Ocean's Six (Mission)

WHAT: Financing the academy the Robin Hood way. Sort of.
WARNINGS: None yet, unless you count some potential facepalm-worthy moments.

The Vegas strip is bustling tonight, as it is every night, and the presence of a handful of slightly younger participants among the crowd is bound to go unnoticed. With ten grand allotted to each and armed with the knowledge of where each spin of the wheel will land (if they can remember it all) the kids are set to rake in a hefty sum for the financial benefit of their school. If they don't muck everything up, anyway.

Mello's expectations for this mission aren't very high, which at least means it shouldn't take much more than mild success to placate him. (Impressing him is an entirely different matter.) Why anyone would trust these kids with that much money in Vegas, whether they know the winning numbers or not, is beyond him. He thinks they'll be lucky not to end up in the red with him having to bail at least half of them out of jail.

Directing them is out of the question, as they have to keep a low profile, but he'll be around. Even if it doesn't look like hes watching, he will be. He also might Know A Guy with camera access. But students can feel free to get complacent, as for the most part he'll just be hanging out near a claw machine full of jewelry and stacks of bills, occasionally giving it a go. Everyone's been given strict instructions to keep track of what machines they used and their overall earnings. He'll be expecting a report at the end of the night.

Outside The Casino

[He may have gone a bit overboard with trying to make himself look older; namely a fake mustache and thick-framed tortoiseshell glasses. Pretty obvious disguise choices, but Toki figures he's going to fail spectacularly in one way or another and never be allowed to go on a mission again. He may as well have fun with it. He's 97% sure he remembers all the roulette numbers; and beyond that, they weren't really given much direction and he has no plan.

He pulls a black bottle out of his pocket. Removing the cork, he resists the temptation to smell it, because then he'd probably never drink it. He downs its contents in one go, as he was instructed to drink it quickly. Blue Devil Liquor, Toki decides, is absolutely disgusting. It's thick and viscous; like drinking a bottle of oil that tastes how he imagines a combination of rotting meat and lighter fluid might. It's very potent and kind of burns. He nearly vomits it right back up on the sidewalk... and this is about the extent of his preparation for this mission.]

Say something in English and let me see if this works.

[ Somehow, it's exciting being back in the United States, even as far away as it is from where he used to live— Las Vegas couldn't be any more different, with its bright lights and loud noises, the crowd that makes Kano stick close to the other students in his group as he swaps between staring up and up and up at all the impossibly tall buildings, and running to catch up with everybody else. Holy shit? Holy fucking shit. It's downright terrifying being out in a bustling city like this, but at the same time, it's exciting; he's got half a mind to just take his 10k and go out and play, who cares about this mission. ]

Ohh, look! A street performer! You know, I'd bet I can make a lot just doing magic tricks out here...

[ The gains would be small and slow, but at least the net can only be positive. Not unlike the rest of their night. ]

ii. casinos (in disguise)

Hm, hm~ [ With illusionary magic, Kano's able to disguise himself however he wants- everything from his appearance to his voice to the little nametag on his (ample...) chest that designates "her" as one of the croupiers at the gambling table. "She" might have had to... take out... the croupier originally stationed here, but that's not something anybody needs to concern themselves with at the moment. The important thing is that "she" can control everything that goes on at this table, namely the roulette wheel at "her" side, calling out to the other students "she" recognizes from the group. ] You there! This might be your lucky day! Won't you try your hand at the Wheel of Fortune?

iii. around the streets... again
[ Going around masquerading as an adult has been interesting, trying his hand at the tables and raking in the cash- it just got a little creepy when other adults tried to approach him, and the cigarette smoke's getting to his head a little and making him feel nauseated, so he throws down the rest of his money, hits a jackpot, and gets escorted off the premises under the threat of investigation.

It's fine!! It's totally fine. His pockets are full and he has no idea what time they're supposed to meet up again, but it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him to be here, so it's fine if he acts like a tourist once in a while, taking his phone out and snapping pictures of absolutely everything so he can spam Ellie with it later and make her wish she'd gone with him, buying those little cups of ice cream with the wooden sticks that make your tongue feel dry and having the shopkeeper squint at him a little for trying to exchange a hundred dollar bill, asking anybody who happens to look his way about the tigers- what happened to the tigers? he wants to see the tigers. ]

Ugh...

[ Rather than English, "ugh" is the universal language for "That's disgusting, I can't believe you actually drank that. How does it taste?" It's gross enough just watching Toki ingest the thing, let alone be the one to drink it, but color him intrigued.

Alright, time to put this to the test! Loud and clear: ]

[He is obviously an adult and will have no problems inside the casino, definitely not.]

[He has had surprisingly good luck on the mission thus far, and his pockets are full of chips. It's unexpected and he's a bit too excited about it, which results in overdoing absolutely everything.]

It is indeed my lucky day, Madam~! The Wheel of Fortune has already turned in my favor, just to be in the presence of a magnificently elegant woman~!

[Toki approaches the table and sets a stack of $100 chips on Red 14.]

My luck is sure to hold out with an angel watching over the table~!

[ A: Roulette ]

[ Maple's already upped what she has through slot machines, and has made her way to the roulette tables as advised. She's mostly silent here, for once, just placing small bets and raking in cash. Sometimes even tossing out small sums where she knows she'll lose, just to keep up the act.

Holy shit, is she actually competent? But... ] Man, this is boring... how can I spice things up? [ Please, no. ]


[ B: Poker ]

[ Oh. Oh no, she's taking it up a notch. ]

I'll raise. Exchange one. [ Tosses one card back on the table. ] Any of you chickens want to test my luck? Fufufu... Bring! It! ON!!

[ She's amassed winnings all right, but at a poker table, taking it from other players, she's drawing a lot more attention. Not to mention her game involves talking up herself, trying to intimidate opponents....

Somebody rescue her from herself, before security arrives. ]

[ For all Kano knows, Toki had been able to understand English this entire time, never mind the auto-translator running in the background to help him through conversations. ]

What's that you drank? It looks su~per gross! Haha, it was disgusting watching you drink it!! What's it supposed to do?

A smooth talker! [ What the courier gives him is a smirk, though, leaning "her" elbows on the table and giving him a look. The look is an unvoiced "If this were really my job, I would wring you dry of all the money you have, the couriers aren't on your side." But it's roulette! For all the other players crowded on the table, it's a game of chance where neither player nor courier have any better luck than the other, where neither skill nor experience can guarantee a win. But also I don't know how to play roulette so I'm just going to handwave most of this. Kano spins the wheel, overlaying his illusion over it... and it's a complete loss! Hand over those chips, bud, they're going into Kano's pockets and not the table. ] Ooh, too bad! But luck takes a little time to warm up, so what do you say about trying your hand again? The larger the pot, the greater the payout in the end, after all.

[It was super gross, but Toki can't taste it anymore, so that's a plus. He's now trying the speaking part and hey, English.]

It's called Blue Devil Liquor~! I got it from Professor White Chain! You're supposed to be able to speak and understand all languages for three days, and then there's horns and a vomit devil, but that can be dealt with later~!

[Oh shit. That's the first one he'd missed. He doesn't have too much time to think over the numbers again; bets had to be placed quickly to avoid suspicion. If he goes with the next number on his mental list, it would screw up everything else in succession. It's probably a slight mishap, and it's just a little off.]

Can't win them all~! Send a little more luck my way this time, beautiful~!

[There goes another stack of chips, on Red 16 this time.]

[ He can't believe that White Chain of all people, who gets on Kano's case about missing class, gave Toki alcohol to chug in the middle of Vegas streets. And apparently there's going to be something about horns! And a vomit devil! wtf that's so gross ]

Wait, wait, wait- What's this about a vomit devil?! Leave that in Vegas! Don't bring it back with us!!

That's the spirit! Don't lose hope, boy! [ Kano gives the wheel a spin, aaaaaannd it lands on a fail. He takes Toki's stack of chips. ] It's really too bad... But the night is still young! For this round only, I'll match all offers made, so everybody, step right up and place your bets! [ You have to lose to win, Toki, so sorry but Kano's going to use you like this. Wear him down a little, encourage others to play until they have a full table and high bets, and drop the jackpot all at once. No need for numbers! Surely this'll take a load off Toki's shoulders. ]

[Toki finds White Chain delightful and easy to talk to; he doesn't skip her classes because he likes her.]

I have to bring it back! You don't vomit up the devil until day three~! I'm supposed to give it back to her, but if it's cute I may keep it as a pet~!

[ There are so many thing wrong with this ]

It's inside you right now?! Isn't that bad!!?! Forget the mission, we need to cut you up right away and get it out!! I'm going to go find scissors! Don't move from here!

[Oh my god. He must have skipped a table and should have gone to the next number on the list. But that number would have been for the first spin, right? There's twelve more numbers on the list! By spending too much time at this table, he's probably already missed the time frame for the winning numbers at the rest of the tables. Time to panic.]

Let's make this interesting~!

[Toki slides over an impressive stack of chips, definitely wagering more than he should. He places them on black. No point in even trying numbers now.]

[It might be, but he's choosing to believe it's not.]

I think it's made from the devil! So it's like fermented devil, and it takes the devil three days to congeal or reform or something and then maybe it just tries to claw it's way out~!

[ "Let's make this interesting!!" Toki says as he basically gives up and goes for the lowest payout. Right after Kano said he'd double the pot too, it'll be difficult to split the winnings so that the majority of the money doesn't go to everybody else. Alright alright alright... The ball clicks and clacks as it slows to a stop... Kano makes sure it lands on black, just so Toki isn't completely wiped out, but much of the money disappears amongst the other players. Well. Toki's numbers would work now, but the payout sure isn't going to be as high. ] Boy... Perhaps you should try your luck at another table?

[ FERMENTED DEVIL......

Kano claps his hands on Toki's shoulders. ]

I'm sorry. But I cannot let you live.

[Why would he? He'd won some money back.]

On the contrary, I feel a lucky streak has just begun~!

[Back to the list. Another sizeable stack of chips, for Black 29.]

Kill me after the mission, then!

[He wants to at least see all the casino-y things before he dies.]

[ That's fair and Kano can't argue against it; if he wanted to play his hand at some get-rich scheme, Toki needed to be in on the plan in the first place so he doesn't deviate and do something stupid like betting on colors. They should have planned something together from the start, right? That's the logical thing to do. Anybody else would have done that, but nope. The ball lands on Black 29. If you want a lucky streak, you'll get it. In the end, Toki will draw suspicion no matter what, so the best plan would be to win as much money as quickly as possible, get in and out before security comes and asks who the hell this woman is, this isn't the courier who's assigned to this table. ]

Alright!! I will respect your last request. You have two days to live. After that, I'm taking you down, so enjoy your last few hours in this world.

[Yes! Okay, he was back on track. He collects his winnings and flashes a smile at her.]

I knew you'd be a good luck charm~! Though now, I must journey on, never to lay eyes upon your stunning visage again~! A bittersweet parting!

[And he's off to the next table to fail with the now out-of-order number sequence.]
