Heaven or Hell, Let's Rock the Mythril Cage!

Who: Ky, any faculty and students
Where: Classroom, Mythril Cage, etc
What: It's class time.
Date: Early February

The Questions prompt

[Whether he's clad in armor standing in the cage, or leaning against the desk in his language classes, he knew with new students and rumors, he'll have to knock a few things out of the way - and to keep the older ones from messing with the newbies.]

You might have heard, but yes - I was a member of the true Knights Templar, and yes the order was destroyed in the early 14th century - and I was born in 1276. It's a long story, but I've been in... what I believe is called 'suspended animation' until recently. I know that I am not going to get you to focus until your curiosity is satiated, so ask away.

Elemental Battle

[They were warned to dress appropriately for the weather, by the time the students arrive in the Mythril Cage, they will be greeted by a man dressed in full armor, who raised his sword to the heavens, before he suddenly unreleased a bolt of lightning from the tip of his blade and right up into the clouds to immediately get their attention. Soon he unhelms himself, shaking off his now shoulder blade-length hair]

Now that I got your attention. Welcome to the Combat Elemental Magic class new and returning students. I am Ky Alard de Kiske, and I will be be your instructor. I am a specialist in lightning magic, so if you need help with that particular area, I can offer extra lessons.

On that note - it doesn't matter if you obtain your abilities from the flames of a candle, a higher - or lower being, from a mage's lineage, or enchanted gear, the elements themselves have consistent properties, and their effectiveness will always be influenced by the environment you find yourselves in. Knowing how best to apply the properties of your particular element, and how to encounter an enemy's is the difference between living and dying.

Before I let you practice - here is a small quiz, for everyone, so my veteran students didn't forget anything during break and the new ones to be on the same page:

How many elements of magic can you named? And true or false: does water magic always defeat fire magic? This is not for a grade, but to assess your knowledge.

Fight-! Kinda?

[Once the quizzing and basic lecture on safety was finished, several enchanted dummies, wreathed in elemental magic: fire, ice, lightning, darkness, wind, etc. And the students are allowed to fling their magic at the dummies, with Ky assessing their technique and stepping in if some gets too wild or to offer suggestions.]

Office is open

[When he isn't busy, his office is open to visitors, it's relatively simple, the only things that would mark it as any different from a typical teacher's office is the suit of armor and weapons press up against the far wall, a huge stack of french encyclopedias on the side of his desk, and a china hutch full of tea cups in a wide variety of shapes and patterns.

Whether it's a student taking up his offer for magic lessons, faculty looking to coordinate, or someone just wanting to chat - he will accept all visitors with a smile]

Wild Card?

Questions - in class

What kind of suspended animation!? Were you in ice!? Or some kind of almost liquid goo- or like, more of a gelatin!? Oh! Did your brain get transferred to a memory chip of some kind and then got implanted in another body and that's not your original body at all or did your brain just get preserved itself without the data collection and it's like a brain transplant!? If it was just your consciousness preserved, are you a robot!?

Office Hours

[Gunvolt had attended Ky's class that day; and for all intents and purposes, he was a pretty ideal student. He paid very close attention to his lecture and to the rules and safety regulations in the Mythril Cage. For a younger teenager, GV proved to be quite serious about the subject matter. But of course, once the exercise got started, Ky would probably be quick to see something about the boy.

He was definitely a Candle, and his powers manifested as bright blue lightning, both in a field around him and arcing out. But like many young Candles, his power was... raw, unfocused. Not necessarily too wild, but it was clear the boy was having trouble truly harnessing control of what looked like potentially exceptional ability. His attacks were inaccurate without using his Dart Leader to guide them, despite clear effort on his part, and while GV kept composure about his performance? It wasn't anywhere near what he wanted.

So when Ky's office hours rolled around, a knock came to his door, even if it was open. Mostly just to announce his presence before coming in. Buried beneath his calm and otherwise serious demeanor, though, were at least a little bit of nerves. Sure, he was here to learn, but he couldn't shake at least a little bit of uncertainty about what was about to happen, even if he knew it was silly to be worried.]

Professor Kiske? Can I speak with you, sir?
shockingblue: (Straight On)

[personal profile] shockingblue 2019-02-01 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... yeah, sure. That'd be nice.

[He drew closer to Ky's desk; the hint of uneasiness within him was still there, and he hoped it didn't show. Nevertheless, he was here for it, and now he was committed.]

I wanted to talk to you... about getting some additional tutoring. You said you were a master of lightning magic, and... well... I could use the help.

[Hibernation wasn't nearly as interesting as the alternatives.]

But if you're human, how could you hibernate for like a thousand years and not die of starvation!? Why would someone use a sleeping spell; what good does it do them for you to wake up so many years later when they're probably dead!?

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-02-01 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh. He knew that story at least.]

What reasons? Weren't you scared of never waking up!? Or that the future would so horrible beyond imagination that you would be better off dead!?

Elemental Battle

[This takes Ren a moment of pondering]

The elements, huh? I think I've seen Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Curse, Bless, Nuclear and Psi the most.

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-02-01 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you needed!? For Nightfall!? What kind of mission requires you to sleep for like a thousand years!? Was it a cyclical monster thing that comes out to feed every whatever number of years and then kills again and now it's time!?

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-02-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Nightfall is the reason. That was not at all reassuring, and there were Nightfall possibilities far more frightening than a cyclical monster of some sort.]

I knew it! It's not at ALL likely to be overcome if you WOKE UP AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS JUST TO BE HERE FOR IT!!!

[He's gotten up from his desk at this point and is starting to hyperventilate. He's never going to any class again ever. They're all about preparing for the very slim possibility students may live through a horrible monster war.]

[personal profile] prisoneroffate 2019-02-02 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, Nuclear and Psi.

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-02-02 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
What!?

[It takes him a second to register the words, because it was a deviation from the Nightfall discussion. He attempts to do as directed, but it's not helping much. The realization this is happening in the middle of a class is increasing his panic... and he's now imagining the other students being attacked on campus by Outlands monsters and lycanthropes and vampires and daemons and they're all dying and being eaten and shredded and ripped apart and there's blood everywhere... The edges of his vision darken and he leans against his desk for a moment before losing consciousness entirely.]

[ For once, Ekkehardt isn't here just to run errands, as he normally does. He's grown attached to Ky, in his own way, and so sometimes he visits with no particular reason in mind. ]

You know, [ he says casually, his hand not-quite-touching the hilt of one of the swords mounted on the wall ] I always wondered if you knew how to use all of these. You have quite the collection.

[ He's curious. How many weapons can one person master, at least enough for competency? ]

[ He was almost on the verge of thinking it was a fairly slow day for the infirmary, and then his phone buzzes and proves him entirely wrong. ]

Which student.
And why

[ It's not strictly necessary information, but it helps if he knows what the general shape of the problem is going to be. ]

Rikugou?
Yes that seems to be his reaction to stress
I'll be right there

[ And true to his word, he shows up promptly. He checks Toki's pulse again just to see if there's anything erratic, then checks for injuries. ]

Well, he hasn't hurt himself in passing out, at least. Would you like me to take him to the infirmary?
