Mark of the Herald part II

Mark of the Herald Part II
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

On September 10th, a mountain will rise from swirling waters in the Atlantic, paths of eldritch light will lay themselves over the ocean’s waves, and the siren song of the Herald will become abundantly clear as five glowing figures pull themselves from the glowing heart of the mountain.
Over the waves, over the spire of the mountain, Utultar floats- and dives down to attack, screeching in fury.
“NO!”
He is much too late.
“Just because thou wert chosen first- I will not be usurped- My work is the greater!”
His bitterness and his protest come to no avail, as the figures manifest fully and strike him away from the sleepers in a blow that shakes the waters for forty miles in every direction. He rises, obviously injured now, bleeding strange and terrible ichors. Unable to face them on their own ground, in their own hour, he flees. Leaving the figures to arise unopposed…
Unless you have something to say about that.
The next Herald is no less than the collective subconscious of humanity made manifest in five major aspects of a single vast mind, all linked together by the desire to save it from the apocalypse - even if that means laying waste to, and abandoning, all the world. A day and night of sustained battle is all that stands between the world and Nightfall, and Daybreak is fighting it alongside allied forces from all over the world.
The Beast That Is Man, third Herald of Night, is awake. May you survive the ascension.
All five Aspects of the Beast That Is Man, the twinned sins and virtues of humanity, must be fought and defeated to destroy it. If they are not, the Sun will set for the last time, and what lives in the night will be nothing that humanity ever wanted to become.
Save the world. Save yourselves.
The ooc post for this event is here, and the turn order can be found here.

Avery can't help but think he was born to fight something like this.
His eyes are wide and manic, and yet somehow still hold that cunning, shrewd edge that Avery is known for, knocking sleepwalkers who draw too close away, dashing closer and closer to his target in the shadows.

The equation is simple; hunt and quarry are far too big to miss.
"Try not to get too carried away," Ekkehardt says dryly, following close and using his bandages to catch sleepwalkers or divert them away from Avery's path. "At least until we get to the target." Despite his words, there's almost a thrill to his voice, some gleeful edge. He's looking forward to this, in an odd way.

He's not even using his magic yet. As far as Avery is concerned, he should be getting praised.

He immediately knows when they come to the Aspect's attention; its influence is a heavy weight, a demand to submit in mind and body. He doesn't bother to stop to ask if Avery is ready; he simply trusts that he is, and leaps into the battlefield.

The Aspect can demand whatever it pleases, but Avery isn't one to submit to anyone. Not anymore. And he'll make sure this Herald knows it.

"Then show us the strength of your conviction!"

Rings of thorns pop up from the earth and stone throughout the area.
If the Aspect wants to make it harder to move... well, two can play that game.

He's light enough that the sudden change in environment can be avoided simply by moving quickly. He doubts that will work again once it catches on, but for the moment, he's able to keep up with Avery.

"Don't think you can run!" it calls out from the maw in it's torso this time, as it's sword lunges at Avery, seeming to zig-zag.
