A. Waitress
Maya's taken a few extra shifts at Hog's Swill, waiting tables and delivering drinks. Taking a bit extra pleasure sneaking up on tables as she starts putting their drinks down without much comment.
If you terrify the patrons they don't hit on you.
She's also occasionally taking a turn behind the bar, learning to mix drinks. Because knowing about drink mixing might be good if she has to play any dive bars. Thus far she hasn't gotten a chance to play music here.
Yet.
B. Shooting Range
Maya's ability to handle a basic training firearm has improved to the point she's considering live fire weapon training. She hasn't done it yet, but she's considering it.
She's in the shooting range four times a week now, with fairly solid groupings compared to earlier.
C. Designing Guns for Dummies
Maya's been sitting in the Banquet Hall fairly often with one of her notebooks, and a page open.
It is not music or lyrics, which would be the normal thing for her to have open.
It is a list of features, for a weapon. She knows a guy who could make her a gun if she asked him. And the staff let him. Really what was he thinking handing out rocket launchers!? Still, fighting the end of the world would eventually need a gun, if she's comfortable shooting at living things. Which- she thinks she is but she hasn't tested this yet.
Her list, so far:- Lightweight
- Magic bullets, not a magic gun
- Limit muzzle flash
- Some sort of stun/non-lethal bullets too??
- Not a sniper rifle, can't hear at this distance.
- Not an automatic weapon, too jarring.
Offer her some advice, before she takes this idea to Rex and gives him any other ideas.
D. Stealth Suit Up
Maya's wandering around campus in her stealth suit, the stealth on. She's somewhat clumsy so she might make herself apparent if you let her near a table or anything. Or if you can use a sense other than hearing to tell someone is around.
Call out this child as she is bad at spying.
Or maybe Maya is just there, in the background, watching as something happens. She won't make herself apparent if it'd be super awkward to just reveal she's there. She is avoiding the places were spying would be wrong so it's just hallways and classrooms.
So she can always see something she shouldn't see.

Maya will, without fail avoid the most magically loud sections of campus. The underground hydroponic garden, the forge, wherever people are causing massive explosions.

He'd barely seen the telltale shimmer of her stealth mode, but it was enough. He made a mental note of her distance and predicted her motions but didn't break stride. Just put a hand in his pocket (since the pocket was technically another dimension, he figured it would at least muffle him casting a spell) and teleported back the way he came, right behind Maya. Not flash, no portal. Just there one second and not the next. Or in front? He's 75% sure he's behind her.
"Hey," he says, nice and casual.

So, for once, Maya jumped a little. Before Rex said anything. His sound was behind her now. Which itself was a little jarring. She assumed her heart was racing, she couldn't tell without feeling her pulse. "Okay, how'd you do that? I barely heard you."
She turned off the stealth since, well, he'd found her, it also meant taking off at least the collar, down to let her breathe a little easier. "Anyway, you spotting me doesn't count. You know what this suit looks like better than I do."

"The last battle I participated in featured numerous electrical attacks. I decided to devise a means to evade something that could hypothetically travel at 220,000,000 miles per hour- instantaneous teleportation seemed logical." Not that most of Asimov's lightning bolts appeared to actually travel as fast as actual lightning. People kept dodging it, at least. That question answered, the only response she gets to her deciding his minor victory in a game with no rules doesn't count is the continuation of the mild smirk. Sure, Maya. Doesn't count. Tell yourself that.
With the hand not carrying a bag (she'll hear it's yet another of the bottomless variety) he points down the corridor and then to the opposite side with a quizzical manner- asking if she's going anywhere or has the time to wander the way he's going.
no subject
"That's not what I meant, I should have heard you cast the spell." There wasn't enough going on he could just cast out in the open and she wouldn't hear it. Especially not a spell like that. He also wasn't gone long enough that he cut a hole to the outrealms or anything. And Maya didn't like not knowing things, it was a pain with her powers she should really do something about.
Maya reached under her cloak and pulled out a folded up jacket she had stored under there, throwing it on as she fell into step with Rex. Letting him lead. While invisible, the suit didn't draw a lot of attention. But it was a skin tight catsuit, it definitely drew attention when people could see her. With a jacket on, and the mask off, she'd just look like she was wearing grey leggings.

He repeats the same hand motions he'd made before, this time in what humans feebly call reality. The sound is something like the classic noise of sticking your finger in the corner of your mouth and pulling wetly- Pop! and Rex jumps ahead a few feet. He lets her catch up, taking a moment to look her over with the jacket.
"That actually looks pretty good." He says it with a nod. Good job. And as an after thought- "I'm updating my combat suit tech, so if you have any notes on suggestions or improvements, let me know."
no subject
"Um, nothing really, I'll need a holster when I figure out what sorta gun I want." She figures if she draws her weapon that'll be its own issue. But being mostly invisible except for her gun should be okay. However, since Rex seemed to enjoy messing with her, "Oh, and maybe enough space I can wear a real sports bra under this?"

"If you can get a hold of rubber bullets and have someone enchant them with an electric discharge, you basically get taser bullets, pretty sure. And the bullet itself shouldn't bleed off any charge from the target since rubber doesn't conduct."
no subject
"Oh, yeah. Is lightning easy to trap inside of things? I don't think rubber bullets would be hard to get." Not if she just- asked Rex. Or neglected to ask where it came from. In any event, she added it to the list without a bit of hesitation. And doesn't seem too bothered that someone is looking at what she's making as a sidearm. "Any other suggestions?"
no subject
As for John, he covers his red eye with one hand for a second while she breathes. He's never sure anymore if he just startled someone or if something slipped out.
"It'd probably be harder to trap inside rubber because of how rubber blocks electricity. I was more thinking a spell for generating the electricity on impact."
John leans against the table a little, making a thoughtful sound. Sorry, if anyone wanted less crazy ideas, they might be in the wrong place.
"Dart guns are their own separate thing, I think, but hollow points might work as a delivery mechanism for potions? Probably need some testing on the minimum effective dosage, potions don't act the same as regular chemicals but I've never tried to see how little I could use to get an effect. But if it works, that'd open up a lot of possibilities for effect bullets."
no subject
Maya's concerns were just 'how many guns was she comfortable learning, and how much anxiety would it cause her if she made it more complicated so she could more easily screw it up and get people killed. "I'll avoid dart guns, they load and fire differently. I'd rather keep it simple for now. Plus part of the advantage of being me is loud guns, I don't think dart guns are loud."
Maya drummed her fingers on the desk trying to think new answers. Her fingers made no noise. As was her general being. "Could the potions be molded into the bullets? Like, when they're being poured? Or is that just enchanting the bullets if the potion isn't liquid anymore?"
no subject
John noticed the lack of sound from her drumming and kind of just set it aside as 'interesting, not relevant to this'. The question was a Lot more interesting and it showed in his curious, intrigued expression.
"I have no fucking clue. I'd say it at least would have to be an 'on contact' potion and nothing that needs to get into the bloodstream. It might be easier than enchanting the bullets if it works, though. If you know somebody that can try alloying potions into metal, I could get you some potions to try it with."

When did her life get this weird?
"I'm just figuring out what I want, I'll let someone who can go into the workshops work on making it work. Some days my flame sucks." She scribbles these new ideas into the margins. She'll make it neater later. Or she'll just give Rex this page and let him figure it out. "At least, it sucks trying to work out how to make weapons when you definitely can't make weapons."
Freed from the plague at last
He tilts his head in question when she mentions that she can't go into the workshops or make weapons.
"Something about your power keeping you away from that?"
