TOUR AND A MOVIE

Filming is ramping up.

Just as before, Higher Daybreak faculty are encouraging participants to see this as a way of learning to use their magical skills in a way that is discrete and ensures the protection of the Veil. It's spoken of as a chance for students to better learn how to hide their abilities while still putting them to use, disguising them as various other talents. In turn, they'll be credited in the film's production once it's complete, as well as receive extra credits in related courses. And of course, besides the great publicity, what better way to make a hit movie than adding a magical touch to it?

While work around the set continues to be welcomed and encouraged, this month filmmakers are particularly keen on finding those who can fill a newly opened role for an extra! Daybreak students are being to the very rare and special opportunity to audition in, without even going through the gruelling ordeal of terse agents, discouraging phone calls, and dull waiting areas! Just line right up and give it your best!

The following roles are open:

-Kindly and Adoring Town's Person Number Five

-Irritable Officer Number Two

-Overdramatic Restaurant Employee (or Customer, adjusted to match ages)

On top of this extraordinary opportunity, the winning student will be treated to a day on the town with De La Cruz himself.

On top of all this, with the improving weather, more scenes are being shot outside and in the heart of Soliel. It's quite possible to wander on set entirely by accident! Just remember that maintaining the laws of the Veil during this important project is still of utmost importance.

HONEST EFFORTS

Nothing happened. He took precautions, he followed the spell, he did everything right. He double-checked the runes and then triple checked the cage he'd set himself up in. There was light, there was energy, a whole burst of it shooting up around him and then darting out past the walls (and over the campus). And then nothing. He was still just as dead as before. He wasn't even a different kind of dead like his usual screw-ups led to. He made a flashy light show and nothing more. In a fit of frustration, he scraped the whole circle, packed up, and settled in to go back to work the next night.

But, with that morning, students and faculty alike around Daybreak may find themselves afflicted with a sudden need to be a little more candid than usual. Maybe a lot more candid.

The urge for honesty may manifest in being suddenly unable to lie-- either directly or at all. It might mean talking way too much. Maybe it means confessing things you've been bottling up, or simply showing who you are inside when you'd normally be inclined to hide it. It might just be something small and simple going throughout the day. Or, it could build into something so overwhelming it becomes impossible to bear until the truth is out. It varies from person to person and does, eventually, go away.

But it also may be intensified in those who might be just a bit too close to a certain someone...

"To divine the future is a burden, from what I've seen."

Hornet never inherited even the slightest drop of ability to see the future, and she's glad of it. She has enough to deal with as it is. Her expression is impassive and guarded as she stares up at the shelves devoted solely to the archives of past Seers.

Her footfalls are near-silent (out of habit, rather than deliberate pranking purposes), so Anand may or may not notice Hornet until she speaks, quite close by.

"It's not a great time," Anand says, "but it did prevent me from jumping out of my skin just now. You're very quiet."

She turns to look at Hornet. "You know a few Seers, then?"

"My father was one." Her voice is clipped, as if she doesn't like to hear the words she's saying, and wants to get them out as quickly as possible. By now she knows the effects of whatever spell has gripped the Academy, but she doesn't have to like it. She can still say little, even if that little is true.

Her mouth twists, severe and unhappy. "It amounted to little in the end, save the ruin of others, and of himself. Though what part of it could be attributed to his far-seeing, I'm uncertain."

She is noticeably silent on the topic of walking quietly. It's just something that happens, with her. She won't apologise, nor explain, her reasons for it; they are straightforward, to her.

"A lot of these stories end up in tragedy, as far as I know," Anand says, gesturing at the shelves. "Either because people don't listen, don't like what they heard, or the Seer was just a jerk or a charlatan. Er, not to say your dad was either of those, I obviously didn't know him."

She offers Hornet a hand. "I'm Anand. I'm new here and some magic is making introductions even more awkward than usual for me."

Hornet takes the hand, shaking with a certain amount of reservation. Anand may or may not get the impression that while Hornet has learned manners, it's been a while since she's exercised them.

"I am Hornet." She inclines her head in a slight nod. There is the notable omission of any sort of social pleasantry that usually goes after it.

"He rarely allowed people to know him. And he was a terrible person, regardless," she says, after a moment, in response to Anand's other words. She noticeably does not correct Anand on any of the things she's said.

"Ouch. I'm sorry to hear that," Anand says, honestly. Taking in Hornet's horns and eyes, she adds, "sorry to pry, but are you Fey? Or part-Fey? I'm asking because Fey Seer is a reasonably uncommon combination but obviously relevant to me and the worst part of whatever curse this is is that I can not stop explaining myself except by changing the subject."

"My father was Fey. My mother is not." White, mildly luminescent hair is the only real reminder of her father's legacy, at least on the outside. "Though I hope I inherit little from him."

"And I hope this spell wears off soon, whatever it is. I've little that I wish to reveal to others."

"I'll stop pressing. The last thing I want to do is piss anyone off when I'm this new," she says. "...which I guess you can take as an honest assessment of my priorities."

"It's cool to meet another part-Fey, though, I can't lie about that even normally."

[ She simply shrugs at the mention of angering people. ] People do what they will. I see little point in measuring their feelings offhand.

You've seen little of other part-Fey... [ Her voice is curious, at least mildly so. ] Where did you live, before this?

I'm from Ireland. The...more behind the Veil parts of it, obviously. And it's not so much I haven't met a lot of part-Fey as I haven't met a lot I'm not related to.

[silksoul]

[ Oh, yes, the Veil. She's heard about this. ]

Ireland. [ Hornet says the name thoughtfully, like she's never heard of it. Which........well. ] It must be a place of some significance, to have so many of Fey lineage.

Best country on the green Earth. But mostly it was just one of the last places in Europe where fairies stopped interacting with people regularly. The Veil hasn't always been quite the same as it is now.
