heromedal: (Oooooh no.)

Memory Sharicus - Oh No, not again!

About 8 am on July 15th, Rex does something stupid in his usual genius way. It was meant to be a small, simple test run of a method to scan a person and instantly gain all the data he needed to produce a Phantom.

The small field the spell was meant to spread just kept growing, until popping like a bubble with the most counterintuitive sound of all- two seconds of white noise, sounding as if it was coming from inches away. Not everyone heard it. But everyone who did...

It's a painless process, almost ticklish and instantaneous as numerous coloured orbs fly out from their chest, taking wild curving trajectories that launch them all over the academy and some of Soleil, coming to a sudden stop and hovering silently for just a few seconds.

That's when they start to slowly float towards the nearest possible recipient of the memory they contain, accelerating as they get closer as if thought and mind have a unique sort of magnetism.

It's sort of beautiful to see, really, not that Rex will notice because 60% of his mind is consumed with fear he will get into trouble and the Phantom project will be compromised. On the other hand, the Phantom project could provide the perfect scapegoat. So about six hours after the initial event, he released his latest creation- the Phantom mischief-maker, Waggery!

What a disaster.

(( ooc: The planning post is here! Be careful to warn for the nastier memories! If you already have memories planned to share, feel free to write them as a top level or just put up your character and link to the planning/make it a free for all. There'll be a post below for Waggery shenanigans and random NPC memories up for grabs. ))

He doesn't keep up with those. How depressing.

"Okay, first, that's super messed up. I know time periods and all but still. Second, say you were right. Why the heck would any cook, even at a really crappy restaurant, just dump arsenic of all things in one person's food? Some person they'd never even met? Even if the guy was a total sociopath, doing something like that just to me? When they won't even see the messed up results?" It's crazy. It's way over the top. There's zero motive, zero reason for any of that.

"I'll budge for maybe... I don't know, a really bad allergic reaction or something. But Arsenic? I'm not doubting your education but there's got to be some wires crossed here. Some kind of similar bad reaction or something."

"I don't know. But for that kind of reaction, whoever it was definitely wanted to off you quick." He shrugs, then folds his arms again.

"Didn't even go through the trouble of taking it slow and making it look like a sickness. Just went straight to the killing." He'd say it's brutal, but frankly he's done worse.

Definitely cowardly though. Super cowardly.

"Exactly!" He exclaims. "That's my point! It can't have been that because there was nobody who'd want me dead! Not that bad." He grimaces just thinking about it. The memory isn't as fresh in his mind as it apparently is in Avery's but it's not faded either. He shakes his head.

"I've had people try and murder me over the past few years now and while obviously, I think they suck, they all had what was more or less a pretty obvious motive. There's no reason for some stranger to kill me back then." The more he goes, the less sense it makes. And you know, in some cases, he could understand if someone wanted him dead but not this one.

"And!" He continues, "There was a witness! Ernesto went to the same place I did and he walked out fine! Now if the Outlands hadn't gotten involved, he would've obviously had to take me somewhere to get autopsied. They'd be found out! Who the heck would be so stupid to set themselves up like that?"

Well. Now he just had his doubts on this Ernesto fellow. Whoever the hell he was. But if Héctor's this deep in denial about poisoning, Avery doubts that he'll believe anything he has to say about this so-called friend.

"Fine, fine. Whatever you say. But if it DOES turn out to be arsenic, I reserve the right to say 'I told you so.' And you better believe I'll do it, too."

"Oh for-- I've already got Maverick trying to swindle me out of a hundred euros over this!" He exclaims, exasperated. "Why can't anyone just believe me when I say how I died? It's either murder or choking!"

Shouldn't he know? He's the one who died! To be fair, Maverick had jumped to the murder thing before he said how he died but the whole thing is still ridiculous.

"Have you considered, I don't know, the fact that you're a murderer yourself and a little bit paranoid for it? You're predisposed to assuming the worst in people."
subconmodo: (So here's the legalese)

[personal profile] subconmodo 2019-07-20 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Avery holds up a finger. "Not through poison! Important distinction there. Poison's for chumps." And there isn't an ounce of doubt or shame to be had.
unpocoloco: (Unimpressed)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-07-20 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a tired, deeply unimpressed look from him. He then says, dryly, "You may literally be the worst person I've ever hung out with."

He'd wonder why their friends but he's had to justify it to himself enough that he knows all too well. And so he only shakes his head.

"Still a murderer, still prone to seeing the worst. And there's also no way anything could turn out to be anything else. Again, already dead. I'm not going to do a take two."

Avery opens his mouth to argue the point (a lawyer's instinct), but once the statement fully processes, he can't help but give a little shrug and a tilt of the head. "Eh, that's fair. Not like it can be changed now. But! I still want 'I told you so' rights! I'm not giving up on that. They're important!"
unpocoloco: (Anger Sigh)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-07-20 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He groans, dragging a hand down his face and then waving it. "Fine, whatever, The rights are yours. Congratulations. I'm not signing anything for it. Knowing you, you'll do some fine print."
subconmodo: (WOW! That's horrifying!)

[personal profile] subconmodo 2019-07-23 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now you're learning!" And for what it's worth, Avery sounds almost proud.
unpocoloco: (I don't think so)

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-07-25 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Avery, you're terrifying," He says, head shaking. He's not sure if he's learned that more from class or knowing him, but he'll let him have that too.

"Well, even if this was... something." That sure is a way to put it. "It's nice to have the proof right here that you'd let me know if you thought anything was up. And I'm sorry you went had to feel all that too."
subconmodo: (H - aggressive mental math)

[personal profile] subconmodo 2019-07-26 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Avery groans. "Ugh, don't apologize for it. Not like you put that weird memory marble there."

He doesn't address the other statement. Easier to put as much distance between him and it as possible.

[personal profile] unpocoloco 2019-07-26 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Too late, the apology is done." He doesn't know whether Avery says that to try and scold him for guilt or out of not wanting to have any care himself or something else but he's pushing on regardless. "I can feel sorry for the fact someone's dealing with my business. If I wasn't here or, you know, screwing things up so this stuff happened in the first place, no one would have to deal with it."

He notices the lack of comment but he doesn't point it out. He'll let himself think Avery's accepted that one and give the guy some mercy too.
