[It’s late in the quarter when Noctis shows up - which is unfortunate. He’s already made plans to start at the spring quarter, but he still shows up a few days early. No harm in that, right? He tries to go by unnoticed, which would be easier if he didn’t stumble into people.]

Uh- [He manages to catch himself after crashing into a complete stranger.] Sorry.

[Noctis doesn’t want to train. He wants to do the complete opposite of that.

But he imagines his family wouldn’t be too pleased with him, and they’re probably going to send someone out to check on him, so he guesses he should keep himself active.

He can be found on the grounds, usually with a sword in hand - though sometimes it’s a lance, or a sword that seems preposterously large, daggers, maybe even a rifle. He has a lot of things he needs to master. He throws himself into training when he bothers to get around to it, but he’s open to a friendly spar.

Sometimes he can be found hanging from the wall of the training grounds - up high, near the ceiling, dangling from a weapon stuck in the wall. He hangs from one arm, looking over the room. He...might be up there for a while.]

[Noct can’t resist the call of the wild, and besides - it’s spring break! That means doing whatever he wants to be doing, right?

What he wants to do is go fishing, which means people can catch him on the way to a quiet spot in one of the surrounding forests, or they can stumble upon him at a small lake, fishing his heart out.

It’s the simple things in life.]

[Ren tends to train on his own and keep to himself a lot. It's not that he's shy. He's just on the quiet side most of the time.

Of course, even someone like him is going to take notice of a random person dangling from the wall. Not in any hurry. Just...kinda hanging out there.

Ren shields his eyes to look up at the person relaxing in an oddly unrelaxing location.]

[It takes Noctis a moment to realize he's got a spectator - he's not exactly expecting to grab people's attention.

But, when he finally notices Ren, he raises his free hand to wave at him. Hi, there.]

As he casually hangs around XD

[Ren wonders if he can get up there himself. It takes him a minute to plot a route. With natural agility and grace, Ren slowly jumps off beams and projections. He only has to pause once or twice to make sure his footing is sound before he's as close as he can get and not just shout from the ground.]

That's a different kind of power.

[Noctis watches him, switching between arms at one point, but he seems fully content to just keep dangling.]

Old family trick.

[Ren would not be able to pull that off in the least. He might be a little envious but it's hard to tell.]

Nah. Not so much.

[He's Trained For This. He's spent way too much time learning how to just...hang around.]

's not like I'm doing much.

[Is this guy secretly ripped to do that? Or just a lot of training? Ren is intrigued.]

Usually I have to climb to get to a vantage point. Do you fly up there?

[Only because he didn't see how the other guy performed this trick.]

[It could be both! It's not both, but it could be!]

Nah, nothing like that. It's more like--

[Noctis lets go of the sword. It disappears from the wall in a smattering of blue, crystalline looking light, before reappearing in Noctis' hand. He throws the sword towards the ground, and he himself disappears in that same light, before reappearing at the sword.]

[Ren will quietly observe Noctis upon finding him, not really drawing attention to himself. And, upon Noctis completing a catch, he'll finally say something.]

That was a big one.

[The voice surprises him - how long has he been there? Why didn't he notice?

(Were his trainers right about him not paying enough attention?)]

Uh - [Quick, Noct, think of something!] Yeah, biggest one I've caught so far.

[Nailed it.]

You an enthusiast? I don't think I've ever seen someone land a fish that size.

You could say that. It's one of the safer things to do back home.

I see. How do the fish here compare to back where you're from?

They're a lot smaller. [And way less likely to bite someone's face off.] Not that that's a bad thing.

How big are they where you're from?

Depends, but a lot of them get to be bigger than people.

[In contrast, training is one of the few things Keith's been consistently diligent about since coming to Soleil. He enters the training grounds with a katana-like blade in his hands. A discerning eye would be able to tell that there's more to this weapon than being just an ordinary sword, though from a distance it may not be obvious.

What's a little more obvious, at least from Keith's perspective, is that there's some random dude he's never seen before apparently hanging out on the ceiling. Raising an eyebrow, Keith calls up to him.]

You stuck or something?

[sleepybitch]

Just... [He shouldn't say it. He really shouldn't.] ...Hanging around.

[That's so bad. Noctis hates himself, just a little bit, but distantly he feels like his adviser would be proud. (Not that he's here, but it's the thought that counts.)

He does take this as a cue to drop, finally, managing to stick the landing.]

[The improvement of the weather does make it more enjoyable to train outdoors, as Seiji prefers. He is surprised to find someone else with a larger sword, but pleasantly so. He trains for combating opponents with a variety of weapons, but few use the swords more comparable in size to his own.]

Greetings. I hope I am not intruding.

[Noctis pauses once he realizes he's not alone, releasing the sword. It disappears in what look like glimmers of blue crystals, leaving him just standing there.]

Oh, uh - No, not at all.

[He scratches the bridge of his nose.]

You looking to train...?

[He can dispel his weapon so easily. Clearly he has a lot of skill and training.]

I was admiring your blade. I hope that is not too...out of bounds. [Seiji did not want to over step himself or make him uncomfortable.]

Larger swords are not as common among my friends, so it is pleasant surprise to see one in use.

[Skill, yes. Training? It's up for debate, but he'd say he's had a lot.]

Oh, nah, it's alright. [He's not used to this, but it's not weird or awkward.]

I'm guessing most people go for more "reasonable" weapons?

[He says that like someone who's listened in on more than a few arguments over weaponry.]

[Seiji has played witness to many of those arguments himself.]

That would depend on your view on "reasonable." I would think people without experiences with the supernatural or mystical would not care for some of the weapons we choose to use. I was part of a team of hunters for some time and our choices of tools were...varied.

Bigger the sword, bigger the thing you can bring down.

[He...might have heard that used to defend the choice in greatsword. A few times.]

Most people I've run into have a different idea of what's the best way to bring down a daemon or beast, and they're all right.

[He gives a soft chuckle there in commiseration.]

I would agree there, for the most part. When it becomes too unwieldy, then it no longer functions well enough for it's purpose. [Seiji gives a little smile then.] Yet...there is a far range of swords before I believe that is possible.

Would you be adverse to a spar?
