TOUR AND A MOVIE

Filming is ramping up.

Just as before, Higher Daybreak faculty are encouraging participants to see this as a way of learning to use their magical skills in a way that is discrete and ensures the protection of the Veil. It's spoken of as a chance for students to better learn how to hide their abilities while still putting them to use, disguising them as various other talents. In turn, they'll be credited in the film's production once it's complete, as well as receive extra credits in related courses. And of course, besides the great publicity, what better way to make a hit movie than adding a magical touch to it?

While work around the set continues to be welcomed and encouraged, this month filmmakers are particularly keen on finding those who can fill a newly opened role for an extra! Daybreak students are being to the very rare and special opportunity to audition in, without even going through the gruelling ordeal of terse agents, discouraging phone calls, and dull waiting areas! Just line right up and give it your best!

The following roles are open:

-Kindly and Adoring Town's Person Number Five

-Irritable Officer Number Two

-Overdramatic Restaurant Employee (or Customer, adjusted to match ages)

On top of this extraordinary opportunity, the winning student will be treated to a day on the town with De La Cruz himself.

On top of all this, with the improving weather, more scenes are being shot outside and in the heart of Soliel. It's quite possible to wander on set entirely by accident! Just remember that maintaining the laws of the Veil during this important project is still of utmost importance.

HONEST EFFORTS

Nothing happened. He took precautions, he followed the spell, he did everything right. He double-checked the runes and then triple checked the cage he'd set himself up in. There was light, there was energy, a whole burst of it shooting up around him and then darting out past the walls (and over the campus). And then nothing. He was still just as dead as before. He wasn't even a different kind of dead like his usual screw-ups led to. He made a flashy light show and nothing more. In a fit of frustration, he scraped the whole circle, packed up, and settled in to go back to work the next night.

But, with that morning, students and faculty alike around Daybreak may find themselves afflicted with a sudden need to be a little more candid than usual. Maybe a lot more candid.

The urge for honesty may manifest in being suddenly unable to lie-- either directly or at all. It might mean talking way too much. Maybe it means confessing things you've been bottling up, or simply showing who you are inside when you'd normally be inclined to hide it. It might just be something small and simple going throughout the day. Or, it could build into something so overwhelming it becomes impossible to bear until the truth is out. It varies from person to person and does, eventually, go away.

But it also may be intensified in those who might be just a bit too close to a certain someone...

[Valvatorez was happening by at the time, glimpsing Kokoro sitting at the edge, looking... more introspective than usual. He drew nearer, and close enough to hear her statement, and his expression actually softened somewhat when he did. Not an unheard of sight, but probably one most students were not used to seeing.]

...Apologies if I'm disturbing you.

[But he makes no effort to leave. In fact, he instead takes a seat beside her, his normally sharp red eyes turning toward her.]

...If you want to talk about it, Kokoro, I am willing to lend an ear.

[stavros]

[Kokoro jumps a little, but composes herself and inclines her head in greeting.]

My apologies, Professor. Mr. Gehring did tell me recently, I ought to deal with my problems. I've become so accustomed to putting them away for later because I'm needed that I just... haven't ever returned to them. And I know not why I'm saying this now, but I must, right?

[arcadianvampire]

[The vampire nodded, looking quite sympathetic.]

Mr. Gehring can be quite wise about such things; there are problems in our lives that cannot be so easily vanquished with the stroke of a sword, nor the crack of a whip. Things that build, and can fester in the mind, where we try to compartmentalize it away. Like an ugly sweater in the back of a closet.

[It's an odd analogy, but he delivers it with a pointedly straight face.]

What you describe... it's not all that uncommon for people of any stripe. But just because it happens often does not mean it's trivial. Learning to deal with what's accumulated is important for your continued well-being. Mentally, emotionally, and even physically.

If you've realized you hit a point where you're not okay, then... yes, it would be a good idea to talk about why. It might give you insight on what you might need to do for yourself.

[stavros]

[She looks at the ground, but nods along.]

Everything should be resolved, right? Yet for some time, especially since Candles started coming in... Most of them were civilians before all this, so I understand they've had very different lives, but when people start pitying me for having lived a life ruled by duty or say I shouldn't be okay with it, it's strange. Because --

[She tries to hold back, but it lasts half a second.]

I do have doubts sometimes. None of this was supposed to happen to me, and yet it had to. I try not to acknowledge it, but I've been tempted to want to be normal. Yet at the same time I don't, because the duty I've inherited is important and I don't want to throw it away selfishly. The world needs people to protect it. It needs us to protect it. But saying that drives people off further. ...I know not.

[arcadianvampire]

[He nods, noting her initial reluctance, but he didn't say anything about it. He does, however, hum thoughtfully.]

You were born into a position of difficulty, given your lineage. You are right that the world needs people protecting it, and that your family is perhaps the greatest line of them all in that sacred task. That itself is a heavy burden, and the pressure would break many unprepared for it.

[He blinks once, turning his eyes to the horizon beyond them.]

I believe many civilians may not understand that while the world needs you and your family, you made the choice to step up in a time of need. No one forced you to do it, but you found the resolve and desire to do so of your own will. Many see traditions as shackles, or have seen family expectation color their own lives unduly. They have be made to understand that you chose it, not that it was forced upon you.

[He looked back to her, and gave her a nod.]

But for all that talk about fulfilling duties and responsibility to your family's cause, that doesn't mean you can't have some things both ways. It's true, you might never be... normal, exactly, but it's very much okay to explore what you like, and who you are, beyond the Belmont name.

[stavros]

[Kokoro follows his eyes out to the mountains, and she nods, thinking it over.]

You have my thanks. I suppose I do worry about a great deal without trying to let on that weakness. I'll do my best with what fate has given, as I always have, and I suppose... there likely isn't harm in trying with the rest.

I wonder, though. I didn't feel any different, yet I wouldn't have said half of this... Have you seen anyone else acting oddly?

[arcadianvampire]

For what it might be worth to you, I do not see that as a weakness in you at all. An important thing to remember? Heroes, Hunters, legends? They're people. And they're all more than just what they fight for and the duties they perform.

[He raises an eyebrow at her question though, pausing for a moment to think. ...He hadn't felt anything, nor did he feel any different from usual. Probably because he was frankly honest with almost everyone on almost all subjects all the time anyway.]

...I suppose people have been a little more candid today, now that you mention it.

[stavros]

A spell, perhaps, or a fae effect. We have had a good number of visitors lately.

[arcadianvampire]

Perhaps. Or it could be another one of those senior pranks. Or even just a spell gone wrong somewhere on campus. It wouldn't be the first time if so.

[Valvatorez shrugged a little, not seeming terribly concerned, though his voice remained serious.]

Rest assured I will keep what you said to me in confidence, either way. As well if you have anything else on your mind that you'd like to talk about, or ask.
