Hello Daybreak Academy! My name is Okami Amaterasu, aka. The Origin of all that is Good, aka. The Mother of us All, aka. Shiranui, aka. Ammy. I'll be teaching what is apparently a lost art now, the Celestial Brush Techniques. The ability to guide nature itself to your whims, with just a brush and ink! Technique scrolls will be ready for all who choose to take my class. I hope to see you there! :D

Hello students!

[Ammy is waving at all those in her class with an enthusiasm usually reserved for particularly excitable dogs.]

Now then, if you'll open your first scrolls, I'll show you all the first technique you'll be learning.

[She stomps a foot, and a practice dummy pops out of a hidden panel. Notably, it's missing it's top half.]

Today, and for the next week, you'll all be learning the Rejuvenation brush technique! Now watch how I do it.

[She pulls out a brush, smoke trailing from it's tip as she points it at the dummy. Then, she just... scribbles in the air, ink floating everywhere her brush touches. When she pulls her brush away, the ink flows over the dummy. It clears out with a puff, leaving the dummy with a brand new top half.]

Now, don't tell Yomigami I said this, but Rejuvenation is one of the easiest Brush Techniques to learn, even for mortals. However, it just looks easy. I know someone who practiced for years just to master it. Thankfully, you have me to teach you all. I am one of only two beings I'm aware of to master all thirteen, the other being the friend I just mentioned.

Anyway, you all will need something to practice on, sooo...

[She looks around the room, not even considering the example dummy. Finally, her gaze settles on a wall without anything on the other end.]

Ah, that's perfect!

[She traces a sort of Q shape in the air, which summons a huge Cherry Bomb in front of the wall. It explodes, taking a large chunk of building with it.]

Your first assignment is to fix that!

[Gongenzaka should be on vacation. He should be, but this looks like a good summer-class to take and he can just make sure to keep up with it once vacation Does start, or so he figures.

More importantly anything involving brush technique is worth learning, to him, as an elective.

He did not realize this was a magic class.

Watching 'Ammy' at work makes him realize that, and suddenly he feels rather...intimidated, perhaps?

But dedicated!

Gongenzaka raises a hand.] Auh... M- Miss Amaterasu? [...he wonders if this is the Real One now...] ...Is it possible, to use 'Rejuvenation', for injuries?

[He could probably just use Japanese rather than English in this class, honestly.]

I'm afraid not, Rejuvenation only works on non-living subjects. You could restore a broken bridge, or even a priceless artifact, but not a broken bone. A wooden gate, but not a tree branch. If you attempt to use it on a living being, the most that will happen is that they become covered in ink. A fact that I've used to my advantage now and then, heheh.

Auh...I see... [He ponders this rather seriously, before taking a moment to raise a nervous brow.] Is there any technique, which may be used as a method of healing?

[Asking for a friend-

The friend is prone to worrying (him)]

There is Bloom, but that only works on plantlife. If you seek restoration of the body, I recommend you look elsewhere. I'm no doctor, the best I can do for someone who's injured is clear out any curses that might be slowing their recovery.

Auh-! No no- it was, only a question! [He hurriedly insists, shaking his head.] If there is, a possibility, it is best to learn, yes? As it is, I am already, very interested in this class..! It is more, than I expected, so I am eager to learn! [he insists, bowing his head deeply.]

In addition, even what is possible, with these techniques...that much, is amazing, in itself!

[It's a bit tricky to get the message out in broken English, but there he goes.]

Why thank you, I hope my techniques serve you well on the road ahead. May the Sun's light shine on your path.

[It may be Gon's imagination, but the light coming out of that hole in the wall just get a bit brighter?]

[That cannot be his imagination, his eyes are too Bear to fail him!

So Gongenzaka is going to just blink a few times, lost for words for a full thirty seconds or so before he shakes himself off.] A-Auh! Th-thank you, Miss Amaterasu!

I shall do my best..! [Time to pick up this brush and get to work!! ...Somehow.]

[Ooh, that's some nice Praise there. Her markings become a more vibrant red for a moment..]

It's important to remember, this is not your power. You are entreating Yomigami to act, using your brush and ink as a medium. For mortals, the Celestial Brush is an expression of faith in the Gods.

Hmmnn...then, it is...a matter of requesting, and believing in, the aid of another god... [Gongenzaka murmurs, looking to his brush.

That sort of thing, rather fortunately, is something Gongenzaka can be very good at. He's got a lot of heart, a lot of faith, and a heck of a lot of will.

Bigger question is probably if Yomigami likes the idea of the werebear taking hold of the brush.]

[It seems he does, as smoke starts to emit from the brush's tip when he points it at the hole in the wall.]

There we go, now just fill in what's missing and Yomigami will do the rest.

Hm! [Alright...carefully fill the hole with all black...

It really does look like he's just painting it over, which is very interesting indeed.

Boosh!]

[The wall emerges from the ink, looking as new as the day it was built. Ammy beams at Gon, clapping her hands.]

Very good! You're a natural, it usually takes even someone with instructions a few tries to get it right.

Auh-! I-

Is that so? [He's going extremely red in the face from this praise.] I- I merely followed the instructions, and hoped 'Yomigami' would be willing...

[That last part was kinda key Gon]

You'd be surprised by how many people have trouble getting into the right mindset. There are many who prefer not to rely on others for strength, and many more who just don't believe in the Gods. Okay, here's your assignment since you learned it so quickly: Go around campus and use Rejuvenation wherever you think you can. Oh, but, if the broken object belongs to someone, please ask first.

Auh! Of course!

[He'll take that assignment with absolute dedication-!] I will be sure, to not disappoint you!

[Or Yomigami for that matter,]

...Amaterasu. The Amaterasu? The Shinto sun goddess? That Amaterasu?

[Even over text, there's an obvious sort of shock and disbelief to the fact that this is actually happening. Actual divinity at this school. That's a new one even for him.

...And if he was an ordinary vampire a sun goddess would be terrifying. Thankfully he's not, so that makes matters more straightforward.]

In the flesh! Which is rarer than you'd think, I usually work through statues.

Statues? ...Seems like as good a method as any, I suppose. I confess, I prefer the hands-on approach myself.

I am quite surprised to see you among us. And as strange as it may be coming from a daemon, grateful. Any and all help we can get is important.

I couldn't just stay in the Celestial Realm while something like Nightfall is happening, could I?

Goddesses and Daemons working together. The curiosities of this modern era never fail to astound me.

[Though it's inaudible over the text, Valvatorez chuckles a little to himself, unable to help a small smile from tugging at his cheeks.]

It's quite the change of pace. I never imagined it would be possible, but here we are. But I do look forward to working with you. I've heard plenty of stories over the years, after all.

Ah, my apologies. My name is Valvatorez. Former Daemon Tyrant, now an instructor , covering the subjects involving defense against vampires and daemons, dark magic, and oceanography and marine biology.

[Yes, he's serious about the last two.]

Is that so? Do you know how the Dragonian kingdom is doing? I haven't gotten around to checking up on them yet.

I'm afraid not, off-handedly. Most of my work over the past four hundred years has been more... individually focused, until I came to Daybreak. I know of the goings on in some Outland territories, but it's hard to keep abreast of everything everywhere.

Ah well, I can't imagine they've been bothered too much at the bottom of the sea. Still, I suppose it's nice meeting you. It's going to take a bit for me to get used to this.

The bottom of the sea? ...Strange, the only underwater kingdom I'm familiar with is Atlantis. ...Seems I'm in need of brushing up my mythology a bit.

Don't worry. I'm used to that adjustment period people often need. I get it a lot, as you might understand. I don't take it personally.

[One of her students is not like the others. One of her students is a bird. But can anyone blame him? A way to work with the world around him with nothing more than a paintbrush, no opposable thumbs needed! That is pretty cool.

He's not bothering to open his own scroll, peering with that fantastic hawk vision at everyone else's instead. Brush in beak, he lands on a chunk of wall and looks backward.]

< Just... paint the air? >

That's what you need to do physically, yes. On other levels it's a bit more complicated. Why don't you give it a shot, Taka-kun?

[No reaction for a moment, until he realizes she means him. Whoops.]

< It's Tobias. > [Is all he says, mildly enough. He aligns the brush with his tongue, keeping it straight, and... starts to paint the air, like she said.

Feels pretty silly.]

I see. Taka is the Japanese word for hawk, so I suppose I just called you that without thinking. It's a bit weird being on this end of it...

[If Tobias is doing this right, with respect and faith in Yomigami, ink will trail in the air along the path of his brush before clearing to reveal a fixed wall.

If not, he'll just look silly waving a brush around in his beak.]

< What do you mean? >

[He waves the brush in the correct shape and... nothing happens. Almost nothing. A single stroke of ink appears in midair at the very end. It's a start!]

Oh, I just got a lot of nicknames when I incarnated as a wolf. It seemed everyone I met had a new one for me. Anyway, you did manage to get a bit of Holy Smoke there at the end, so it's a start. It tends to take longer for the more self-sufficient types to get this down.

< So I keep on trying until the wall comes back? >

[Tricky, tricky. Of course he has more faith in himself than other people. That can't change overnight! Attempt number two...]

Pardon me if this seems disrespectful, but I find it a little hard to believe that the great goddess of the heavens would manifest in person at this school. As important as our role is, at most I would expect an appearance from Yatagarasu.

It's far from the first time I've appeared in this realm in times of danger. I'm a goddess of action, I do whatever I can to help my people. In fact, if I could take care of Nightfall myself, without endangering any of you, I would.

I have no doubt that the goddess of the sun would want to oppose Nightfall directly. What I mean is, teaching here is hardly the only way to do so. And beyond that, it's not at all uncommon for mortals to take advantage of people's desperation by making claims of divinity.

Only? Perhaps not. It is, however, the best I've discovered. It's certainly better than launching those abominable spawn of Yami called "nukes" at the problem.

[Did the sunlight just get a bit harsher?]

As for my claims of divinity, I don't see what I'd have to gain by pretending.

[...Okay, that's. Huh. Maybe it's coincidence, but...]

There are people who pretend for influence, or to con people into giving them offerings. I've seen it happen before.

I don't need influence, and offerings are appreciated, but not required. I'm here to protect you all, or failing that, help you to protect yourselves. I don't need people to worship me, all I need is for them to believe.

In that case, would you mind a simple test? If you really are the great goddess, you would hear my prayers, correct?"

If I was working through a medium, no. I'd have to hear them with my own ears. Right now? Yes, I would hear prayers directed specifically towards me. Maybe even answer them if I have the time!

[Well then, time for the test. He closes his eyes, and prays to the sun goddess for a break from the horrific summer heat.]

[And like that, it suddenly starts raining. There wasn't a cloud in the sky before that prayer, but now it's completely overcast.]

And I just want you to know, that if not for Nightfall I would be in Tokyo right now. What this school is fighting isn't the only threat to humanity right now, or the most insidious.

I'm not surprised. It only seems natural that even people or beings indifferent to Nightfall would be taking advantage of the distraction to advance their own ends.

I don't know exactly what it is, or what it's planning, but I do know this:

[A fog suddenly rolls in, seemingly unaffected by the rain. It only lasts a moment, however there's a figure there that wasn't before.]

It already has it's claws in you. Be careful.
