thinks about it.]
Maybe one day they'll learn that trying to make everyone the same is just going to put them in a rut more than anything else. [She's shifting a little to watch him properly again with a soft hum, sometimes her senses get a little too much for her and this is one of those times. But she's not going to say anything about it, not for now, since for whatever reason she assumes it's just rude to ask or point it out.
Says the person that still thinks people don't know she's a dragon.]
Re: A
[...Actually they should probably take this one outside once it's time for the actual science, it'll be messy]
Let's start with building a bottle rocket -
[He pulls up a bin of empty bottles with their lids, tape, glue, pencils, color paper and foil]
And once you're done we'll head outside and continue.
no subject
[He taps his chin]
Corporal Punishment refers to any sort of punishment that involves physical contact, such as caning, spanking. Those were the most common, other punishments involved humiliating the students, or isolating them, such as hoisting them up in a basket.
[As Kisara watches, it's subtle, but he doesn't seem to be breathing when he isn't talking, as she speaks, his expression grows thoughtful]
Yes, I agree - the desire for conformity is the worst of human vices....
no subject
So... violence and emotional damage, basically? [She's familiar. Not in that particular context, but it makes a lot more sense to her when put like that. Even if her attention is wavering a bit and she can't help a small frown. Even more so when he's using the term human.]
I take it you aren't human, then? Or, well, aren't now? That would explain that odd smell, I guess... [That was meant to said in her head, oops.]
no subject
[His lips twitched, recalling the basket punishment, before straightening up at the question]
That's right - I'm a vampire. And yes, I've made arrangements so I have no need to hurt people while I'm here... though hm, how sensitive is that nose of yours?
no subject
I assume about as much as any other kind of reptile? I can't say I know the exact sensitivity of a dragon's nose or something. [She really shouldn't have said anything is what she's coming to learn, even if she had been more curious than anything else.]
no subject
Ah, just wondering. Idle curiosity is a core part of my being.
no subject
There's... not much to really know about it, since as far as I'm aware myself and Hosni are the only ones of our clan left. [Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea, she's safe in this place, right?]
And I don't really know the extent of my abilities as a dragon or what carries over to this form.
no subject
[Puella looks over all the materials while clinging to the table. ...It's funny, after working awhile with some magical tools, she was feeling kind of nostalgic for just the mundane stuff. It takes her back. And by back we mean like barely a year ago.]
Yeah, let's get started! [She was excite. Taking one of the bottles now while figuring out how she wanted to design it.]
no subject
[ He doesn't much like being called by his last name. It's not that he dislikes the name- quite the opposite, he tends to think himself unworthy of it.
Issues. ]
But- yes, please! [He moves to the doorway and speaks quite a bit faster than usual- which is to say, basically at a reasonable speed. ] Research into them has indicated that they are not superior to modern violins, or any well-constructed violin for that matter, which is something I've always wanted to test myself, but it's still fascinating to take in the history- [ He's got a bit of a ramble going on here. Don't mind him. ]
no subject
I know - not everyone has the same desire to poke at things like I do.
no subject
While magical materials would do the job faster - I think it would make things harder to see.
[With that, he takes a bottle, tape, and paper, rolling the paper into a cone-shape]
Now the shape of the ship. Even an unadorned bottle will go up some distance, but with the right shape, you can increase the height by severalfold.
no subject
[Testing out her abilities might not be a terrible idea, if it's ends up being actually useful. And maybe figuring out some of these smells she can't quite pinpoint even now...]
I... don't see why not, perhaps it'll answer some questions I've had about them.
no subject
[But for now, she can also mostly just copy what Sherlock was doing.]
Could a ship fly farther with magic though?
