Who: Adelaide & You!
When: June
Where: Around campus & Soleil
What: Recovering from the stress of May, prom preparation, and a birthday!
Warnings: Potential references to the Kagerou plot (so death, injury, etc), but that should be about it.
early june;
[May was...a lot. More than she was expecting it to be. She was kind of expecting that after things calmed down, they would stay calm. But nope! First she tries to kill Rex, and then…
She dies. And it’s hard to forget dying, especially when it’s your second time giving it a go. Sure, the first time didn’t stick, but...the second time did. Well. More than the first time, anyways. Which isn’t super reassuring, and she spends her days trying to forget it. She doesn’t have the time to get wrapped up in everything that’s weighing her down. There’s still a world to save.
So what she does is she throws herself into everything that she possibly can. She can be found in the Mythril Cage, training as hard as she possibly can. She tries out something different every time she goes - some days she’ll try a sword, some days a spear. She seems to want to learn how to use as many weapons as possible. Other days she can be found in the library with a stack of books, diligently taking notes.
But every night she can be found running across campus. There’s no Daybreak track team, but she still finds it comforting. And she’s trying to push herself even harder, find out her limits, so don’t be surprised if you get passed by something inhumanly fast.]
june 13th;
[June 13th arrives with very little fanfare. Adelaide didn’t think to make a big deal out of her birthday, so it arrives and she’s sure nobody knows the significance of the day.
Which of course means she wakes up to a text from a familiar number, and is shocked! But also maybe a little pleased. That day, Adelaide can be found in Soleil with a pale, well-dressed man nobody’s ever met before. He meets her at the Inn of Atropos, and then takes her around Soleil.
Later in the day, he’s carrying various shopping bags. And if they spot anyone in the Daybreak uniform, or if Adelaide seems to recognize someone passing by, the odd man gives them a nod and a smile.]
Good day to you.
[At least this stranger has decent manners...]
mid-june;
[Prom is approaching, which means it’s extra time to stop being miserable and start...planning? She guesses? She didn’t go to prom at her high school, but...now it seems extra silly to not go. There are going to be duels. She doesn’t think she’s gonna sign up for them, but…
She still wants to see. And she wants to have a good time! So she does what anyone else would do and heads to town to shop.]
Uuuuuugh…. [And shopping is not going so well, it seems.] This is a nightmare.
closed to rex;
[Knock knock, Rex. It’s Adelaide. She’s not sure where to go to find him, exactly? She would try the van, but he wants to keep that a secret, so she makes her way to the Forge in the hopes that she’ll find him.
And luckily for her, he hasn’t been banned as far as we know, and he’s there now! Convenient!]
Rex! Hey! I’ve been looking for you.
[She has a bag in her hands, even if giving it to him isn’t her prime directive.]
I hope you’re not too busy…
wildcard;
[If you want to do anything with Adelaide this month, bring it to me! Or if you want me to whip something up, feel free to pop over to
daintily or on Discord!]

Also, he's wearing snazzy eye protection but also, despite the heat of the anvil, his coat. ]
Oh, hello.
[ It's a small surprise- typically if people want to find him, they have to contact him and arrange one. He's going to wonder if Adelaide has some sort of connection with him due to the semi-frequent feedings.
His workbench is covered in a mass of circuits and he has two halves of a helmet, somewhat motorcycle style, which they're clearly meant to slot into. And gaps in the top of said helmet halves, into which weasel ear shaped devices will be fitted soon. It's for Mav. ]
Nothing I cannot split my focus on- I'll always have time for you.
no subject
Can I put this down?
[She lifts the bag. She doesn't want to just put it on the bench - the helmet he's looking on looks complex, and she doesn't want to put production back because setting down the bag knocked something out of place or anything like that. She's considerate!
Also, she doesn't exactly buy that Rex will always have time for her, but she appreciates that he's not too busy right now.]
I just wanted to check up on you, see if things were going okay.
[Read: Make sure you're taking care of yourself.]
no subject
[ The helmet pieces themselves aren't ready to have anything shoved into them yet, so he scoops them up and pops them under the bench. The circuitry he's careful not to jostle and he makes sure his soldering iron is properly in the rest before he gestures to th empty space. ]
I'm fine. Yourself?
[ 'I'm fine' would be his answer at any time except when it was terribly obvious it wasn't true, like if he was missing a limb, so it probably doesn't mean much. ]
no subject
This is for you, obviously.
[Inside the bag, if Rex decides to look, are a handful of biscuits wrapped in a towel, short bread cookies in a baggie, and a few carefully wrapped cheese tarts.]
And I'm doing okay! It's a pretty nice day outside.
[Which is the truth. Adelaide is feeling pretty good today, which is a welcome change from earlier. She's managed to pick up the pieces, and now she's just trying to make sure things stay pretty level.]

Mythril Cage
He practiced what seems to be a form of marital arts involving grapples, kicks and using that cane as mix of striking and tripping up, keeping out of her way. Once they both break their training, he nods in acknowledgment to her, leaning his weight on his cane]
Getting used to that weapon?
no subject
[She looks over at him, taking in the cane.]
Though maybe that's not as smart as keeping to the same weapon. [She says it with a soft laugh.]
no subject
[He hms softly, as if actually going over something in his mind]
I do think specializing in one is the best, while having some familiarity with other forms is good for if you find yourself unarmed and needing to grab whatever is lying around... ah, curious about my cane?

Early June, nighttime running
It's also a school that has a way of making him get utterly and completely lost in the library.
When Adelaide comes rushing in from another side, he's peacefully hovering 50cm above ground, carrying a few books back in the direction of dorm. The speed is distracting though. ]
Whoa, training for Olympics?
no subject
Not anymore. [That...probably doesn't make any sense.] I used to run track, but then I developed super speed. Not really fair to compete anymore, you know?
[It both is and isn't the truth. She did develop faster than human speed, but she's hoping he takes it to mean she's a Candle instead of the truth. It's not quite the same lie she told Kohaku, but...
It's close enough.]
But now there's Nightfall to train for...
no subject
Huh.... That's an oddly depressing outlook on gaining a superpower. Maybe there's superspeed-inclusive competitions in some secret society.
I do feel kind of stupid for assuming you were just this fast normally for a second. [ He smiles. It's probably a compliment that he hadn't put that past her! ]

shopping
A nightmare? What's happened?
no subject
It's not a big deal! It's just...a lot of these dresses are too short.
[Adelaide doesn't even think she's that tall! Sure, she's just over six feet, but look at Rex! He's a giant and he's got clothes for himself!]

Library
Wow! That's a lot of books you have! You must be really smart!
no subject
I wish that was the case. I'd probably need less books then.
no subject
That doesn't seem right..
[Much like her words, her face is pretty skeptical of what she's just been told.]
Reading more books means you gain more knowledge! And when you gain a lot of knowledge, you get to say stuff like "Fool! I read a hundred books every day! You can't possibly hope to compete with me!" I don't know about you, but that sounds pretty smart to Desco!

shopping
... That's not keeping her from browsing anyway, out of curiosity. She pauses when she hears a familiar voice, and after she looks around for the source, she lets out a soft "ah!" when she spots Adelaide. The shorter girl hurries over.]
Having a difficult time there?
no subject
Yeah...nothing really seems to be working out. All the cute dresses are really short, or I can't find them in my size...I shouldn't have waited so long to start shopping.

Campus, running
It's a pleasant evening for a run, isn't it?
no subject
It's a pretty solid night.
[She cocks her head at him. She doesn't recognize him, but that doesn't mean anything. There's a lot of people she doesn't know.]
I don't think I've seen you before.

13th
Oh... hey!
[ And, after waving to the man, as well: ]
'Sup?
no subject
Hey!
[The man gives a nod in greeting, and Adelaide laughs sheepishly.]
Not much, not much. Just showing Richard the town. He's never been to Soleil before.
[...And he wanted to celebrate her birthday, but she's not going to bring that up.]
no subject
It's a pretty nice place - waaaaay different than Manhattan and Tokyo, too.
[ Ryuji... why you gotta say it like that. Manhattan and Tokyo aren't even in the same country??? ]
