Heaven or Hell, Let's rock the festival!
Who Ky Kiske, students in his class, other faculty and class that decided to tag along
What A weekend trip to the largest medieval faire in France, supposedly a class field trip, but really a reward for doing well in class.
Where Provins, France
When Second weekend of June
Warnings: maybe alcohol mentions, medieval faire nonsense
It was planned in advanced – and only two hours by bus from Soliel, though when he brought up his trip during previous meetings, Ky didn’t expect so many volunteers to chaperone, or to decide it’s a good idea for their class. The trip was announced ahead of time, and there was encouragement to dress period-appropriate, but wasn’t mandatory – so everyone was given time to pack and procure outfits if they wish.
The actual fair was loud and colorful, with people dressed up from lavish nobles, to dirt farmers, and plenty of knights sweltering in the June heat. There were plenty of steampunk-style costumes, so accuracy wasn’t always sought after. And for those who wanted a costume but couldn’t get one, there are rentals.
The smell of food fills the air along with lutes and the shouts. Smiths, weavers, and bakers show off their crafts, and plenty of goods were for sale. And for the more daring, there were archery tournaments (and about fifty robin hoods) and some “Grand melees” with foam weapons, though Ky will caution those to hold back if they choose to enter, after all most of their opponents are just hobbyists.
When the festival closes for the night, everyone is gathered into a medieval-style in, though the food is much more suited towards modern palettes, and there are two students to a room, though the chaperones prefer for students to stay in the night, it might be a good time to explore one’s surroundings on their own, long as they return in the morning.

cw: alcohol in prompt c
[Most students have gotten used to him either in partial armor while in combat class, or slacks with a button up shirt, but once they arrived he changed in his room to a regal blue robe with white and silver trim, and a sword stuck to his brocade belt. His currently midback-length hair is worn loose for once.]
What do you think? This is was actually what I used to wear - though none of my clothes were this vivid, such dyes were usually reserved for royalty.
[And if anyone else is in costume, he'll help with them wearing it correctly, or even getting it on when it comes to some of the more elaborate headpieces]
B - it's just routine
[While he's been content mostly to linger around, keeping his eyes on the students and buying delicious but overpriced food when he notices a display of ladders, false horses, and the like near two closely put together walls. His eyes brighten, and quickly he went back to the inn, returning in full plate. As the workers explain how knights would train themselves, and offering people to try out.
Ky quickly drew a crowd when he put himself between the walls, and shimmied up against it, gaining quite some good distance up - bracing himself against the walls as he gets near the top, being quite visible. Then a few moments passed, he slowly climbs his way back down, laughing and slightly breathless, grinning proudly]
C - In the boozer,you’re a loser CW: Alcohol
[In the evening when most of the kids should be asleep, he's downstairs in the common room, nursing a stein of mead, writing down something quick, quiet and contemplative. He leans back, he thought it'd be fun, and it is, but once the hustle and bustle of the fair went - it actually made him feel rather homesick for a life he no longer has. Ky sighs heavily, and tries to push it aside.
No use dwelling on what can't be changed]
D - Wild card!
[Make up your own prompt, just throw in whatever]
c!
He settles down to Ky with his own stein of mead, and gives him a sympathetic look.]
Was it weird? Seeing everything?
no subject
Were my thoughts that obvious?
[A wry smile appears on his face as he leans fully into his seat]
I figured it would be fun to get a little reminder, but I'm surprised by my reaction.
no subject
Little bit. Probably not to everyone, but...
[He takes a sip, shaking his head.]
You weren't expecting it to be, what, so...not like what you remembered?

He's not ill-mannered enough to try and catch a glimpse at Ky's writing. That's his business. ]
Something on your mind, Mr Kiske?

Ah-! Gehring... God, you startled me.
[Slowly, he shook his head, settling himself before he speaks]
I suppose I do.

A.
Nice, makes you look like a real fashion icon.
[Jail herself is dressed relatively simply- boots, trousers, short-sleeved shirt, sturdy gloves, and a blacksmith's apron. They're apparently letting her help out at the weapons tents. This is... probably fine.]
[Historical accuracy might be stretched a bit since she hasn't taken off the gas mask, but there's only so much you can do.]
no subject
So I heard you're working with the weapons? I didn't know you had familiarity with traditional techniques.

[Hiccup nods to him as he walks in, carrying some kind of stuffed toy dragon under his arms.]
You okay over there?

Always feeling more comfortable with his face hidden and finding himself enjoying the atmosphere more than he thought, gets a little into character when appropriate.
He can be found entering the melees, in which he not only holds back but often allows someone who plays up a heroic role to defeat him in an appropriately dramatic fashion- purely to ensure he doesn't harm someone, obviously.
Or, as he wanders, the attention he garners from children fascinates him right back- they seem to be following him and scatter when he turns his attention to them at first. He starts to play to it and the natural inclination to games children have soon have them pick up on it too- it's something of a game of Red Light / Green Light, as they try to get closer without notice and the way he sends them scattering. Now and then he lets out his genuine laugh and it's terrifying.
Being Rex, he doesn't sleep the night. His assigned roommate is lucky, in that they get it to themselves as he explores. He's sure no one will mind that he decides to practice his archery in the middle of the night without asking. It turns out having really long arms helps a lot and he's picking it up quite quickly.
The second day he forgoes the armour- it works and he has no more need to test it. Instead, he can be found at the various crafting demonstrations. You never know- always something to learn.

Rex might not notice the cat at first, drawn by the sounds of a person, but he'll definitely notice it when it steps up next to him and starts purring. Adelaide doesn't mean to do it, but...she's happy and feels safe when Rex is around, and it's not like she has a whole lot of ways to verbalize as a cat.
no subject
A cat, making a sound distinctly unfamiliar to him, causes him to start lightly just as he looses an arrow. Thankfully there's no one around to get hit by the thing.
Rex doesn't speak to animals much, unless they understand speech, so he just spends a while looking down and staring before silently reaching into his coat and retrieving a small strip of jerky, which he tosses beside her. It's almost an automatic reflex of his to feed animals when no one is around.
But he doesn't know how to pet cats because they all hate him, so. He just stares.

[Hieke might not have been alive during the periods of time this faire is trying to recreate, but he can appreciate an aesthetic. The armor he digs up is surprisingly much for Hieke. He foregoes the hat and helm, but it's still a lot. It's dramatically worn and battle damaged - with some stains that look rather convincingly like blood that still hasn't been washed out.
Is it real? Who knows. All Hieke knows is that he stands out, apparently enough that other people are asking to take pictures with him and asking him how he made it. He looks visibly flustered with each person that asks, and could probably use some rescuing.]
It's just, you know, a hobby!
[He laughs, awkward.
He definitely needs some rescuing.]
b; at night
[Once Hieke's set the armor away and is back in his normal, every day combination of sweaters and leggings, he finds a cozy spot in the inn to relax. Being around so many humans at once who don't know who and what he is was surprisingly exhausting. He'd like to think he's getting better at faking humanity, but he just couldn't say.
Whenever he sees a student or faculty member pass by, he gives them a courteous nod in greeting and offers to the spot open next to him.]
You're free to sit, if you want.
c; day two
[Hieke debates for a moment if he wants to wear the armor again, before shrugging and dawning it. This day he's expecting the comments about it from amazed humans, and handles it much better this time. He also decides to spend this day actually enjoying the faire instead of being stressed out about it. He makes his rounds in the melee and does surprisingly well in the archery tournament, but he spends a lot of time enjoying the crafting demonstrations.
And the food.
This is a rare chance to see Hieke relaxed and happy, though, so please don't come to him with any sort of terrible injury. Please. Don't be gremlins for one day.]
a. i'm sorry he isn't actually being more helpful
Mistakenly he approaches because he thinks something cool is happening. You know, like a fight or something. His disappointment is very visible on his face when he sees it's just a photo-op. He can tell Hieke seems uncomfortable and should probably... say something.
What the hell do these nerds even like. Hm.]
There's a chainmail sale over there.
rip
Keith, seriously?
Some people do look Keith's way, and then look over in the direction of the supposed chainmail sale and wander off. Some people get the feeling things are just going to get awkward and leave. Some people have gotten what they wanted and wander off to go look at the next cool cosplayer.
Hieke's shoulders droop.]
Well, that was a good try.
[But seriously, a chainmail sale?
He shakes his head, straightening up and giving Keith a once over.]

In turn, Ekkehardt is...a little more laid back himself, as much as he can manage. He's not as tense as he usually is, at least. And he's even dressed for the occasion, albeit with his normal glamour. No skeletons here, no sir. But the hat does shade his face nicely. ]
You look much better than yesterday, Hieke. [ A pause, then: ] I'm glad to see it.
[ And he does mean it. ]

His cheeks go a little pink at that, and he raises a hand to scratch the back of his neck awkwardly.]
I wasn't expecting that much attention. I guess humans - er, people - don't see armor like this every day.

[So Kokoro's costume is a little plain, just a peasant top, long skirt, and a vest with some weird family crest on the back. But she seems to be having fun, wandering the vendors' section with a turkey leg in hand.]
I know it's all for show, but they've done very well, don't you think?
[sord]
[She heeds the call to hold back, but Kokoro's still there, grabbing a foam battleaxe and adding her name to the signup sheet.]
A good turnout. Perhaps it's a good chance to train after all, restraint or not. What think you?
[night]
[Kokoro is easy to find wandering the halls after curfew, a bottle of water in hand that she isn't drinking from. When she hears you, she'll turn around in a flash.]
Who's there?
[...was she about to throw the water, that is not a good weapon.]

He came unprepared and wants to blend in to the fair crowd and also disguise himself from the rest of the Daybreak group, so he rents a costume from the first stall he comes across. It's a very plain dress, a long wig, and a cap. He is determined to enjoy this fair before he gets caught.]
a; - food
[Toki spends more time at the food booths and looking around than he does engaging in any physical activity. Currently, he's carrying some fresh baked rolls, and he's bought too many. The booth girl was attractive, so he'd just kept buying things until they'd finished their conversation. He has no pockets in his dress, or anything to carry the extras in, so he offers them to whoever is close in an awkward attempt at a more medieval dialogue.]
Pardon me~! Might you partake in these round breads~!?
b; - archery
[He watches some of the archery proceedings with vague interest. Toki's more amused at the five Robin Hoods in line to try. Robin #4 misses the target entirely and Toki laughs and points, elbowing a nearby spectator.]
He's so bad! I can totally do better than that!
c; - inn
[If he hasn't been noticed by faculty prior to the evening's close, he can be found lingering around the lobby of the inn, hoping to catch the eye of a student who might be a willing accomplice in his endeavors.]
