[ The weather is pretty nice, for the beginning March in France. However, the slight redheaded girl dressed in an interesting shirt and some flannel over top doesn't seem to appreciate it. She's shivering as she moves around, seemingly following around a brown-and-brown cat.

She's slapping up posters around the outside of buildings, sometimes upside-down, as if she can't see the posters that she herself is putting up.

The cat seems concerned, though. ] Come on, Maddie, I think we've put up enough signs for one day. You're not dressed for this sort of weather. [ ...Yes, the cat just talked. In a surprisingly deep voice, too.

The girl scowls, but doesn't actually look at the cat as she speaks. Or at anything, really. ] Shush. I-I need to get used to this. When in Rome... or, France, I guess.

[ Of course, she can't just go around posting up posters. She has to actually, you know... move in to her new room, too. Jailbreak said it would be good to re-acclimate herself to normal life, for however much high-budget-Hogwarts could be considered normal.

Which is how she finds herself slowly making her way up to room 304 - at least, she... assumes it's 304. She's got all of her belongings with her - it all fits in her backpack, so no biggie there. She also has her cat riding on her shoulder, and her white cane in one hand.

She runs her free hand along the room number sign next to the door - she finds the braille, reads it. ⠼⠉⠚⠉⠤⠼⠉⠚⠙ 303-304. A suite. ]

I guess this is it. You ready, Zel?

[ Instead of responding, the cat is staring very intently around at anybody who comes into sight. Gauging their magic power, if they have any, as well a general risk assessment. Feel free to be weirded by this cat's freaky gaze. ]


[ 3. ⠋⠁⠩⠊⠕⠝⠀⠋⠁⠥⠭⠤⠏⠁⠎ ]

[ A couple of days after arriving and quote unquote settling in, and Maddie can be found in or around class, wearing an oversized shirt that simply reads DRESS CODE VIOLATION. ]

Forcing a blind girl to comply with a dress code... how draconian. How am I supposed to know what color shirt I'm wearing? That ruins everything.

[ ...of course, the shirt she was wearing said this, but she's not mentioning that. Actually, she might not be aware of that to begin with. ]

Oh I like you. I'm pretty sure we'd get in major trouble if we advertised magic being real to everybody, though. Even if it would save a lot of lives.

[Talking cat? Look, with the things she's seen by now, you'll have to go a lot weirder than that to surprise Marian. However, between the lack of uniform and the poster upside-down, Marian really feels compelled to change her course across the Quad to address these issues.

Her voice isn't particularly mean, but it's also not particularly kind as she points out, sans greeting. First things first.]

Are you still waiting for your uniform, young lady?

[She'd use the name overheard, 'Maddie', but that's likely a nickname, and better to use students' proper names.]

[ Oh... oh snap. There's somebody here. Somebody addressing her?

Well, she's going to assume it's her. She can't actually tell, but it seems safe enough. ]

I, uh, wasn't aware we had uniforms? I pretty much just got here, though. [ She's not looking in any particular direction as she talks, but that means she's not looking at the person she's speaking with, either.

The cat, at least, is looking at her. ]

They mostly involve death, is that all right?

I don't know how most students here are involved with the other side, or whatever we call ourselves, but I've dealt with plenty of death by this point. I can handle some descriptions about it just fine.

People can get fussy about it sometimes.
Also I'm told that bragging about it might be "morally wrong".
But it's not like anything's going to change what happened now.
Anyway: volcanoes.

[ Knock knock knock knock knock—-

The rapping of knuckles against a solid surface doesn't come from the other side of Maddie's front door, but instead, it's the door to the bathroom, the one shared between hers and the room next door. Kano had gotten comfortable having the entire bathroom to himself, but hearing that somebody else was to move into the adjoining room...

Gotta know bathroom preferences so that she's not holding up bathroom using the shower in the morning while he has to pee, or vice versa. ]

Please tell me you're responsible for Pompeii.

[ She's just. Chilling. All worldly possessions put away (her bag is thrown on the floor.) But then, that knock-- ]

....Is my bathroom knocking?!

[suddenlybees]

[ What a weird question- it takes Kano by surprise and it's lucky for him that he catches himself in time before he lets out a laugh and gives himself away. It sure is the bathroom knocking, the bathroom itself and not a person standing inside it.

He continues the knocking, steady beats. ]

[ Give her a few moments, and then the bathroom door is tossed open. ] Okay! Who's there!? [ ...Yes, this is said after the door is opened.

Maddie stands back slightly from the door, a cat watching amused from the bed behind her. Maddie is scowling slightly, but her eyes are unfocused, and she seems to be... waiting for an answer?

Then, quietly, ] Somebody is there, right?

[suddenlybees]

[ Kano startles when the door is flung open in front of his face, but he doesn't move and he holds his breath so that doesn't give him away either. Does she... does she not see him standing right there in front of her at all? He could probably reach out and poke her in the cheek right now, if he isn't so wary about every other person in this school and believe it'd result in him getting his finger bitten off.

Instead, he leans sightly over, still silent, and surveys the room behind her. Another cat... Maverick will be happy, he notes to himself, but Kano's pretty indifferent to animals in general, so his gaze goes trailing around whatever part of the room he can see from the bathroom doorway, if Maddie's gotten anything unpacked at all that he can sneak a peek at. ]

[blackestwitch]

[ There is literally one bookbag, sitting unopened by the bed, and sitting on the bed itself are a cellphone and some sort of collapsible stick. That's it. That's the entire extent of everything this girl brought with her. ]

....Okay, this is getting creepy. Zel, that wasn't you, right?

[ The cat meows. ]

I just thought it would be cool!
And it was very cool.
I've always enjoyed big dramatic wrath-of-god type stuff, sticks with people so much better than just a random stabbing spree.

Apparently it doesn't stick with them enough.

It's never been a goal of mine to convince humanity that magic is real.
That doesn't make any difference to me.

Oh, I see. Actually I don't actually see anything, but I get it.
I do like hearing about Pompeii, so it really did stick with us.

*New people draw Maya's attention, mostly to learn a new sound, a new sliver of information from someone new around the school. And it was right before finals and what's more proper than getting distracted from studying. She's debating offering to help while she watches. Not sure if that's right, or not.*

*Also very aware that she doesn't make noise and has no magical trace, meaning Maya's honestly a dead zone of zero magic which has to be a little weird. And oh man is that going to go over well with the blind girl and her seeing eye- demon? The point is Maya's aware that people who can see her freak out when she sneaks up on them. She's not a monster.*

[suddenlybees]

[ That's... pretty sad, and it's sad because that's about all Kano had brought with him as well when he'd first arrived to the academy, all his things in a single backpack and that alone has him feeling a bit more sympathetic to this girl— though the settling realization that she's blind makes him somewhat nervous, because this is the worst possible match up, isn't it? His illusions wouldn't work on her, and he can't decide whether that's a detriment or a relief.

But that's enough standing around! Kano does what any reasonable person would do in this situation, and knocks his knuckles on the door again. ]

[ Maddie does the only sensible thing one can do in this situation.
