Picking up the Pieces

What: Investigating creatures appearing at the site of the first Herald fight
Where: Australia
When: November 15th
Warnings: Body Horror, probably.

[Taking a flight from Daybreak, Amaterasu and her team are allowed by the officials to enter the area that Xelvak appeared. The moment they step inside the area of darkness, Amaterasu stumbles.]

This aura... No doubt about it, this darkness is caused by the remnants of Xelvak's evil power. I won't be able to dissipate this on my own...

[She shakes her head, putting her usual happy-go-lucky smile on, though it's noticeably strained.]

Alright team, we're looking for the creatures that have been appearing here lately. They've been destroying the equipment monitoring the site, and higher ups want to know why. Our goal is not destruction. but containment. We are to capture one, and find out anything we can about it. Any questions?

[Gil didn't really have any superpowers, per se. Not any that would help him directly fight a monster from another dimension, at least. So he had come prepared. Behind him was a truck, which had a big cage with glowing walls in the back. It also had something sort of like a big tesla coil mounted on it. Easily seven feet tall. Gil himself was carrying a sort of metal staff, covered in coils of wire and lights. He figured if he was going to ACTUALLY be going into dangerous situations like this, he would need a good death ray. And this one should work. In theory. He hadn't had a chance to test it, since he'd finished building it on the plane.]

I'm pretty sure my containment unit will hold it, once we've got it.

Alright then, so all that leaves is catching one in the first place. Well, that and finding one of course. Everyone ready?

[ Miach is here largely out of curiosity for the radiation site. She doesn't really care one way or another how the mission will go, but she's not opposed to helping as long as she gets to see new sights over the course of it.

She's geared up with basic protection gear provided by the Academy and not enhanced otherwise. The sight of the former battlefield does not seem to phase her. ]

We should place bait. A camera might be too obvious, but we could make use of one of the bodies. They seem to be nibbling on them, too.

[Nana's walking up, and... wearing the outfit for fighting: a white coat, red sash, and paired swords. It makes her height stand out all the more; the clothes make the girl, too, because that tell-tale serious expression is there. Her eyes shift to Gilgamesh, then she nods.

She glances at Miach, then.] I can grab a body, and move it, to lure it after me.

I'm ready, Miss Amaterasu.

Well, they probably don't solely eat humans, so this should work just as well.

[Ammy reaches into her robes and pulls out... a feedbag of meat. Notably fresh meat. What.]

I'd rather avoid dragging corpses around if I can.

[Ammy got a sidelong look because where did all that meat come from? Just saying "she's a god" wasn't good enough. Gil wanted a PROPER answer, but also felt that now wasn't the time to ask.]

So we'll just leave a pile of, er, meat somewhere, wait for one of them to show up, and then jump it, essentially?

It should be where there's likely to be one, but basically.

Then we should head deeper into the battlefield, shouldn't we?

[ Fresh meat... who the hell carries fresh meat around with them like that? But it's not like they can complain about the mission leader being prepared. Miach shrugs it off and begins marching forward, examining the ruined landscape around them curiously.

Whether or not the others will follow seems to be a secondary concern to her. ]

[Amaterasu jumps after Miach, shimmering and changing into a wolf during the motion. She heads forward, sack of meat held in her mouth.]

[Gil set his lightning staff to the LOWEST setting, which he figured was the least likely to explode, and set out after the rest of the group, speeding up until he was in the front. He didn't like the feeling of hiding behind people, even if it was probably smart.]

Fair warning, if we get more than a couple hundred feet from the capacitor- [The tesla coil looking thing in the truck, apparently.] -I don't know if this thing will work.

Only a couple hundred?

[ Miach sounds sincerely disappointed. Her desire to explore this nuclear wasteland is strong. ]

sorry, Thanksgiving got way busier than desired

[Nana does a quick jog, to catch up with Miach. She glances at Gil, though, and nods at him.]

Where should we put the... ah... bait?

It's a work in progress! I'll figure the range problem out eventually. If necessary, I can just get in the truck and drive it after you guys.

Wonder if that'd disturb them or make them curious...

[ If the latter, that could be a dangerous yet interesting time.

Turning to Nana, she adds: ]

Since they're scavengers who eat everything around here, I think it shouldn't matter much?
