Memory Sharicus - Oh No, not again!
About 8 am on July 15th, Rex does something stupid in his usual genius way. It was meant to be a small, simple test run of a method to scan a person and instantly gain all the data he needed to produce a Phantom.
The small field the spell was meant to spread just kept growing, until popping like a bubble with the most counterintuitive sound of all- two seconds of white noise, sounding as if it was coming from inches away. Not everyone heard it. But everyone who did...
It's a painless process, almost ticklish and instantaneous as numerous coloured orbs fly out from their chest, taking wild curving trajectories that launch them all over the academy and some of Soleil, coming to a sudden stop and hovering silently for just a few seconds.
That's when they start to slowly float towards the nearest possible recipient of the memory they contain, accelerating as they get closer as if thought and mind have a unique sort of magnetism.
It's sort of beautiful to see, really, not that Rex will notice because 60% of his mind is consumed with fear he will get into trouble and the Phantom project will be compromised. On the other hand, the Phantom project could provide the perfect scapegoat. So about six hours after the initial event, he released his latest creation- the Phantom mischief-maker, Waggery!
What a disaster.
(( ooc: The planning post is here! Be careful to warn for the nastier memories! If you already have memories planned to share, feel free to write them as a top level or just put up your character and link to the planning/make it a free for all. There'll be a post below for Waggery shenanigans and random NPC memories up for grabs. ))

[ He's gonna go for what he hopes will become their signature 'playfully annoying her' move, a gentle prod in the forehead. ]
no subject
It definitely feels like it's been longer than one day!
no subject
[ I mean.
Rex is gonna try again because he's pretty sure he's worked out what he did wrong. ]
no subject
For all we know, this could be permanent.
[But she hopes not.]
no subject
...There are only a handful fo things that would be worse than that.
no subject
Yeah, you're right. [Today has...been a lot.] But hopefully this gets cleared up soon, and we can get used to things going haywire without magical interference.
no subject
The magical disruption never stops. It's just different kinds.
[ That's his life at least. ]
no subject
I guess.
[She reaches up and over to do the same thing he does - poke him in the forehead.]
But sometimes it's not as bad as this.
no subject
That's debatable.
no subject
[Discounting his blood loss.]
no subject
[ Oh no, you're not making him acknowledge happy memories when there are bad ones right there! ]
no subject
[Stop being so gloomy all the time!]
They made us closer, didn't they?
no subject
[ Gloom intensifies. ]
no subject
But they didn't. What happens is more important than almosts.
no subject
I don't think that applies to almost dying. If you fall off a catwalk and almost die, you still install a safety rail.
no subject
Uuuugh. I guess, but that’s no reason to be so gloomy.
no subject
[ Bitch. ]
no subject
I already knew that.
[She shakes her head.]
But you'll get reasons not to be so gloomy, too.
no subject
[ He outright says it, like it's weird people think it's so important. ]
No wonder nothing ever gets done in a timely fashion.
no subject
[She's pretty sure that's actually a serious question, so he gets a serious answer.]
Even if it's just a fleeting thing, doesn't it feel better to be happy? I mean, I'm pretty sure you'll say no, it's disgusting, because you're a sourpuss, but if you had to be completely honest...
Don't you think it's a good thing?
no subject
[ It was the number one priority of his mother, who lived her entire life in pursuit of nothing more than her own happiness. She could have changed the world easily if she had a higher purpose. Just like Rex could, if he felt he deserved to. But he's nothing like his mother, in his head at least. He prefers his misery, where nothing changes and he can't lose anything. ]
no subject
[She sighs. She can’t be disappointed, because it’s exactly what she’d expect from Rex. It’s just...disheartening.]
But just because you don’t think it’s important doesn’t mean other people don’t. I think it’s pretty important, to find happiness. Otherwise what’s the point with everything?
no subject
[ It's probably the dryest sort of facetiousness ever heard. He can't say what the point of it all is, but happiness is just one of many chemical mixtures that swirl around in some wet meat. It's not important. The pointlessness of life is one of those truths people know in their hearts but choose to pretend otherwise. Just existing doesn't imply meaning- but continuing to exist is the impulse that's strongest in a coward like him.
That's what he'd say if he was inclined to say anything. ]
no subject
[She rolls her eyes and shakes her head. Typical Rex, really, always finding the quickest way to be a downer.]
Which...maybe there isn't, but it's still nice to enjoy the ride, isn't it?
[She knows there was a time he had joy in his life. She doesn't know what, exactly, made him the man he is today, but she's confident he'll be able to get some of that joy back.]
no subject
[ He huffs a bit. She's just so stubborn all the time. Accept the pointlessness of life! ]
It's best to focus on what must be done, pleasant or otherwise.
