[Open] The Mark of the Herald

Mark of the Herald Part I
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation
Despite certain disruptive events and ominous visions in the preceding month, August is seemingly still free of any problems.
That’s quick to change, however. Starting from the third of the month, strange, circular marks begin to appear on human students around the school - and, indeed, humans around the world. Those affected begin to feel incurably drowsy, something that no magical or mundane solution can seem to cure or relieve; eventually, they’ll fall asleep entirely, whether they want to or not, and enter a state of magical stasis. Not even nonhumans are immune, though whether they’re marked seems to be much more erratic.
Those who remain awake or are otherwise spared by the mark are free to do as they wish - the Academy won’t ask them to do more than keep themselves safe. But where each marked person falls in slumber, a portal will form; a strange tear in reality, offering glimpses of a surreal, nightmarish plane that differs vastly from individual to individual. One thing is certain; the cause of a victim’s seemingly endless sleep and these portals are linked somehow, and the only way to find out exactly how is to go through...and the only ones capable of doing so are those who are still awake.
This log can be used as a catch-all for event-related threads. The information for this event is here.

At this time, some other noises can be heard from the direction that Jail had come from, further in the direction she didn't go, and closer to where the lights were coming from. It sounds like someone's coming.]

Do me a favor and keep an eye out for anyone coming after us, okay? [May as well recruit a tiny lookout, as long as she's hoisting Becky up here.]

[It's a bit on the dark side there in the building, so it's a bit hard to really see. Or, it would be hard to really see anyone coming if they weren't using a flashlight.
At the same time, that darkness makes it hard for whoever it is back there to really see anything farther down, making Jail and Becky harder for them to notice. It seems that they're not looking down the hall, anyway, and instead are on their way to a certain room in the hallway. They abruptly at that room's door, and with little more than an exclamation of "Shit!", the flashlight is pointed in various directions (somehow still failing to notice Jail making off with Becky in tow, or at least it seems that way) before they turn and hurry back the way they came; their little prisoner has somehow gotten loose and they need to tell the others.]
Um. I— I think they're gonna start coming.

[And that's all the warning she gets before Jailbreak jumps up and starts running along the wall, and then up to the ceiling, jogging towards the exit in total defiance of gravity. It feels like they're just standing on the floor like normal, but everything else is upside down.]
[Hopefully, like most people, the guards won't think to look up right away. It'll buy them a little more time to get out of there.]

HOW
Yeah, she's holding tight. She's holding super tight, to the point that it might be the slightest bit uncomfortable, really.
Fortunately, the people that are coming don't think to look up; as far as they're aware there isn't any reason to.]

[Gravity-defying boots: still one of her best inventions. As long as there's a surface, she can walk on it, no matter what or where it is.]
[She's trying to sprint right over and past any attempted pursuit, not bothering to stick around. After all, her goal here isn't to fight them, her goal is to get the two of them out.]
[She just needs to find an exit. Or, if it comes down to it, make one.]
