Wastin' Away Again~

Where: A karaoke bar in Soleil.
Warnings: Alcohol

Sometimes, after tests are done and mysteries uncovered, the teachers need to relax.

Which is why there is karaoke! The faculty of Daybreak Academy have converged, through random inspiration and not a terrible lot of planning, on one unsuspecting bar in Soleil on a Friday evening. A few drinks (or more!) are to be had; however, there is also a stage, with a microphone and a big screen -- which shows a music video for whatever song is on -- and the lyrics. A friendly little green ball bounces over them.

It is time to sing your heart out.

It is time... for karaoke.

[Yang doesn't seem to notice. People just don't know how to appreciate Queen! Though... huh, did the song end slightly earlier than he thought?

Naw, no big.

He definitely needs help getting down.]

That was! There's nothing like the classics, am I right?

Oh, totally.

[Michael's idea of what Classical Human Music consists of is pretty eclectic, but. Clearly he knew this one!]

These kids just don't appreciate art.

They need good role models, you see!

[Then Yang trips over a table and falls flat on his ass.]

[Michael laughs delightedly and collapses into a seat nearby.]

I'm a fucking great role model! You too, we're great.

How can they go wrong, with our example?

[Yang, uh, crawls up the chair. And into his seat.]

[eudaimonikos]

Because they are stupid - [Michael reaches out to rest his hand on Yang's shoulder, or head, or just somewhere in that area. Wherever his hand ends up.] - an' they're all trying to kill themselves, all the time.

[ohgoodgrief]

[Yang's head. He's not made it into his chair.]

Hmm. Do you think that's because they're still just kids?

[eudaimonikos]

Dunno. Daemons don't have kids. I've never been one.

[sounds like a brag]

[ohgoodgrief]

...Oh right, I always forget that.

Well, I wasn't like them as a kid. I believe I would have mostly cowered under a chair.

[eudaimonikos]

Pathetic, but it'd raise your chances of survival.

[so he guesses it's an improvement?]

I met Tyzias and Kano when they were kids, y'know! Like, smaller ones, little bones. They summoned me with blood sacrifice. Who does blood sacrifice at that age?

"Pathetic but raising my chances of survival" is probably how I've lived to be thirty.

Huh, Yang things. That's actually about the sum of it: "Huh." He is many things, but easily horrified is not one of them.]

Good grief. How did they know how to?

[eudaimonikos]

Tyzias had a grimoire she'd stolen - I think she just sort of bled all over the page that had my sigil on it. It was a mortal wound, lifeblood and all that. And Kano either did it on accident, or these other guys that were there were trying to call me and he got in there, finished it up. Also on accident.

[Michael frowns into space.]

Maybe they were gonna child-sacrifice him.

[ohgoodgrief]

[That makes Yang sober up, just a little. Not really enough; enough to chastize himself. Good grief, he thinks. A chance to learn about these kids and he's drunk.

It just figures.]

Other guys? Were they trying to hurt him?

...Did you save both of them?

[eudaimonikos]

Pfffff, no!

[Michael chuckles. His gaze darts.






He slumps forward, propping his head up with a hand.]

...maybe. I don't know, I showed up to a summoning and this kid's yelling at me to kill these guys, so I just did.

[ohgoodgrief]

...That sounds like you saved him from people trying to kill him.

[Yang frowns.]

Did they have weapons or anything?

[eudaimonikos]

I wasn't there to save him.

[He totally saved him and doesn't exactly know how to admit it.]

Nah. Well, knives. [Michael waves a hand dismissively. He's a daemon, regular non-magical knives don't really count as a weapon in his head.]

[ohgoodgrief]

Only saints and assholes show up to do good stuff just because.

[Yang shrugs.]

The rest of us just laze our way into being good people.

[eudaimonikos]

[Michael grumbles and lays his head down on the table.]

Would've just killed him if one of them did the summoning.

[ohgoodgrief]

Think of it as a stroke of luck!

You accidentally did a good deed instead of being a child murderer.

[eudaimonikos]

I'm a daemon, I'm already a child murderer.

[He's never specifically sought them out or anything; personally, he's always thought that daemons who do that are a little weird. Picking on the little ones isn't very interesting. But you know, he's old as dirt and things happen.]

But I'd kill anybody who tried to kill him now. I could totally kill those guys so much better if I did it again.

[ohgoodgrief]

Huh. You know, I should be horrified, but I've had a lot to drink, and I'm not sure what to do with that information.

[So he asks about Kano.]

He's a friend, now, then?

[Or maybe a pupil, or even like a kid.

Yang's not going to presume.]

[eudaimonikos]

I guess?

[Michael doesn't quite know himself.]

[ohgoodgrief]

[Yang pauses, considering it for a moment, then:]

Close enough to a friend for government work?

[eudaimonikos]

What?

[He doesn't know about human government even when he's sober]

[ohgoodgrief]

Oh, sorry, it's a saying. "Close enough for government work," it means it's not quite accurate but good enough.
