[Open] The Mark of the Herald

Mark of the Herald Part I
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation
Despite certain disruptive events and ominous visions in the preceding month, August is seemingly still free of any problems.
That’s quick to change, however. Starting from the third of the month, strange, circular marks begin to appear on human students around the school - and, indeed, humans around the world. Those affected begin to feel incurably drowsy, something that no magical or mundane solution can seem to cure or relieve; eventually, they’ll fall asleep entirely, whether they want to or not, and enter a state of magical stasis. Not even nonhumans are immune, though whether they’re marked seems to be much more erratic.
Those who remain awake or are otherwise spared by the mark are free to do as they wish - the Academy won’t ask them to do more than keep themselves safe. But where each marked person falls in slumber, a portal will form; a strange tear in reality, offering glimpses of a surreal, nightmarish plane that differs vastly from individual to individual. One thing is certain; the cause of a victim’s seemingly endless sleep and these portals are linked somehow, and the only way to find out exactly how is to go through...and the only ones capable of doing so are those who are still awake.
This log can be used as a catch-all for event-related threads. The information for this event is here.

[Tobias will likely feel something like wind soon the more he keeps screeching. As he reaches closer to the bottom, something, or somethings whisked pass him in the dark. Light brushes on his feathers that could literally be anything. Anything at all.]
[Oh never mind, they have some glowing soulless eyes.]
[Thankfully, they seem fairly harmless for now? For now...]

And then there are glowing pupil-less eyes, staring at him. He banks to avoid slamming into a pair of eyes, barely able to make out the outline of... something. A darker shape in the pitch black.]
< Who are you?! >

[And worse.]
[As Tobias gets closer to the bottom there was one other thing he had to avoid. Tendrils. They from somewhere underground, beneath all those shells and had every desire to grab him and pull him under.]
[To where exactly? Who knows, but it couldn't possibly be anything good.]

< What the hell is this? Where am I?! >
[There's one secret weapon he hasn't tried yet, though. He uses it so rarely, knowing it would fry a good few of the teachers around here if he isn't careful. Radiance. The entire reason they need him, as a Candle.
Time to do what candles do best and light up the darkness.]

[Fortunately it had the exact opposite effect too. Now Tobias was even easier to notice due to being a blinding light. The tentacles aren't going to miss again.]
[Or, on second thought, maybe they would.]
[Something came zooming across the ground and slashed through one of them. It falls limp and was reasorbed by all the bones underneath. They went to work attacking the others, but eventually they were drawing attention to themselves too.]
[But hey, Tobias has an opportunity to run away now.]
