Memory Sharicus - Oh No, not again!

About 8 am on July 15th, Rex does something stupid in his usual genius way. It was meant to be a small, simple test run of a method to scan a person and instantly gain all the data he needed to produce a Phantom.

The small field the spell was meant to spread just kept growing, until popping like a bubble with the most counterintuitive sound of all- two seconds of white noise, sounding as if it was coming from inches away. Not everyone heard it. But everyone who did...

It's a painless process, almost ticklish and instantaneous as numerous coloured orbs fly out from their chest, taking wild curving trajectories that launch them all over the academy and some of Soleil, coming to a sudden stop and hovering silently for just a few seconds.

That's when they start to slowly float towards the nearest possible recipient of the memory they contain, accelerating as they get closer as if thought and mind have a unique sort of magnetism.

It's sort of beautiful to see, really, not that Rex will notice because 60% of his mind is consumed with fear he will get into trouble and the Phantom project will be compromised. On the other hand, the Phantom project could provide the perfect scapegoat. So about six hours after the initial event, he released his latest creation- the Phantom mischief-maker, Waggery!

What a disaster.

[This guy would make friends with daemons. He's realizing that now. Maybe he is just... a nice guy. A terribly unlucky guy too, because that's how the world works.]

Huh? Oh, yeah, for sure. There's a bunch teaching at the school in fact. You might not have their classes, but ah... Sta-- I mean, Michael, he was teaching her some time ago. He can lack tact with certain touchy subjects but he seems to care a lot and he's always been helpful. Hieke, in the infirmary, really just seems like any shy guy around. Likes plants. There's a few here who might be daemons or something else but I never asked. Atchison isn't but he seems like one. They're all here to help. I wouldn't be too surprised if there are others out there.

[H u h. Interesting. He's quiet for a moment, apparently thinking it over.]

Isn't it? [He grins.] It just goes to show how all kinds of beings can come together when it really counts and nobody really has to be one thing or another just because of whatever being they're supposed to be.

< I wonder if there's anything all people have in common? >

Hmm...

[He taps his chin and thinks about that.]

There's an exception to everything but... I think we all want to feel okay. Not just safe but okay in our own heads and worlds. Even if we don't know the best ways of doing it, for the most part everyone is usually trying what they think is their best. For some, that's and for some it's attention... love... absolving themselves, self protection, distraction. Even by choosing to do nothing at all. It's what we think is best for us.

[Seems self evident to him, but... maybe that's not as obvious as he thought.]

< Right. Yeah, it'd be kind of strange if that weren't true for somebody. >

[Self-evident but often not thought about.]

Exactly. I find it can be easier to understand people that way, remembering that everybody's just trying their best.

[It's just that some people's best is horrible. Some adults, anyway. A very certain few.]

[Some people's bests are really bad. But Tobias called for a way they're all alike and that meant the bad ones too.]

Hah, it's never the small things that make everyone alike though, is it?

< Dunno. I suppose not. But you're about ten thousand times the people person I am, I guess that makes you the expert. >

You make it sound like I'm good with people!

[He looks amused.]

Just because I like them doesn't mean I know what I'm doing.
