TOUR AND A MOVIE

Filming is ramping up.

Just as before, Higher Daybreak faculty are encouraging participants to see this as a way of learning to use their magical skills in a way that is discrete and ensures the protection of the Veil. It's spoken of as a chance for students to better learn how to hide their abilities while still putting them to use, disguising them as various other talents. In turn, they'll be credited in the film's production once it's complete, as well as receive extra credits in related courses. And of course, besides the great publicity, what better way to make a hit movie than adding a magical touch to it?

While work around the set continues to be welcomed and encouraged, this month filmmakers are particularly keen on finding those who can fill a newly opened role for an extra! Daybreak students are being to the very rare and special opportunity to audition in, without even going through the gruelling ordeal of terse agents, discouraging phone calls, and dull waiting areas! Just line right up and give it your best!

The following roles are open:

-Kindly and Adoring Town's Person Number Five

-Irritable Officer Number Two

-Overdramatic Restaurant Employee (or Customer, adjusted to match ages)

On top of this extraordinary opportunity, the winning student will be treated to a day on the town with De La Cruz himself.

On top of all this, with the improving weather, more scenes are being shot outside and in the heart of Soliel. It's quite possible to wander on set entirely by accident! Just remember that maintaining the laws of the Veil during this important project is still of utmost importance.

HONEST EFFORTS

Nothing happened. He took precautions, he followed the spell, he did everything right. He double-checked the runes and then triple checked the cage he'd set himself up in. There was light, there was energy, a whole burst of it shooting up around him and then darting out past the walls (and over the campus). And then nothing. He was still just as dead as before. He wasn't even a different kind of dead like his usual screw-ups led to. He made a flashy light show and nothing more. In a fit of frustration, he scraped the whole circle, packed up, and settled in to go back to work the next night.

But, with that morning, students and faculty alike around Daybreak may find themselves afflicted with a sudden need to be a little more candid than usual. Maybe a lot more candid.

The urge for honesty may manifest in being suddenly unable to lie-- either directly or at all. It might mean talking way too much. Maybe it means confessing things you've been bottling up, or simply showing who you are inside when you'd normally be inclined to hide it. It might just be something small and simple going throughout the day. Or, it could build into something so overwhelming it becomes impossible to bear until the truth is out. It varies from person to person and does, eventually, go away.

But it also may be intensified in those who might be just a bit too close to a certain someone...

Some of them do, but even then it may be daunting. Most of them are in the buildings down the hall that way, though the sports and performing arts clubs tend to congregate in their own buildings instead. Which one are you looking for?

[She looks sheepish. This is probably a terrible idea, but.]

I see! Searching for the best fit. It is a good deal of time away from club recruitment drive week, so this must be the easiest way. Let us depart, then.

[She gestures to follow as she starts walking down the hall.]

Well met, by the way. My name is Kokoro Belmont. And yourself?

Oh! I'm Ruadh Speir. It's nice to meet you, Kokoro.

[She nods at that analysis, though.]

To be honest, I'm not good at much, but I know that clubs look good on your school transcripts, so...

Surely everyone is good at something. And besides... well, perhaps it's as Professor Valvatorez says. Even when we are serious, we need not forget to have fun.

I'm not good at having fun, either, though...

[help her.]

[Kokoro stops in the hallway and gives Ruadh a very serious look.]

In that case, there is one very crucial piece of advice I must give.

If you are unsure of whether to take song lyrics literally or to believe someone who says the true meaning is something dirty, do not under any circumstances settle the issue by polling the network on the school intranet.

.... Do people do that? Is that a thing?

[She just, very, very awkwardly reaches out to try to pat Kokoro's shoulder.

She's trying to help.]

[Kokoro lets herself be pat, albeit with a blink of surprise.]

Worry not! Now you know what not to do. I've attended this school for some time, yet the influx of civilians -- well, former civilians... it's changed things, I suppose. Though perhaps that's just an excuse. Some people are simply closer tied to their sense of duty than others?

Changed things?

You mean, um, other than with dirty lyrics?

The culture of the school, I would say. Regardless, surely you will find what you seek, both fun and things that look good on a transcript. Even if you fear you may not excel at anything, what do you like?

What do I like... Um, I like sewing? Oh, and learning new things about magic.

I see. You'll get along with a lot of people here. What sort of magic do you use?

It's, um... Well, it's a bit complicated... I can sort of, copy other peoples' magic? Which sounds great in theory but in practice it's... difficult.

I see.

[She gestures to continue down the hall.]

That certainly would be. I have no true magic or Flame myself, though a bloodline ability or two may seem like it.

[She starts walking after her, a bit embarrassed.]

I don't really understand a lot of the differences and such... Aren't they all the same thing?

Not entirely. Flames are the abilities of Candles. Concentrated Radiance, essentially, unlike the old and hidden arts that mages practise.

But it's still the same thing, isn't it? If you make fire and light a candle, whatever you call the power, it still does the same thing.

It depends. Radiance, for one, is far more effective against fell beings such as daemons. No offence to any daemons about, of course.

[Which might not be what you'd expect to hear from someone very obviously wearing multiple crosses and very obviously with the last name of an old Hunter clan, but Daybreak is Daybreak.]

... Are there demons here?

Not many. Most are evil, but here, we do have some who have turned their hearts to protecting creation rather than destroying it. It makes sense when one thinks about it, does it not? For one to be evil, they must have a choice or an option to do good. Daemons, vampires, Blighted, that choice appears to all kinds of people. Some take it.

... This world is very, very complicated...

Such is life. I find that myself far too often.
