Who: Hiccup, Kohaku, Ren, Toki, Gunvolt, Yuya
What: The hunt is on for an Outlands creature getting too close to human territory
When: May 8
Where: Bialowezia Forest
Warnings: idk normal violence, probably none.
The helicopters will leave in the early afternoon with the students and Hiccup, and after the trek from the landing spot to the forest will arrive a few hours after they started. There's still plenty of light, though the heavy canopy of the trees sheilds much of it.
Their mission is simple and direct. A behemoth once under Zarc's control. It's one of many creatures in his army that, after his death, had run off to wander aimlessly with newfound freedom where they were left. While once deep in the forest, the behemoth has recently been making strides west towards human territory. It's too dangerous to be left alone, so Daybreak is sending a force to handle it before it causes any significant loss of life.
Under Hiccups guidance, the team will have a few days to deal with the behemoth.
They can simply kill it. Its skin is difficult to penetrate, due to the tough hide and magma-like quality of its innards that immediately hardens around wounds. There's also the colossal size to contend with, and Outlands armor around its head and shoulders that deflects magic. Its biggest weakness is down the throat, where its inner body is weak to poison, magic, and piercing and cannot recover the same way as its skin. Otherwise, wards are recommended to restrain it. It's also weak to holy and anti-daemonic abilities.
They can try to banish it back to the Outlands. Warding and teleportation circles that will work to send it away are easily found even in the school's library. The biggest issue will be preparation: the circles need to be drawn large enough to actually surround the creature for the banishment to work. That means needing to take more time with preparation and keeping the behemoth from finding the group until it's finished.
They can also try to tame it. It can be forcibly subjugated into servitude, not unlike the familiar. This takes incredible magical power and stamina, and for a creature at its size will be beyond any individual student. Alternatively, they can try the humane route. It's more animal than evil, although that doesn't mean to underestimate the danger of it. Like any wild animal, it can lash out and be unpredictable without the ability to reason with it. The behemoth comes from a class of creatures that are usually in family packs, however, so continued isolation is unnatural for them. They're carnivorous and usually only hunt for food when they aren't bound to another creature's will, and sleep long hours.
Once the behemoth is dealt with and injuries are stabilized, students will be flown back to campus.

Okay everybody. I know the last thing you want to do is hear me go over all this again, but what we're about to do is excessively dangerous. I need to make sure you're all on the same page. Just because we have drakes on our side isn't an excuse to be sloppy.
[Toothless rumbles in agreement. He's not doing all the work for you.]
Kohaku, Gunvolt? You'll be with Toothless and me. Our job is to track the behemoth down and drive it here. Yuya, Toki, and Ren? Your job is to put together the banishment circle so we can send it to the Hidden World. My village will work on taming it and figuring out where it came from.
All that said, if things go wrong and we have to kill it? We will. I don't want to, I'd really rather this work out as planned, but our safety's the first priority.
If anybody has any questions, now's the time to ask them.

[The boy takes an opportunity to look over his Dart Leader, and then finally load a magazine of darts into it.]
How do we want to get its attention when we find it? Seems like outrunning it might be tough, based on its size.
no subject
[Which they'll have to draw in the dirt because they can't exactly leave permanent remains of a banishing circle lying around. Or rather, Toki will.
Odd-Eyes rumbles in response. Yuya unfolds the drawing of it he's been holding, glancing around for Toki and Ren.]

[He does have a question, but he's going to ask Yuya instead. He waves at Odd-Eyes as he approaches to look at Yuya's drawing.]
So... how exact does this actually have to be!?
no subject
[At least that's his understanding of how this is going to work.]
Do you know if the behemoth has armor on the undersides of its feet?
no subject
[Kohaku nodded, but looked a little distracted. It wasn't that she wasn't paying attention. She absolutely was! It's just that she was adjusting the weird armor she'd strapped to her right arm, and also adjusting her senses of hearing and smell so as to pick up everything they could. She wouldn't track it, so much as just listen for it. Already, the conversation here was getting almost uncomfortably loud.]

[Hiccup was long used to plans going completely off the rails.]
If we need to outrun it, Toothless can carry all three of us.
As for armor on the undersides of the feet? I doubt it. Anything like that would've thrown off its natural gait.
There's still going to be ridiculously tough hide to deal with, but given how long it's been out here it probably pulled most of it's armor anyways. Any head and shoulder armor might still be there though, since that'd be harder to get off.

I'll have time to fix it if I forget something, right!? And there's so many trees! What if it can't be exact because there's a tree in the way and it changes the shape of one of the lines because I have to go around it!? Do you want me to knock the tree down!? I don't think I can do that, but I may be able to burn it!? Would that work!?
[He holds up his hands and tiny sparks of lightning crackle from the gloves Gunvolt modified for him.]
no subject
Easy, Toki. Don't want those going full live-wire before you're ready to use them.
[Maybe modding those gloves for him wasn't the best call, but at least he had a stronger way to defend himself too. Gunvolt shrugged, and then turned and nodded to Hiccup's instructions. That all seemed reasonable to him, so he'd have to not stray far from the group or Toothless in the event of a quick escape being called for. Sure, he was quicker on his feet than your average person thanks to both training and his powers, but that would only work so well against something that big.]
If nothing else boss, I modified my gun to better pierce through armor recently. I'll need a little time to charge up each shot, but it should get through. As long as it's not immune to lightning, I can embed a dart into it and give it a good shock to get its attention, if it comes to that.
[He took a moment to look down at his pistol, turning it over in his hand once before holstering it for the time being.]
...Hopefully it won't.

My sword is made of daemon horn; It can cut most stuff if I swing it hard enough. Hopefully it won't come to that since I'd basically need to climb on its back to do it and fuck that.
I should be able to hear it before we get anywhere near it, unless it's like hibernating or something. AND on a related note I'd appreciate it if we could all talk a little quietly until we find the thing?
no subject
[So yes, Toki, please double-check your work.]
no subject
[It's almost a whisper. He's trying to be helpful and not make Kohaku's ears bleed.]
I'll get it right, don't worry.
[He's intending to do the best he can here, both for Yuya and because it's his first field mission with actual danger. There weren't any monsters in the casino.]
no subject
[Ren's natural speaking voice is on the quiet side. He looks at the rest of them and then at Hiccup, waiting for anyone to respond to his next question.]
I can use my calming power on anyone right now to help them get over their nerves if they need to.
NPCs (OTA)
It's two men, one with a rune-inscribed rifle slung over his shoulder. The second one doesn't look completely human, probably with some mixed Outlands heritage that accounts for his strangely wide-eyed stare and large ears. He looks alert, speaking up first.] I knew there was someone else here!
Re: NPCs (OTA)
Hey there. I'm Professor Haddock. We're from Daybreak Academy.

She glanced at the outlander, curious. He looked like he might have similar powers to her.]

Taking a field trip? You picked a helluva time to be here. Should probably turn back.

The behemoth, to be exact. We're here to take care of it before it manages to leave the woods.
[True, Hiccup meant actually taking care of it, rather than killing it, but he wanted to see how these two reacted first.]
no subject
[There is exactly one adult among them and it's Hiccup.] Hey, we're looking for it too! Gotta clean up all of Zarc's mess now that he's gone.
no subject
Besides, we don't actually want to fight it. We're trying to banish it
no subject
When all taken together, it wasn't a flawless lie detector, but it was pretty good at letting her know if someone wasn't being entirely on the level.]

In less than a second, he's gone from the group to behind the men to read the runes on the rifle, and back. Hopefully, he made it back in time that no one saw anything. He immediately regrets this action, because what if they did? What if he seemed to like blink out of existence or flicker or teleport or something? Oh well. It's done.
He casually leans against a tree and slides down until he's sitting; angling his hand away from the men while he draws the runes he saw into the dirt. He doesn't know what they mean, but maybe someone will. Sorry about the scratching noise, Kohaku.]
no subject
It's not going to go into any banishment circle cleanly, I can tell you that. Where are you going to send it?
no subject
Wouldn't be the first time.
[Never a behemoth specifically, but giant magma monsters were their stock-in-trade.]
no subject
[The Outlander blinks rapidly.] Hey, we would team up! You don't look like you have enough muscle anyway.

[Plus, it just made more sense to keep the two unknowns with them instead of the pair potentially popping up out of nowhere and surprising the group at the worst possible time.]
As long as you're willing to listen to me when I tell you to do something. No offense meant, but between my students and the gigantic wild animal that I'm trying to get put of here with as few injuries as possible to both? We can't really afford to have anybody do anything crazier than what we're already doing.

[She looked at Hiccup, speaking quietly but assuming the two hunters would overhear her.]
