001, Arrival , OTA

Who: Dust & OTA
What: Arriving in the city/outside the school and being incredibly lost.
Where: Around campus
When: 03/22
Warnings: None

It had been a long trek from the small encampment outside the city where he’d spent the last week. The strange people who had helped nurse him back to 'health' had not given him much in way of instructions on what to do when he returned to the city. All he'd been given was a bag of unfamiliar belongings with clues on where he could have called home. One such item in the back was a room key for the school in the city, Dorm 403. At least if nothing else, he would have a place to sleep.

That is, if he could find the door which the key belonged to.

Dust instinctively put a hand to his forehead as he mentally poured over the details he recalled from the last few days. All he had to do was find this place where he supposedly lived before losing his memories and then things could start going back to normal. Once he got amidst familiar surroundings, the ones that took care of him assured him that his memories would begin returning.

But instead of looking certain of his goals, he looked...incredibly lost. Dust stopped and stared up at the buildings that surrounded him as if he saw them for the first time. Every street looked alien and every road looked strange. Nothing looked familiar. Shouldn't he have felt at least a little at ease in being in the city again? “Maybe once I find this school, I’ll remember something.” He said sigh a sigh.

Rex is a naturally suspicious person, which is a polite way of saying he suffers from severe paranoia. Often off in the surrounding wilderness tending to his projects he'd rather others not see, Dust's first point of contact with Daybreak is a 7'4 man with a shovel over one shoulder, coat zipped up to his nose.

"Lost?" He asks, his voice a deep deadpan and eyes scrutinising the... fox... man? He knows it's unfair to assume any non-human is an enemy, but it is fair because he presumes everyone is a potential enemy no matter who or what they are. Even his friends.

"Indeed? And for what purpose?" To some, it may seem fairly obvious. But Rex always did his best to not make presumptions... but also always presumed the worst, because he wasn't especially good at it. He kept the shovel slung across his shoulder, idly rocking it back and forth by the end of the handle, his other hand in his coat pocket.

"You think it's your old room," he repeats, a brow slightly raised.

What a bizarre statement, without the pre-knowledge that Dust is missing memories. This fellow raises a huge number of questions, but what doesn't around here? Still, the key does look like a Lumière one. It's enough it seems he is meant to be here.

"what do you mean your 'old' room, if this is your first time here?"

The good old amnesia ruse, eh? Rex thinks to himself, though he internally admits the key adds some credence to the story.

"Quite the conundrum," Rex says with a voice that offers no sympathy at all, despite that fact it's swiftly building in him. He is, after all, someone whose entire identity is determined by his memories of the glorious golden days from his youth. Briefly forgetting he's not actually an old man, he just talks like one. "Very well. I shall escort you."

He points with his shovel the correct direction and starts to walk.

"Rex."

That's his whole introduction, he's not just randomly saying king in Latin.

"I'm not so sure of that," he replied just as a straightforwardly, always looking to downplay anything positive about his actions. "Once you see the school, you'll realise how difficult it is to miss."

His words proved true shortly after they turn a corner as, although they were still a fair distance from it, he pointed with his shovel to the academy. Practically a fortress and certainly the most impressive set of structures in the town. "...Student, or faculty?"

A reasonable question, in Rex's mind. It would be perfectly in keeping with Daybreak to hire an amnesiac being of indeterminate species to teach something.

[It is not uncommon for Joker to be out and about exploring. And when he sees the newcomer, he can't help but shadow him, following him curiously while keeping hidden. Dust, however, may sense he is being followed. While Joker is pretty skilled, he isn't impossible to detect.]

[Joker steps out casually from behind some brush, hands in his jacket pockets]

You're pretty perceptive.

[Joker smiles faintly]

No, although it did make it interesting. You new here?

You've been wandering around a bit. Did you need directions?

Daybreak? You're a bit of a ways out, but I can take you there.
