Who: Hieke & You!
When: August
Where: The infirmary, around campus.
What: Infirmary catch all and a fresh new look.
Warnings: There shouldn’t be any, but who knows.

the infirmary;
[Summer is starting to wrap up, but it’s still hot as hell out there. The frigid temperatures in the infirmary might be a blessing to some, but it might catch a few off guard.

The infirmary is much the same as it was last month, though there’s also been a definite change. With the arrival of Dr. Ziegler, Hieke’s allowed more time off, and he’s using that time to…

Spend most of it in the infirmary anyways. Listen, he’s trying. And he brings food with him! Visitors to the infirmary will notice an influx of plates covered in cookies, brownies, and various other pastries.

The more noticeable change, though, is Hieke’s appearance. As the month progresses, the more likely it is to find him having dropped his human appearance. If you didn’t somehow know the nurse was a daemon, you might be in for a rude awakening.]

the library;
[There’s a daemon in the library. Dark hair, red skin, the complete classic look. It’s entirely possible to not realize the daemon is Hieke - if you’re especially observant, you’ll notice the facial features are eerily similar to that of the school nurse, but if you’re not observant you’ll just notice that daemons are capable of developing freckles.

Anyways, the daemon seems to have quite the stack of books, ranging from all sorts of topics. There are scientific, medical textbooks that probably came from elsewhere, books about Outlands flora and fauna, and books about daemon summoning and contracting. It’s...A Lot.]

How did they even learn all of this stuff without dying…?

[What is he even reading…]

[The only time you’re likely to find Hieke looking like how most people probably picture him are on trips into Soleil. The town might be more aware of magic, but that doesn’t mean a daemon will be welcomed there. Hieke tries not to go there that often, but...sometimes needs must.

He can be found wandering the shops, frequently checking his phone as he browses through the various stores. He seems to be looking for something in particular, though, and isn’t having much luck.

[Evening is creeping up on the campus when Angela pushes open the infirmary door, busy looking at a tablet in one hand and holding a couple of books to her chest with the other arm. She can't say she's looking forward to seeing Hieke at the moment. It's been some time since they had their little...talk. Mostly, they've avoided prolonged contact and shared polite conversation. It's getting easier to forget what he is and see him for WHO he is.

Until she looks up to greet her coworker and is met with a daemon. It's the color that bothers her the most. Brings back the strongest memories of red skin and red blood and-

It takes a hot second to steady herself and speak, but Angela does manage to keep the immediate fear out of her voice when she greets him with a nod. That said, she's not passing all the way through the door quite yet.]

Hieke.

Brushing up on your medical studies before your next test? [ He's partially joking. He likes to at least try to pass on his medical knowledge to Hieke, as time permits. It's sort of unofficial tutoring.

He doesn't sit; he just stands, leaning slightly on the table. Even his posture in what could debatably be called 'somewhat relaxed' is still fairly stiff. ]

What's caught your eye, if I might ask?

[It takes him a second, but the way he dresses and the facial features, he knew intellectually Hieke wasn't human, but this was kind of surprising to actually see]

Are you looking for something?

[He looks up from his desk at the sound of his name, before nodding in greeting. He...can tell, already, that he's put her on edge.

But he won't address it.]

Dr. Ziegler.

[He looks down at his paperwork, before glancing back up at her.]

Good evening.

A little bit. [He's brushing up on a lot of things.

He props his hand on his chin, raising an eyebrow at Ekkehardt. He always seems so stiff, but he wonders, now, if there's something more going on.]

I was reading a book where the author claims to have chronicled daemons physiology - which is a tall task, considering how many different types of daemons there are.

Ah, Ky.

[He glances over at him, before turning back to the shelves.]

Yes, I'm looking for something for Stool and Rumpadump, but I'm not quite sure what they mean...

[He doesn't even know if Ky knows who or what Stool and Rumpadump are.]

[Angela has always thought she was past this constant, crippling fear. She berates herself internally for letting her past weigh on her so heavily.]

Good evening. I see you've dropped your glamours.

[She forces herself to look at him directly. At the freckles spattered across his face, at his horns and the damage done to them. It doesn't take a genius to see there's a lot of things unsaid in his eyes and in the faint frown on his lips. And it takes conscious effort not to look away as she internalizes this face and this form. It is not the same face or form that plagues her memories, she reminds herself. It is Hieke's face.]

Any particular reason?

[He props his hand up on his chin, shrugging. He's attempting to be casual, but whether or not he succeeds is another thing entirely.

The truth is, there's a lot of reasons to drop his glamour. The constant drain keeping an unnatural form, the frustration with being seen as human, the disgust of hiding who he was. All of that lead up to the decision to...test the waters, so to speak.

But, of course, he says none of that.]

Just wanted to take a break from it all, change things up a bit.

Your... mushrooms?

[He is guessing from the names]

And what do they mean, exactly?

Perhaps they obtained cooperation through unorthodox methods? Or more normal things, like bargains, or bribery. [ Daemons take bribes, right.... He's never met a sentient creature thus far that couldn't be bribed or gotten around in some way, given leverage and time. ]

Or...perhaps this author did some hands-on research. It could be any number of things, really.

Is it really so surprising? The Outlands and their inhabitants have been an attractive field of study for many.

Yeah. They said they wanted something to feel more normal, but I don't know if that means something human or something from back home...

I guess bribery would work. Or making it part of a deal.

[Hmm. He turns back to the book, shrugging.]

It seems weird to be so concerned with somewhere most people will never go or even know exist.

[He scratches his cheek]

Well, normal wouldn't be 'human' for them. I think something that's close to home might be the safer bet.

[Puella was already a common visitor to the infirmary now ever since Ekkehardt became a playground, though others might need to suffer her wrath every so often too. The cookies sure helped some to ward her off, but only for so long. And once Hieke started transforming back, all bets were off. She could tell right away that daemon was him from the memory, but now she could actually see it in person.]

[Which this called for only the most dignified thing she could do: tail grabbing. She's not exactly sure if she's even going to get away with it. And if not, it might be an amusing sight watching her chase it around.]

[The tail flicks, evading her grasp. It seems to have a mind of its own, and it doesn’t stay still for very long.

It’s a good thing she’s focused on his tail, because there’s a shit-eating grin on his face as he teases Puella with his tail.]

[What no--she'll get it!! Eventually!!!]

[Probably.]

[Maybe.]

[She's still trying anyway.]

["Change things up a bit"...? By risking reputation and safety? Essentially just for fun? Do you take her for a fool, Hieke? At least he does come off as casual enough for her to make an observation.]

You seem...more comfortable in this state. It is good to see you less tense.

[Her neutrality is as much a defense mechanism as a personality trait. It's a vital part of her plan to squash the doubts and concerns that leap to mind.]

Well, humans are like that - all curiosity. And the less people know about it, the more valuable the information is.

I suppose it must look odd from a daemon's view, though. [ He sounds faintly amused. ] The Outlands is normal to you, I imagine, so people coming to poke through it is surprising, perhaps?

Mmm... I suppose. I'm not really sure where this is coming from, to be honest.

[He picks up a small planter, turning it over in his hands with a look of consideration.]

[She'll do her best, but the tail is incredibly evasive.

At least until one moment, where it goes still, and then...

The tip taps her on the forehead.]

[His reputation can't get any worse. Anyone who will hate him for being a daemon will hate him regardless of what he looks like.]

Well, it's what feels more natural.

[He shrugs, flippant, before running a hand through his hair.]

And I'm not usually that tense...

I guess you could say that.

[He tilts his head.] It's definitely strange, seeing your home treated like it's some sort of...Zoo, or something. Like, none of these people sound like they think of people from the Outlands as people.

[It's hard to tell whether Puella felt blessed or betrayed since the expression was about the same...]

[But since the tail had just striked, she could potentially catch it now on the rebound.] --Got ya!

Ah. [He twists, so he can look back at you. He's doing his best to keep his face neutral.] You've got me.

[And she still has it, victoriously.]

I dooo~

[Considering Hieke put up a fight, who's to say how soon she's going to let go?]
