What: After leaving the school for a little while, Grimm returns with a small child in tow. Cue antics.

Where: Network, then the Grand Hall.

Oct 9th, late at night - UN: CONCERTO

Good evening Daybreak. An odd question, but for those of you who make use of it, how do you find the daycare options in the school?

[Does he leave it at that without explaining why he's asking? Absolutely.]


Oct 10th, morning - Grand Hall

[And now at a more appropriate time for antics, the Grand Hall is suddenly infested by bats. They are not harmful and don't really seem to be bothering people (unless you just don't like bats).

No, it seems they're leading a small child on a merry chase around the Hall, although it's questionable if the bats are chasing the child or vise versa. They're making it up as they go along.

Unfortunately for anyone around, the child doesn't much care for what they run into - be it man, Outland, furniture, roomba or a wall. They will get those bats if it's the last thing they do! So they'll probably run smack into something sooner rather then later.

(For those who know Grimm, the aesthetics of the child's clothing may be...familiar.)

The bats, meanwhile, seem to just be enjoying themselves. But if the child does run into anything they'll flutter down to see what's happening quite quickly.]

[ The child racing around the hall, pursued by bats, gets something like an eyebrow raise. The child's clothing is familiar, true, but if Grimm does have a child now, he wouldn't expect him to leave them alone without supervision.

He carefully steps in the way, sort of vaguely catching this small gothic baby and lifting them so they can try to grab bats more easily. He's Helping. ]

[The child giggles when they're picked up, patting at the hands holding them before turning their attention back to the bats.

Said bats flutter around the pair as the Grimmchild attempts to catch them. The one with red eyes seem to catch their attention in particular and, with enough effort of both the child and Ekkehardt's part, they'll touch it eventually.

And the whole swarm fly to one spot, twisting and turning to appear as Grimm once again. He grins as he walks over, lifting a hand to press against the child's cheek.]

We certainly are. They quite like this place. So many wide, open areas to explore and get up to a delightful amount of mischief.

[Mischief Grimm actively encourages because he knew the child came from a cramped, dark place. They needed to explore, learn and grow.]

October 10th

[V can't help but watch with an amused smile as the child runs around the Grand Hall.

... When the child runs into Shadow while chasing the bats around, however, V makes his way over to them and the familiar, extending his hand to try to help the child up. Shadow lets out an amused rumble at the antics.]

Careful now, little one.

[Despite running into a large panther the child seems fairly unconcerned with any prospect of danger. They do take the offered hand with a giggle, apparently amused by pretty much everything.

There isn't any damage done though - the Grimmchild is durable but even then despite the fancy clothes, they're wrapped in enough to be a good barrier against injury.

Meanwhile one of the bats, the one with red eyes, has fluttered closer to keep an eye on the proceedings. Although the Grimmchild will take the chance to try and catch it again.]

Lacking, if that time all of us spawned children selves is anything to go off. There were no official facilities that helped anyone through that, but off-campus in Soleil, there may be more options.

I am willing to give the school the benefit of the doubt in that situation, given the sudden nature of it.

But I will also explore options in Soleil as well. Thank you.

That's very fair. I don't think I have heard of a single child-self actually finding housing or care on-campus though, so I concluded it wasn't a case of existing facilities being overloaded.

Are you planning on housing a child long-term?

[V smiles fondly as the Grimmchild tries to catch the red-eyed bat. Shadow rises to his feet and starts padding along next to them.

V was going to return to his book, but... honestly, this is too cute to not watch.]

Yes. For as long as I am able.

[Which should be for a very long time. But he wanted to ensure the child was cared for when he could not. Locking them up in a room while Grimm set about his tasks was not something he would do.]

[The Grimmchild eventually lets go of the bat and it takes to the air again. Somehow its eyes crinkle in amusement before becoming lost among the swarm again.

And off the child goes chasing after them. But they'll also try to encourage Shadow to try at catching the bats too.

It's fun! Come on, give it a try.]

Whups.

[Kohaku picked the child up in a quick motion before they ran past a "caution: floor slippery" and into a big grease spill in the cafeteria.]

Watch it, kid. Don't go cracking your skull.

[Despite the danger they were in, the child just giggles when Kohaku picks them up. They pat her hands and generally seem to be enjoying life in the way a small child would.

Meanwhile one of the bats, one with red eyes, flutters down to check on what's going on. The Grimmchild reaches out for it to try and grab said bat out of the air.]

Papa! Papa!

[So does that mean...?]

[Her eyes flickered up to the bats as she put the kid back down, making sure they were facing away from the wet floor sign.]

There you go. Go chase your, uh...bat-dad? In peace.

Mischief, hm? Well, I'm sure you'll find no shortage of that. Or encouragement to do so. [ Some of the faculty are worse than the students there... ]

If you ever need a break, you can always leave them with me. But somehow I doubt you're the type to need a break from your child.

[ He's not going to ask, whatever the circumstances are. Vampires having children isn't unheard of, after all.

But he remembers that dream. All those graves. It's impossible to not at least guess at what this means. ]

[The red-eyed bat's eyes somehow seem to crinkle in amusement before it takes off again to be lost in the swarm.

Back on the ground, the Grimmchild laughs loudly at the bats but tugs at Kohaku's sleeve. Come on, it's fun to chase them! They think she'll like it.]

[Ekkehardt's guess would be correct. The appearance of the Grimmchild was unusual but it mean Grimm's time was almost at an end. Sooner or later, he would join those graves.

But that does not matter to him. They are someone he loves, someone who should be raised with celebration and not resentment.]

I do not, no. But it is good for them to meet people, to grow and share that zest of life with others. Besides I think they like you.

[Or at least they like all of the different textures Ekkehardt offers. His uniform, the feeling of his hands. The Grimmchild will inevitably try and touch his veil but they will be gentle if allowed.

It's all so cool. So wonderful. Grimm's smile is wide and happy.]

Well. In theory there is no better fortified place than this.

[ In practice, disaster seems to strike every two seconds and it sort of feels like they have a target on their backs....... ]

Shadow thinks for a moment before transforming his tail into a more delicate grasping appendage of sorts in order to try catching some of the bats--it'd be a little easier on them, at the very least.]

[Grimm cannot argue James's point. Daybreak offered protection against both the supernatural and the mundane.

But he has also not forgotten the Hunt. For all intents and purposes, the child was a being that could be affected, but at this stage they could not defend themself. Not yet.]

Indeed, that is quite true. Perhaps for now I will stay with the school itself for now while keeping the future in mind.

Wha-oh okay I guess we're doing this now.

[Kohaku let herself be tugged to her feet. She didn't chase the bats, though. Not when one of them is clearly a vampire or something. Probably Grimm, based on literally everything about this situation.

No, she'd been watching the bats not just fly around but actually tease the child, flying JUST into and out of their reach. So that meant this was a game with a person, not a bunch of wild animals.

Kohaku walked after the child, waiting for them to come to her.]

Listen kid. If you wanna catch something, chasing it is the last resort. The SMART hunter gets their prey to come to them on their own...

[Well now. How curious.

Shadow is not a creature Grimm has seen before and his ability to transform his tail is an interesting one. But this is a game of tag and Grimm is going to win it, even if it's two against one. That makes it more fun.

The bats duck and weave around Shadow and the Grimmchild, trying to make the pair actually work to catch all of them. In particular the red-eyed one seems fond of waiting to the last second before darting out of the way.

Regardless the Grimmchild is enjoying themself immensely.]

[Kohaku is right on the money. Certain vampire clans would frown over such a use of his powers...but Grimm doesn't care. His child is happy and that is that.

The Grimmchild is so busy trying to catch the bats that they almost miss her suggestion. Maybe it is because they are young that they don't really understand her suggestion of waiting for the bats to come to them rather then the other way around. It's not hunting but tag...

Still, their papa had said to try everything once. So they stop and wait Kohaku to explain the rules of waiting for prey to come to them.

Meanwhile, while the swarm is still moving around, the red-eyed bat has taken perch somewhere out of reach to watch the pair. What are you up to...?]

[Once she was sure she had the kid's attention she squatted down next to them.]

It's a game, right? If they were actually hiding they'd just fly up until you couldn't reach them. So they're not just going to leave you alone.

So if you just wait...

[Admittedly, Kohaku had an unfair advantage here. She concentrated and time seemed to slow down, so the bats were whizzing by her head in slow motion.

One of them buzzed by her face, confident that it was faster than a human. And it was, but...Kohaku's timing was flawless. Her hand shot out RIGHT as the bat was braking, so she was able to gently catch the little flying mouse between her thumb and forefinger.]

They'll come to you!

[Well, he cannot say he expected that.

The bat squeaks when it's caught and the red-eyed one twitches a little bit. The swarm itself is Grimm in his entirety so it feels weird when someone grabs him.

But that was the point of this game so he's not going to complain. Meanwhile the Grimmchild claps in delight when their father (or part of him) is caught and then goes about trying it for themself.

Sadly they don't have the power to slow down time. But they're trying their best.]

Hard...but fun!

Kohaku held the bat so the tyke could see it up close before letting go and watching it fly off.]

It takes a while to get the hang of it, yeah.
