Who: Hieke & You
When: July
Where: The infirmary, training grounds, and Soleil.
What: Infirmary catch-all, plus some errands.
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol in the third prompt, but that should be it.
the infirmary;
[The infirmary is noticeably cooler than many parts of the school, as summer really gets underway. This is thanks to runes that Hieke wisely had commissioned and installed that act as air conditioning, keeping the infirmary actually rather chilly. If it’s too cool, students and staff can ask for the temperature to be adjusted, but Hieke seems rather content in there.
(This might be due to his predilection for wearing many layers and his daemonic disposition.)
Some days in July, Hieke can be found at his desk, quietly brewing potion after potion. It seems he’s stocking up, both for the Herald fight and to replenish his stock once the fight is over.]
the training grounds;
[Maybe it’s nostalgia that gets him out there, but...Hieke goes to the Mythril Cage to get in some training. He hasn’t fought anything in a long, long while, but despite that, his movements aren’t rusty.
He goes against a training dummy, enchanted to move and fight back, wielding two long, vicious looking daggers. His movements are fast and fluid - he’s clearly done a lot of this - as he nearly outpaces the dummy.
At one point, he drops the illusion of humanity he holds onto. The transformation is quick - abruptly there are leathery wings sprouting from his back and a long, thin tail that ends in a fork. He has two wavy horns, one noticeably shorter than the other, and deep, red skin covered in freckles. He is undoubtedly a daemon, as if there’s ever been any confusion. Like this he’s even faster, and much more acrobatic in the way he fights.
He manages to behead the dummy, and he stops to watch the head roll across the floor with golden eyes.
Then he realizes he’s not alone, and drops the daggers he’s been holding onto to the floor.]
soleil;
[Hieke doesn’t often go to the city, but every so often he makes the trek out there. It’s a nice place to go to unwind and destress.
This is mainly because of the bars.
Hieke isn’t exactly wasted, though he’s definitely beyond tipsy as he staggers out of the bar. He’s feeling good, though, and he grins and waves if he recognizes anyone from Daybreak.]
Hellooooo!
[Or, alternatively, you were in the bar when Hieke still was, and he gave you a nod of recognition. He’s just out here to have a good time, and not think about the world ending.]
wildcard;
[Feel free to run into Hieke anywhere and everywhere! He’s going to be very busy this month, probably. If you want something in specific, feel free to hit me up at
daintily or in the game’s Discord!]

post-herald battle
[ so. ana, the girl prophesied to die at the hands of the herald, is here. and she's alive and conscious, too. so is james. they're both being held in the same room because unlike a certain pair, they can stand each other's company and get along civilly. james has bandages but the main point of attraction is his arm in a sling; ana's covered in bandages and has a head wrap. visitors are welcome once visiting hours are open, and both james and ana will be available for discussion. ]
B. CLOSED to hieke, james, and ana
[ as hieke works his magic, ana heaves a heavy sigh. she's so tired, so sore, but she's truly grateful for hieke's help. she looks over at james, then to hieke: ]
How bad is it?
C. CLOSED to james
[ once hieke's out of the room and no visitors are around, ana lies down on her bed and looks up at the ceiling. she's at least feeling a little better from earlier, and the world's not spinning nearly as much as it was earlier. but it still hurts. she can't quite formulate her thoughts as well as she'd like. however, the silence is a little uncomfortable, and she doesn't think this is something that can be swept under the table.
quietly, she says: ]
James. I apologize.
C.
[ He's grateful that she protected him. It might have saved his life. But strategically, it was such a bad choices, and if things had been only a little different, James isn't sure he'd have been able to save her. If she'd fallen only at a slightly different angle.... James would never have been able to keep his promise of helping her survive.
That knowledge is haunting. He did it, but the margin of success was way too narrow. A bit of the fear he'd felt out on the field still sits in his bones. ]
no subject
[ she ponders his question for a second. ]
I didn't think on it too hard at the time. I just went for it, because I could. That last bit of water I sent you -- it was all the power I had left. I was not going to save my own hide after you tried your hardest to keep me alive until that point.
Toki said my odds of dying were eighty-percent. I banked on the twenty-percent that I had left, and now we're here.
[ she says it slowly before she pauses. her next statement comes out curiously, not accusatory. ]
Are you upset at me for that?
no subject
You might have saved my life. So I can't really be angry, can I? I still think it was the wrong choice, though. 20 percent... those aren't odds you should really play around with.
no subject
[ she hears what he says though. he's not wrong, and yet... ]
Ultimately, both of us made it out alive. [ she pauses. ] I would do it again if it meant keeping someone else safe. Make no mistake.

A.
So out of nowhere there'll be a flash of blue light and then Keith and his wolf pup stand in the middle of the room with absolutely no warning whatsoever. Judging from the jet black sword that's looking vaguely ominous strapped to the back of his rune armor, he clearly just dropped whatever he was in the middle of doing to show up here.
There are small cuts and minor injuries on his face and body, but nothing that would necessitate a stay at the infirmary. Also he may or may not smell like he spent a couple of hours at a barbeque because his mission may or may not have involved fighting off the undead in a castle made up of rotting flesh and bones by torching things. As you do.]
I swear it better just be a broken arm.
no subject
ana has so many questions, and yeah, he does smell like a barbeque, but you know what. she's too tired for all of these questions, so she just blinks at him, visibly surprised by his arrival. ]
...Hello, Keith.
[ though she...fully expects him to only be here for james, so she'll leave them to their conversation if it's required of her. ]
no subject
Arm, nothing more. I passed out from exhaustion after I got back to the camp, so I'm still in here, but I'm fine.
[ To James' credit, he indeed only has his arm in a sling. Otherwise there are a few bruises over his body, but nothing that looks injured on a level with gravity. ]
no subject
[That one's directed at Ana as Keith looks slightly taken aback. Then looking towards James with a scowl:]
You didn't say you had company.
[Because you literally didn't give him a chance to, Keith, but details schmetails. Scowling slightly at James as he does the up-down glance to check for more injuries, he continues:]
What happened to both of you?
[Cosmo decides to mosey on over towards Ana's side of the room to say hello, looking inquisitively.

A | Ana AND James!
[Oh, that's a relief. He smiles, until his gaze drifts to the bed nearby.] James! Are you okay?
[Like, besides the arm.]
no subject
she gives yuya a wide smile at his proclamation, and she tries her best not to laugh because her body might ache if she does. ]
Hello, Yuya! [ she's very happy to see him, it seems. ] I'm glad to see you're safe as well.
[ she turns to face james. truly, he's more worth hearing out!!! ]
no subject
Arm's broken and I feel like I could sleep for days, but totally fine. I'm just so glad it's over.

[He looks between both of them.] Uh, if you're bedridden, is there anything you need?

[He takes Ana's hand in his, letting out a breath. They're not great injuries, but...
It's not the worst thing he's had to heal, but there's still the fact that they could have died. All of them could have died.]

She's lost a lot of blood on the way.

[ she could be dead, for starters. she closes her eyes as hieke works his magic on her. ]

To her great relief, Ana is alive and Jill gets directed to the room she's in. She knocks faintly and sticks her head in, half afraid to see how bad it is.]
Ana?
no subject
Ah, Jill! Please, come in.
[ she's happy to see her. but...oh, right. jill's also new here, and with james here... ]
Jill, this is James. [ she gestures towards him with her hand. ] James kept an eye on me on the battlefield.

Jill gets a nod from him. ]

Hi, Aiko. A pleasure to see you here.
[ ana's smile brightens just a tad when she sees the flowers and cookies. ]
Why, you're too kind! There was no need to do that, but thank you.
no subject
[ There's a smile from James as well, encouraging. Aiko seems unwell with coming to an infirmary room like this and he can't say he doesn't understand. ]
We're pretty good, really. Getting out of this battle with no lasting damages is a feat worth celebrating.

But responsibility and guilt weren't the only reasons he was coming to visit them. He had other ones too. Ones he would tell them both during the visit.
So when he showed up, Valvatorez was dressed as he typically was, though he did have a bandage and gauze wrapped around his forehead in one place. Otherwise, he looked okay, for the most part. When he arrived, he was carrying some brightly colored, fresh flowers in a vase; perhaps a bit of an odd, traditionalist gesture for a couple of teenagers, but their fragrance was calming and soothing. Hopefully it'd do just a little bit more to help them relax. He knocked on the door quietly to their room and stood just outside the frame.]
Anastasia, James. Do you both have a moment for a visit? How are you both feeling?

Professor?
[ she frowns. ] Professor, I'm so sorry. I wanted to help and fight alongside you all longer...
no subject
Professor, good day. We're as fine as can be. The medical treatment came in time and effectively so.
