Who: Mercy & you!
What: Summer busywork, office hours, and the rare moments of R&R!
When: July 6th and onwards until the end of the month
Where: Campus & Soleil
Warnings:
i. summer busywork; hall of pythia/applied medical magitek classroom, mornings and afternoons
[Angela doesn't take a vacation like most of the others do. She has work to do, she cant afford time off for a trip like that...but it's best not to dwell on it. It's simply the way it is.
She spends the majority of her time in her classroom, tinkering with...something. It appears to be a red crystal orb, no bigger than an apple, encased in some strange silver apparatus. It pulses with energy, giving off a faint golden-red glow. Those with magical senses might note that it is boasting very strong currents of restorative magic, and those with even stronger senses may pick up the faint traces of necromantic energy buried deep under that. Curious.
Outside of that, one can find her in the library with several books beside her. The books range from rune studies to healing magic to a couple of murder mysteries??? It's probably a little jarring to see, though. She's in casual wear and holds a travel mug in one hand and a book in the other. She also looks half-asleep. It stands in stark contrast to her usual suit and attentive stance.]
ii. night shifts; infirmary, nighttime
[Evenings and nights are spent in the infirmary, watching over students that have to stay over night and being on call for nighttime emergencies. Or non-emergencies, really, she'd welcome the company. She's often just reading or typing up lesson plans during these hours since the infirmary is so quiet.
But on the occasions when the door opens, or a buzzer tells her one of the rooms requires assistance, she is attentive and quick to respond.]
Good evening, how can I help you?
iii. the rarest encounter: a resting nurse; cafe de la lune, weekends only
[The cafe boasts that it has some of the strongest caffeinated beverages in France, possibly the world. Good. Angela thinks, slumping into a chair in the corner with a cup of black coffee in her hands. Chances are, her sleep was garbage, and she's supplementing the need for rest with copious amounts of caffeine.
The question is, do you catch her before or after she inevitably falls asleep in the chair?]
iv. wildcard
[idk man this is a faculty post but it's summer so she ain't got classes. hit me up with ideas or just go for the jugular, i'm open!!]

He also has a terrible habit of just turning up right beside people silently, so suddenly there's a 7'4 guy who looks like death just... there, in the library. He's also packing the voice of a 40-year-old chain smoker. ]
Excuse me, I know this is rude, but may I take a look at that?
[ He's pointing at a book she's got stacked, but not currently reading on runes. Under his free arm he has a few books on similar subjects. ]
no subject
[What she's about to ask, however, could certainly be considered rude to some people.]
Ah...pardon my asking, but are you well?
https://i.imgur.com/z1n0rYg.jpg
I'm fine, thank you.
[ The reply of someone who is absolutely not fine and hasn't been fine for a long time but doesn't want help, but also used when someone is fine. Clearly, he is the latter.
In fact, he's going to pretend she was just asking to be kind, as he delicately plucks the book out of the stack. He considers just running off with it, but presumably, she still wants it, so he'll do the thing where he'll sit here and read it until she wants it back because she had it first. ]
And how are you?
[ Unlike Angela he opens all the books he has at once in an array in front of him. ]
my point exactly!!!
I am well, thank you.
[The fact that he looks as though he intends to study several books at once is also concerning. That's not normal, Rex. Perhaps it makes her a hypocrite to be concerned about someone overworking themselves, but still.]
That's quite the array of study material for someone on summer vacation.
its fine. dont worry. its not weird.
It's weird, but it works for him. ]
I like studying more than so-called 'fun.'
[ So-called fun, he says. ]
You'd also be surprised at the interconnectivity of subjects.

Which is why she's just kind of wandering in, holding the hand of this small blond child before catching sight of someone in the corner of this place.]
... One second, Marron. [She's saying softly and just going to lead her over there and raise a brow slowly at Angela.]
You look ready to pass out, long day?
no subject
[Angela starts a bit at the voice, but calms when she sees who it is. Her expression is tired and worn, just shy of bitter. But she sees the child and softens immediately.]
Ah, 18. Long night. Several, really - the infirmary has been busy.
no subject
With what's happened, I'm hardly surprised it's been busy. Perhaps taking a break to rest isn't a terrible idea, though? [Why is she the one telling someone to not be reckless? It feels weird, but she's changed in the last... many... years from the reckless teenager and child she once was.]
no subject
[Caffeine is not the same as a break but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. She leans down a little to address Marron with a warm smile.]

Slowly, he peers up blearily at Mercy, confusion crossing his face as he first saw the halo]
an... Angel? Is it... time?
no subject
[It's a routine check that brings her to Ky's room, but she doesn't expect him to be awake. That he is, is a good sign! Probably.]
Oh, no, I'm not- [Consider: you shouldn't have picked angelic symbolism as a nurse who frequently deals with the dead and dying.] ...this is just a routine room check. You are...Ky, correct? It is good to see that you are awake.
no subject
[Slowly he blinks, his hands brushing against his forehead. Oh. He's in the infirmary...? It wasn't as bad as when he was laid up with scarlet fever as a teenager, but it didn't feel all that great, and he's still not entirely sure if he's fully conscious]
No... Sorry. I mean, I am Ky.
no subject
How are you feeling, Ky?
[Clearly not great, but it's best to get it from the source for better understanding of his exact condition.]

[ she lets out a dry laugh before she steps in. ]
I'd like to know if you have any sleeping pills on hand that I can take.
no subject
[It's lighthearted, yes, but tinged with concern. Ana doesn't look like she's recovering very well. She makes her way to the medicine cabinets to retrieve a medium-strength sleeping aid. Something strong enough to help, but non-addictive.]
I do, yes. Having trouble sleeping?
no subject
I am, yes. Insomnia, I think.
no subject
[Angela has seen enough atrocities and horrors in her day that the memories of the battlefield she saw don't quite haunt her the same way they used to. She imagines this is not the case for many of the students and suspects this is the issue with Ana, but it isn't her place to pry. Yet.
She taps a couple of pills onto her palm and directs Ana towards the water cooler by the desk as she hands them off.]

ii;
[He stops at the doorway, offering Dr. Ziegler a crooked smile. He appreciates her appearance - the school needs all the help it can get - but she makes him feel out of his league. She's an actual, human professional. She's studied how to take care of people. She's more than just some daemon who learned how to cast a few spells.]
I just wanted to see how you were holding up.
no subject
[Angela smiles, turning her chair to face him. She's glad to be here, she truly is. It's an opportunity unlike any she's had before. But the daemons on staff still put her on edge. Hieke, less so. Much less so. It's clear to her how dedicated he is with his patients and that's enough to wash away a lot of the fear.
Never all of it. Not after what she's seen.]
I am well, thank you. Yourself?
no subject
[Which is not a lie, for once. He's been doing fine. He's been getting more sleep, not that he necessarily needs it, but with not needing to be in the infirmary constantly he can take care of himself.]
Not really sure what to do with all my free time, honestly.
no subject
[She wouldn't know. Her smile quirks into a grin.]
Sleeping is also something that has been recommended to me. Perhaps that?

[He takes a hold of the cup in one hand--to keep it from spilling if she jumps, and then touches her shoulder.]
Miss Ziegler?
no subject
Eh? Oh!
[She does jump, so it's a good thing he's holding the cup, but her expression sours faster than milk in the Texas sun when she sees who has just decided to join her. She may be groggy and surprised, but her lips press into a professional smile as soon as she becomes aware of their surroundings.
They are, after all, in public. And the apocalypse has passed.]
Ah, D. Thank you for waking me up.
no subject
It's no trouble. I was only passing by. [Having released the cup after he's sure that she's aware of it again, he takes a small step back to give her space.]
Have you not been sleeping well? I would have thought that now would be the time to celebrate and relax.
no subject
I'm afraid between personal projects, preparation for next semester, and working the night shift in the infirmary, I have little time to get restful sleep.
[Not that she needs as much as the average person to function, and she'll take a moment to explain as such before he pretends to fuss over her well being any further.]
My regenerative equipment prevents me from complete dysfunction, but there is only so much it can do, I'm afraid.
