[January had, mercifully, been an easier month for Gunvolt, short of helping with the whole Fear the Great thing. ...And the whole thing with Vivi nearly dying, but it all eventually working out. Okay, so maybe it wasn't a totally easy month but at this point, if there was a moment on the horizon where things weren't looking almost apocalyptic or potentially dangerous for anyone immediately around him, then that was a moment he could be relaxed, relatively speaking. Especially now, knowing one of his best friends wasn't going to die by expiration date.
Once that was cleared up, it was a lot easier to settle back into what could pass for a routine. He kept up his training, but looked to other pursuits.... and perhaps somewhat oddly for him, he seemed to be in brighter spirits despite the darker, colder days of the waning days of January, the dead of winter.]
[A]
[With most of the post-submission reworks on his prototype railgun now done, it was time for Gunvolt to work on a new runic project. But he decided this time it wasn't going to be for a weapon. Or armor. Or anything with combat application. No, this time he was working on something a little more personal, for someone very important to him. And it was also something secretive. He kept most of his notes and progress securely locked away, and anyone in the workshop with keen eyes would notice he never seemed to work on it if Monarch was with him.
If you happen to be an expert in runic inscription or in advanced technology, you might have Gunvolt coming to you in the lab.]
Hey, do you mind if I pick your brain for a little bit? How much do you know about magical or holographic projection? Or advanced illusions? Or application of magical telekinesis?
[...Those certainly are unusually specific questions. Alternatively, he'll be posting somewhere private on the school network, away from prying eyes of a curious AI core.]
So, do we have anyone here on campus that has experience with hard light? Or... maybe advanced robotics? I think we had an android student here at one point, right?
[B]
[An odd occurrence happens in the quad rather spontaneously one day in January, on a gray day while snow lightly fell. Atop one of the switched off fountains, a bright looking girl belted out cheerful winter songs while decked out in heavy winter clothing, with big orange and black butterfly wings behind her. Something of an impromptu concert led by Monarch, meant to brighten and liven the days of the students during a dreary and cold day. Of course, that meant if Monarch was there, Gunvolt or Desidera probably wasn't far away either... so no funny business would be tolerated from the gathered pool of fans.
That said, once she ended her impromptu performance and the crowd mostly dispersed, if you happened by whether having been watching or not, her hologram would float over to you, wings carefully flapping to make it look like she hovered, to speak with you. She wore a bright smile, but one that wasn't performative.]
Ah, hello! Did you enjoy the show, even if there wasn't any new material? There's more of that coming though, I promise! ...Once I'm able to do a comeback show, of course!
[She looks very hopeful for this... though there's doubtlessly more than few hurdles in the way for that. But if you wanted to ever talk to Monarch one on one, this seems like a good chance to do just that. Though don't get any ideas of trying to do something to the AI core.]
[C]
[When not busy working or relaxing, Gunvolt can be found in the common room of Aube, working on homework and studying (despite all the hard work he puts in, there's still the fact he has to go to classes, after all!). He might be in there with you comparing notes for class, practicing conversational Italian, or whatever else. Otherwise, he'll break for the kitchen, cooking a simple meal of instant noodles and a sandwich for lunch. Something of an indulgence, considering Gunvolt normally preferred to eat healthier options at the cafeteria to keep in shape.
Either way, whenever you come by, he greets you with a wave.]
Hey, good to see you. You just passing by, or are you here to visit?
[D]
[Your obligatory wildcard, if you need or want GV somewhere else.]

Who: Emille + whomever.
What: A. A not-so-routine trip to the Infirmary; B. Important Info Network post; C. An attempt at normalcy by holding Daemon Biology class; D. Research in the Library/Wildcard.
When: A. Early October; B. October 14; C/D. Mid to late October.
Where: A. The Infirmary; B. The Iris Network; C. A classroom in the labs; D. The Hall of Pythia.
Warnings: None so far.
Note: Will match format.
[These past few months have been insane for Emille. Ever since the Dragon daemon Sleepy Hollow appeared in Lebanon, things have gradually and continually tumbled out of control. After finding herself marked twice at the end of August, she fell into a month-long slumber as her body and mind fought being taken over by both a Herald and... something else. It was only through the spiritual barrier her sister Aitelle protected her with that she managed to remain in a coma-like stasis.
However, Emille was far from asleep during that span of time. She heard and saw many things -- important things that could change the course of everything. Not that the course of everything hasn't already been turned upside-down enough lately.
Emille woke up with a jolt on the night of October 1, as the full moon reached its apex in the sky above the Academy. Since then, throughout the month of October, she has been scurrying around with a rushed purpose, obviously intent on fulfilling something and quickly. Even so, she is still able to keep herself looking spotless and neat -- save for the extra red around her eyes, and the left hand that she keeps bandaged and, uhm, it's still slightly glowing purple through the bandages.
The following prompts are snippets of what Emille's been up to this month.]
( A. Infirmary freak out )

After what amounted to a major surprise encounter the previous day, Gunvolt was up most of the night looking over a flash drive provided to him by Zeno. ...It was indeed not comfortable reading, and there was just so much he couldn't go over it all. Thankfully, Zeno thoughtfully provided a readme file about what files he should focus on looking at first.
The following couple of days, Gunvolt sought out anyone he knew or trusted to share what he could with them, providing a warning that the content would be deeply unsettling.
Turned out, Sumeragi had gathered quite a large supply of data about many people.
After sharing this data with you, Gunvolt looks stonefaced and grim.
"Just when you think Sumeragi was bad enough, they find ways to be even worse. We might be close to a boiling point."
...Of course, with fires popping up all over the world now, Sumeragi was just another big problem in a pile of Big Problems.
[B]
Perhaps in a twist, Gunvolt isn't working himself to death in response to all this news. Instead, he's found himself going to the gym to exercise and train, though less of what would be combat drills. No, this time it's flexibility and agility training, and even partaking in some pickup games of basketball or football, whichever he could get into.
He felt like all of his lab work had slowed him down a bit, and that he needed to give that part of his mind some time to rest.
And he'd be lying if he wasn't having some fun in doing it. He might be playing a sport with you, or cooling down at one of the smoothie bars.
[C]
Alternatively, you can catch him back in the Aube dorm, having freshly showered and changed... and for once, his hair was down and unbraided. Seems he's been trying to brush it back into shape and holy shit this boy has a lot of hair, going all the way down to his legs. With it down, it's probably way easier to mistake him for a girl, particularly from the back.

[A: Cafeteria]
[Despite the... well, general insanity of the world, your average school days still continued, even in the summer. Between classes, Gunvolt made his way to get a hot lunch, and settled down at a table, and produced a book. Looked like a civics textbook, which he cracked open while eating his meal. Studying even while eating, but it didn't look like it was particularly bothersome to him.
He did turn his eyes to anyone who got close or decided to sit near him. ...Honestly, it was times like this where he felt... almost normal.]
Hey there. What's up? Your day going okay?
[B: Research, Development, and Fatigue]
[Other times, though, he clearly wasn't normal. There were many days over the past few months that he spent toiling away in the forge, the Anvil, testing and tinkering with his own equipment, creating new weapons or devices, or... looking to solve other problems. Trying to find ways to help the Black Mages. Gunvolt's workstation was covered, almost top to bottom, with various blueprints and theories on anything he could think of, but admittedly many of them were iterations on ideas, rather than amazing new tech. He was smart, he knew, but advancing runic tech was hard and took more hours than he really had. Still, it didn't stop him from trying. His workspace was littered with in progress projects, but the big one there at the moment looked like a massive sci-fi looking rifle that looked almost more like a cannon, which he pushed forward on his desk and laid his head down for a moment, the clambor in the workshop nothing more than white noise at this point.]
...I think it's finished. I think. Just need to charge a battery... then test it.
[The young man reached over to a tumbler of coffee, and he sat up only long enough to take a long chug of it, before slumping back onto his workstation.]
Ugh. Why do I keep doing this? I don't even know if anyone's going to want to use these even if they do work. Or even if we can mass produce them. ...and I don't even know if I'm any closer to... ugh. Never enough. I don't know if it'll ever be enough.
[Another drag from his coffee, probably unaware that somebody might've overheard him in his frustration.]
[C: Gaming Club, featuring a familiar face]
[Busy as he was, the gaming club had held some solace to him over the past few weeks. It was work in helping to keep it going after everything else, but it was at least much lower impact than engineering or other studies. Still took energy, but other students helping to shoulder that made it easier. But going in today was going to be a little different. When Gunvolt arrives at the club meeting, he's not alone. A girl follows in behind him; she looks older than he is, with long grayish-white hair, and pointedly purple eyes, dressed in the Daybreak Academy uniform, though without the beret. She looks a little awkward to be there, nervous, even, but she's not buckling under people looking at her, either.]
Hey guys, sorry I'm late. Wanted to bring along a new member of the club. She's pretty fond of video games, so I invited her to come to a meeting, so you all could meet her, if you haven't already.
[Gunvolt looked to her, and gave her a reassuring nod. The girl gave a smile, though it looked somewhat forced through uncertainty.]
Ah... hello. It's nice to meet you. My name's Elise. I'm... happy, to be here.
[Some might remember this girl as one of Sumeragi's victims, during the raid on one of their mountain facilities. The girl weaponized by Sumeragi, but rescued by Daybreak. She'd mostly kept to herself as she received treatment and therapy for her trauma, but as late has started to emerge on campus more regularly, but this was the first time she really joined a social gathering.]
Today's a lot of co-op games, right? Elise is pretty good at games, so don't be shy in asking her to play with you, either.
[D: Open to Desidera]
[During a Friday in early July, Gunvolt pushes back to his dorm room in the late afternoon, looking to take a lighter day. Skipping work at the Anvil, he just wanted to get back for some rest, and to be with Desidera and Monarch. Frankly, Desidera had never been far from his mind since he left in the morning, and instead of pushing himself to work harder that he'd just go home and be with her. ...There'd been something he'd been wanting to do for quite awhile anyway.
The door opened, and a tired, but happy looking Gunvolt stepped inside and shut the door behind him. Monarch's hologram quickly turned to the door and gave a wave and a smile.]
Hey, I'm back. How are you both?

[Since encountering what turned out to be the next Herald and feeling that sort of immense pressure and fear, Gunvolt has redoubled his training difficulty. Enough to push himself to new limits; though considerably more dangerous than before. He still played by whatever rules the Cage set up for training protocols, but he's much less conservative in his training regimen.
Whether you're watching him, or actively training with GV as a form of sparring, at some point during this intense training, he takes a gash in his arm. He recoils in pain, hissing and throwing his hand over the wound to put pressure on it as blood starts to flow. A quiet curse in German follows, though it's more at the discomfort and his own screw-up rather than at whatever hurt him.]
Better get this patched up before we continue. Just give me a...
[...A strange sensation fills him as he speaks, which is what gives him pause. Removing his hand from the injury, sparks of bright blue lightning arced through his blood and wound, criss-crossing over it and dancing down towars his fingertips. In a matter of moments, the wound's bleeding all but stopped, and it started to close up on its own. Blinking in confusion, Gunvolt tested his hand and arm... it still stung and was tender, but... he had full range of motion.]
Huh. That's... new. Did you see that...?
[The young man still looks completely baffled by this.]
B: The Anvil and Testing Grounds
[If you're a frequent comer to the Anvil for runic inscription, forging, or anything else involving crafting magical things, you've probably seen Gunvolt there pretty often. Much of the time, he's been tinkering with his armor and Dart Leader, adding and adjusting features and further protection to his equipment. But like his training, he's pushing his limits further, looking for new ways to use his skills and adapt his powers. His toil has been practically relentless over the past couple of weeks; whenever he had time where he wasn't scheduled to train, go to class, or relax, he was here, working on a few new inventions. One was still in blueprinting, but he had started to procure a number of parts... a long pole, some magical runic engine... and he'd ordered what looked like a heavy axe head and speartip. Whatever he had in mind looked to be... quite a thing. It also looked like he was in the midst of developing an entirely new Dart Leader pistol as well, judging by the gun frame on his worktable and several vital components and internals covered by a clear plastic lid.
But for now, he donned the other thing he had been working on. A pair of mythril bracers, etched and runed to the gills in his own specific style. Sturdy, yet flexible, the bracers' purpose wasn't immediately clear by look. GV moved into his testing ground, though it was more like a shooting range.]
Time to see if all this sweat has paid off.
[The Candle closed his eyes, looking like he was envisioning something in his mind's eye. His focus looked intense, and soon enough a few runes on his bracers lit up a dark orange. Drawing his Dart Leader, he fired off a set of darts at the target down range, and then channeled his Radiance. His Flashfield remained a brilliant blue, lightning coursing all around him, though when he threw out his hand to direct it, instead of the usual lightning, a series of fireballs launched out from the field and homed in on the dummy unerringly. The flames exploded and erupted on impact, but the dummy remained standing, thanks to its magical durability. Smoke and brimstone filled the air along with the smell of ozone that sometimes followed Gunvolt's electrical power.
GV looked over to the screen next to his station, which measured estimated damage and energy inflicted on the target dummy, and clicked his tongue, in a mixture of triumph and disappointment.]
...It's working, all right. But I'm still bleeding power in the elemental transfer. The question is... is it the runic pattern I used not efficient enough, is it me, or is this something that can't be helped? ...Maybe another element.
[It was at about that point that Gunvolt realized there were eyes on him, and he turned around to glance at whomever it was over his shoulder. He was still focused on his work, so he might not be paying full attention at just who he was looking at.]
Hey, sorry. Didn't know you were back there. Commissions are a little tight right now, but if you need something made, I might be your guy.
C: Wild Card, Relaxation
[Fortunately, despite his intensity with work lately, he's still not forgotten what Nana and his friends have taught him. Take time for yourself. Recharge. Relax. He takes time to stop by Cafe Phantom to enjoy coffee and sweets while doing some light studying, while also spending time in Aube's common room playing video games, either on console or handheld.
In these places, he can be joined by Monarch, if so desired.]
