Reverend Reverend please come quick 'cause I got something to admit

Who: Ernesto OR Héctor + TWO Mingle spaces
What: TOUR AND A MOVIE PART TWO; STARING YOU? + NECROMANCY; HONEST EFFORTS (a.k.a, Héctor's failed revival this month is a truth spell.)
When: April, late in the month
Where: A filming location in Soliel, Daybreak Academy
Warning: N/A
Notes: People affected by Héctor's accidental truth spell can also bring this into the movie mingle. Have you ever lied without actually lying? Now's the time to learn!

TOUR AND A MOVIE

Filming is ramping up.

Just as before, Higher Daybreak faculty are encouraging participants to see this as a way of learning to use their magical skills in a way that is discrete and ensures the protection of the Veil. It's spoken of as a chance for students to better learn how to hide their abilities while still putting them to use, disguising them as various other talents. In turn, they'll be credited in the film's production once it's complete, as well as receive extra credits in related courses. And of course, besides the great publicity, what better way to make a hit movie than adding a magical touch to it?

While work around the set continues to be welcomed and encouraged, this month filmmakers are particularly keen on finding those who can fill a newly opened role for an extra! Daybreak students are being to the very rare and special opportunity to audition in, without even going through the gruelling ordeal of terse agents, discouraging phone calls, and dull waiting areas! Just line right up and give it your best!

The following roles are open:

-Kindly and Adoring Town's Person Number Five

-Irritable Officer Number Two

-Overdramatic Restaurant Employee (or Customer, adjusted to match ages)

On top of this extraordinary opportunity, the winning student will be treated to a day on the town with De La Cruz himself.

On top of all this, with the improving weather, more scenes are being shot outside and in the heart of Soliel. It's quite possible to wander on set entirely by accident! Just remember that maintaining the laws of the Veil during this important project is still of utmost importance.

HONEST EFFORTS

Nothing happened. He took precautions, he followed the spell, he did everything right. He double-checked the runes and then triple checked the cage he'd set himself up in. There was light, there was energy, a whole burst of it shooting up around him and then darting out past the walls (and over the campus). And then nothing. He was still just as dead as before. He wasn't even a different kind of dead like his usual screw-ups led to. He made a flashy light show and nothing more. In a fit of frustration, he scraped the whole circle, packed up, and settled in to go back to work the next night.

But, with that morning, students and faculty alike around Daybreak may find themselves afflicted with a sudden need to be a little more candid than usual. Maybe a lot more candid.

The urge for honesty may manifest in being suddenly unable to lie-- either directly or at all. It might mean talking way too much. Maybe it means confessing things you've been bottling up, or simply showing who you are inside when you'd normally be inclined to hide it. It might just be something small and simple going throughout the day. Or, it could build into something so overwhelming it becomes impossible to bear until the truth is out. It varies from person to person and does, eventually, go away.

But it also may be intensified in those who might be just a bit too close to a certain someone...

"Expressing your worries to others will help with that last part. I'd advise therapy, or some other way to ground yourself in reality when such things happen," Ekkehardt remarks, after a long moment of processing what the boy has just said. "As for the rest..."

He takes another drag of the cigarette, a deep breath of smoke that's incapable of affecting him any more. "It's a messy business, I won't deny that. I'm sure you understand the scale of the casualties that could be incurred by now. But..."

He blows out smoke in a controlled stream, careful to keep it away from Tobias. "We can only do so much, any of us. Occasionally, you will find that things are out of your control, no matter how much you wish it was otherwise. That's life, I'm afraid. Not that we shouldn't do as much as we can to help, of course, but..."

He shrugs, a little. "It's a complicated thing."

< Therapy. Huh. > It's a weird thought, that a school like this might have something as mundane as therapists. He preens some feathers on his back, restlessly, trying not to start spewing all his thoughts out again.

< I didn't think that was... uh, an option here. Because I can't go to just anyone, obviously. Even if I morph human, I can't explain half the stuff that's gone on. > A beat. < What do you mean by 'ground yourself'? What do you think would do it? >

"Find something that reminds you of the present, that things are real. A hobby, or a habit...I like physical things, myself. Sewing, playing piano. Drawing badly. Something with a tangible effect. It's harder for your brain to convince itself it's still back in the past if you're making something with your hands."

He inhales, quietly. Exhales again. "It's different for everyone. You should find something that works for you."

< Flying. Really flying, riding the thermals, it's what I love most. But that's not always an option. Like right now, when I should be in class. > He'll have to apologize later, and hope he doesn't get detention. Tomorrow, when these ridiculous urges to blurt out everything are over.

< I draw some. I guess I'm not bad. Beats flying out the window in the middle of a lecture, I'd be able to draw and listen at the same time. If they'd understand. It's not an everyday thing, anyway, I make it through classes alright. Truth spell pushed me over the edge. >

"Drawing sounds like a good option for you, then." He just sort of frowns at the waving-off, but he doesn't call attention to it. He's got enough to deal with as it is. "You should ask if they can make accommodations for you. I imagine it would be far more manageable than flying off in the middle of a lecture."

< Yes, I know, I shouldn't have. > He sounds vaguely tired. Does he have to apologize to Ekke too? Lovely. But that's what schools are like, he supposes. No excuses. Not even if you're defending yourself in a fight, you'll be punished all the same.

< Would they, though? It's a bit late now. I went back to class like nothing was wrong right after, I don't think anyone would believe me, it's been too long. >

That gets another, deeper frown, as he crosses his arms. "Do you think I'm going to scold you for wanting to get out of classes, especially when many of us are under a magical effect?" Compulsion has made him unusually frank.

"Because you're free to believe that - I can't stop you. But it's not my intent, and assuming it is only hampers communication.

As for accommodations, you'll have to explain yourself, yes. But given you already have a record of being through traumatic experiences, I doubt they're going to write you off entirely."

< Wouldn't be the first time I've been a 'problem student'. >

Oh. Oh, hell. That should not have slipped out--birds don't go to school, he couldn't have been a problem student before, unless... He moves on as quick as he can, hoping it'll be overlooked. < Who should I talk to? >

It seems like this whole school is full of 'problem students', sometimes. Ah, well. He doesn't begrudge any of them that; it's not their fault they've been mistreated. He just sighs and shakes his head. "I'm not writing you off as a problem student. It's no business of mine what your previous record was.

But as to who you should talk to...to your teachers directly, or to a counselor. They should be able to give you accommodations. If you need any medical-related confirmations, come to the infirmary and either I or one of the other trained staff will handle it."

He shuffles and resettles his wings, a more obvious nervous habit than preening. Easier said than done. But if it keeps the memories away... and if they let him always have a window seat... maybe it would be better. Maybe he'll get past this.

< Okay. I appreciate it. I'll... I'll ask. Not right away, but soon. > Absolutely not today. He'll end up spewing his whole life story. It's burning beneath his skin, it wants out. < ...They have counselors at the school? >
