Spirits, Ghosts, and You
Who: Kisara, various ghosts, and open
What: Beginning of the ghost/seance plot
When: Night of August 4th into the morning of August 5th and up to a week after
Where: Various parts of the school
Warnings: Potentially some triggering things due to ghosts, trauma, that sort of thing. Think of this as a catch-all unless you want to make your own post with your own ghost nonsense.
Backstory
There was no way this could possibly go wrong, it was simple enough from her research of how to get in contact with the dead and as far as she could see, the school had certain measures in place to keep any particularly nasty spirits or those masquerading as them, from coming onto the grounds. Which meant that even if she failed, it wouldn't really matter in the long run, right?
At least she could find a place she found suitable, an area of the courtyard with just enough moonlight for her purposes. She'd spent a good couple of hours setting things up in the middle of the night, primarily setting out trays of different food and drink and two pieces of paper with hieratic script littering the pages properly.
Once it had been set up was when she quietly set the borrowed stone down in front of her, taking a deep breath before proceeding. This wasn't going to formal, she knew that, but perhaps it was only intent that had mattered. "I only seek two spirits here on this night, I present offerings and letters, if that would serve well. I only wish to speak, to find the answers to what I have since remembered. I hadn't meant to insult by not recognizing them before, I simply had the knowledge locked away..."
For a couple of minutes it seems like absolutely nothing is happening and she's rubbing at her face, maybe another few minutes? She hadn't the foggiest how this was supposed to work, but maybe it had been enough? It's once she's done with that train of thought that things really begin to start, what seems to simply be the materialization of a foggy form of a person suddenly becomes two, then three, and only multiplying from there. Clearly not going the way she had meant.
The problems with not knowing what you're doing is you also have no idea how to stop this, other than to absolutely book it from there and hope that by hiding in your room this will all go away the moment the sun rises.
Too bad that's not how it works, nor is it confined to only her.
[This is the beginning for the Ghost/Seance plot which info on can be found over here, this is a purely optional event. As for the items in the post, feel free to have your characters find them. The bonus part below has a spirit that is available during the week, just let me know if you want him somewhere specific.]
Bonus
[Throughout this whole mess there's various spirits wandering around, but there's one in particular that probably seems more out of place than anything else. A very oddly dressed man who seems to be looking for something or someone in particular instead of paying mind to anyone else around the area. There seems to be no malice to be picked up from him, more a determination and confusion. Anyone that tries to stop him may find some answers to this mess, but unless directly spoken to, seems lost in his own thoughts and plans than anything else.]

Grimm | OTA
[Over his long life Grimm has encountered ghosts before. Some of them are linked to nightmares, regrets without voice and thus go unheard. Such things are difficult to put into words even for the vessel of the God of Nightmares but he did his best during those times when faced with the silence of the past.
But his own regrets, his own silence was another matter entirely. And it seems to have come to the Troupe Master whether or not he wished for it.
Grimm has tucked himself in a quiet corner much like he had done during prom and those who wander across him may catch snatches of conversation he is having with apparently nothing. But Grimm is a little faster on picking up someone listening in this time.]
Ah...please, do not mind me.
[The Troupe Master's smile is noticeably strained.]
B
[As the week goes on, it becomes obvious that Grimm is not the only one seeing these things. The Troupe Master's family is still surrounding him but they simply follow along as Grimm wanders the school, looking for those who seem to be in trouble.
It is not something others should deal with alone, he feels.]
Are you alright, my friend?
[He knows that this is not something he can fix. But even simply listening helps.]
Wildcard
[If you have another prompt you would like to do, feel free to PM this journal or my discord at zeetee#7812.]
I suppose B (let's embed some icons woo)
[It may have come a bit apparent to Grimm that there's at least one new face wandering around the school, seemingly on a mission of some sorts to find someone. Given his clothing, it's very clear he's not remotely from this time period, but he's paying no one around him any mind.
At least, not until he hears that question that he's pausing to turn and watch him for a moment. There's bonuses to being dead as long as he has been, mostly picking up on what the local languages are.]
... You can see me? [A few can, but he hadn't really noticed until it's pointed out to him. His accent is thick, very clearly not his native tongue.]
no subject
He is curious because this man seems to have a goal in mind rather then wandering.]
I can indeed. The ghosts that wander this school are visible to all, I believe.
[For now. He does not know the source of this event so Grimm cannot rightly say what is truly going on.]
Are you seeking someone or something?
A
You hear them as well?
no subject
[And Grimm (Alderic) can see his own regrets from these ghosts. It had taken them a while to recognize him. He had been a child when he last saw his family before they passed, after all. No reason the ghosts of his family would recognize Grimm as an adult.
(In his darker moments Grimm had to wonder if they died knowing whether or not he had escaped the fire he caused.)
But he is not the important one here.]
You do not have to worry about me, my dear. Do you see them as well?

If you need a distraction, I'd be willing to assist.
[ If he sees anything personal to himself, he doesn't call attention to it. He doesn't even look bothered, really. ]

[A lame joke and it is very obvious Grimm's heart is not in it. Whoever he is seeing has thrown the Troupe Master off that much by their mere presence.
(They had been happy to know he survived. That he grew up into a fine adult even if they didn't understand what he became. But-)
Grimm just shakes his head.]
I will be fine. There are others who may be in a worse situation then I. Are you well, Ekkehardt?

[This particular Sunday night, Toki has convinced Jolyne to once again watch a movie from a nest of blankets on the floor. It's a romantic comedy and Toki is very invested in the ridiculously cliched plot and one-note characters. He's cried three times already, and just when it looks like they're going to finally get together, another tragedy strikes-
Only Toki's stopped paying attention. There's noise that's not coming from the laptop. A disjointed mix of voices, getting louder and more coherent until they sound so close they could be in the dorm room. Toki slams the laptop closed just to make sure. No, it wasn't in the movie. So many speaking at once, they're hard to distinguish from each other. Why... help me... who disturbs me... (a child laughing)... have my revenge...
What's happening?
[He's trying to stay calm, but holy shit.]
b; Parking Garage (ghost!sister), Closed to Avery (8/7)
[She comes to existence slowly, the pieces of her soul thought scattered and lost knitting themselves together. Enough for her to emerge, to enter this plane, lying dormant no longer. Her memory is sharp, clear. Here is where she died for the second time. The boy with the strange pet had trapped her and, she had thought, destroyed her.
The presence that had accompanied her to this spot was no longer felt. Looking down at her form, she is whole and unbroken. The hollow mask only a fleeting thought. She is... herself once again. And yet, something is missing. Something she's drawn to. A piece of her essence, stolen. The trace of it lingers nearby. Ginshu spares but a glance over the Quad, and turns to descend the stairway to the parking garage, compelled to seek to something inside- something that has touched her soul.]
c; Bonus/The Oddly Dressed Man (8/9)
[After the initial horrors of the ghost arrivals, Toki has gotten used to their presence. Not many have stayed around too long, fading sometimes. He sees them in various states of transparency; their voices mostly whispers now. This man, standing by a tree near the Lumiere dorm, is clear except for a slight aura around him.
Even if that weren't a giveaway, his clothing certainly is. A robe-like garment and a cape? Gold armor and accents, and a ridiculous helmet. He holds a small staff of some sort, or a weapon; it looks like an ice pick. But on top of it is an symbol. An eye. He's one of the ghosts, Toki's sure, but he's more present than any of them had been before. Maybe he was involved with what triggered this whole mess. If he gets what he wants, maybe the ghosts will finally leave.]
Who are you?
[He immediately regrets asking.]
C
[At this point he's only been wandering the grounds, ignoring the majority of the people and other spirits around him, acting as if there's something in particular he's searching for. Nothing about him seems violent, nothing about him seems angry, just... confused and determined. For whatever odd reason.
He's watching Toki as he starts to move closer, his gaze probably feeling a bit heavy on him. Someone that clearly had some sort of presence and station to him while he was alive, but other than that, he doesn't seem too keen on moving from his current position.
Until he's asking that and he's slowly raising a brow.]
Someone that was summoned here and I do not see the person who called for me around. [His accent is thick, very clearly not from this time period or this region, for that matter.]

Can you like time-delay summonings!? I think he's in Canada, the guy you're looking for!

And then Avery opened the door and saw the veritable infestation of souls.
It has to be on purpose, right? It seems like whenever something goes right for him for a moment whatever cosmic force controls the universe deems to be too long, it all comes crashing down. There's so many of the pests he can't even tell which ones he's allowed to eat!
A day out seems his best bet--either to get himself some brand new stationery or to sup on the souls that weren't on campus (plausible deniability), but just as he's about to head to his car he catches sight of her, and there's something just familiar enough about the young woman to give him pause.]
Have we met?

What are you talking about? The only thing that's happened is you slammed the laptop shut. [There's a bit of an annoyed tone to her voice, but it's mostly from being rudely awakened from her dozing state.

Kohaku Yuhara
She didn't, though. Kohaku had excellent reflexes. She was a little unnerved that she hadn't smelled them or heard their heartbeats or anything, but when she got a good look at them she relaxed. They were just ghosts. You get used to weirder than ghosts at Daybreak academy. T
They all looked like kids. None of them looked much older than thirteen. They had school uniforms that looked vaguely familiar to her, though she couldn't immediately place where she'd seen them. And they were all staring at her.
She HAD seen those uniforms before. It had just taken her a minute because she'd only gone to that school for a few days. After that...
They hadn't died peacefully. One of them had spectral blood dripping down his face from a wound that split the top half of his head in half, another was balancing on one leg because the other was gone. None of them wasn't horribly mangled in some way or another. Kohaku's face turned white as she took a step back. "I'm..."
She choked, then turned and ran.
The ghosts slowly vanished, one at a time. They were ghosts; they weren't constrained by simple geometry. They didn't haunt places. They haunted people, and there was no where she could go that they couldn't simply reappear at.

She flings a bottle into the hallway. It cracks and scatters glass and holy water on the floor, catching fire that won't burn anything but the spirits, and even then only if their intent is poor.]

Tobias | ota
It's ruined his hunting for the day, getting in the way of his talons and making his stomach twist with shame. He's hungry. He's cranky. He needs to eat.
And that's why a one-way psychic shout blasts out of the clear blue sky.]

Ky Kiske | OTA
[Floating through the halls in a clear state of confusion is a woman in her 40s, dressed in a gray woolen habit, with black wimple and veil, with gray-fringed blond hair poking out, green eyes searching, stopping to peer around]
Where am I? Why am I here?
A reunion
[Later, the same nun can be seen, and despite appearing much older than a certain professor, she tackles Ky as if she were a child, startling him as she starts bawling against his shoulder]

keith | ota
[right. so it's pretty damn obvious that things have gone amazingly badly when he's realizing he can hear voices in his head on the night kisara was supposed to try her seance and he's pretty much immediately grabbing his phone to shoot her a message.]
kisara what's going on
what's happening
b. panic at the disco - aug 5th
[ok so someone should absolutely still be in the infirmary, and pretty obviously looks like he ought to be in there what with the bandages still on his head, but the healing process is gonna have to wait because shit's gone south and he needs to at least go retrieve the necromancer's crystal. sure he's seeing ghosts and sure he's kinda wigging out because one of the voices in his head just miiiight be his deceased dad, but that's also going to have to wait in line.
once he arrives at the area where kisara had her stuff set up, he's sifting through the various items there with an increasingly panicked look on his face.]
Shit
c. ghost diplomacy - aug 9th - 10th
[well someone's finally been discharged from the infirmary but man does he not look all that thrilled. the bandages are gone, but the ghosts sure aren't and if anything, the spell's just gotten more intense and now he's seeing the ghosts, too. whenever one tries to approach him for conversation, he seems to just walk straight through them like he can neither see or hear them.
but there is one ghost in particular that bears a particular resemblance to keith that he seems to have some difficulty treating that way. and maybe if you catch him in a more isolated spot, he can be seen looking at that ghost and then looking down at his feet.]
d. wildcard
[ have a different idea? feel free to catch keith in the infirmary between aug 5th and aug 8th, or somewhere else. he'll be leaving daybreak to go home on the 11th of august!]

Seiji Date | OTA
[Seiji already has been dealing with a voice. It speaks to him with more and more frequency as if the bond between them is growing stronger although Seiji has done everything he can to ignore it and shield himself from its influence.
So when he hears the other voice--he wonders if Korin is changing its methods. If it has forgone the gentle, if persistent harassment to something else. But as the voice gains strength and the words become more recognizable, he knows it is not Korin.
"I don't want... I don't want to...dead."
He drops the books in his arms as he hears the voice, immediately on edge and hands ready to cast a spell. Seiji does not know the voice and yet he feels as if he does. There is something familiar about it. Something that rings to him as if he's heard it before. Deep inside.
"Fuck you...I just...my sister..."
Another voice. Another person that feels familiar.
"It hurt. It hurt so much..."
Someone who walks by in the library, checking out the noise, may see Seiji standing still, eyes glowing as he feels out the spirits nearby whose voices are getting louder and stronger.]
B
[When Seiji opened his eyes during his morning meditation some days later to stare into the face of the young man he remembered cutting down in an alley of New York City, he decided it was enough. He's been sitting out on one of the large leaves on the grounds. The attempts to center himself and calm his senses was a failure and the spirit before him was more than proof enough.
"You can't hide from me. Us."]
Yes, I know there are more of you.
[He can sense them at the edges. Avoiding Seiji directly, but if someone else is nearby they may run into random teenagers and young adults who look like they've been cut down with a sword or burned in something that wasn't flames. They're angry, but they're scared, too.]
A

Rex "fuck off ghosts" Arany
Hour One
[ It's quite distressing at first. The constant whispering, groaning and generally being a pain in the arse has him covering his ears and wandering slowly around, muttering for them to shut up repeatedly. Asking them what they want, begging them to stop, the usual. It may look even worse to people who can't see the ghosts. ]
Hour Two
[ He's used to it now. Whatever. They're just kinda annoying.
Which is why when he's in the library looking up how to make them go away, he eventually snaps out a torrent of Bulgarian profanity into what is supposed to be the shrieking skulls but could possibly be just the person sitting next to him.]
Hour Three
[ Okay, it's cool. He's cool. He's looked up enough to work out a good ghost banishment method. He does it in the parking lot, because he needs an area with a lot of open space to do some chalking and he's not doing it in a classroom or something.
Unfortunately distracted as he was and is, the air in the middle of his chalk circle rips like paper, and a huge red eye glares out at him through the aperture in lands unknown and terrible.
Rex's own eye twitches a few times before he says- ]
And don't you fucking start too, you little shit. I'll beat your ass.
Hour Four
[ You know what. This is his life now. He's just sitting on a bench, eating an extremely large cheese sandwich and pretending they aren't there. Fuck 'em. They don't run his life.]
Hour Five
[ He changed his mind, fuck you. Anyone who has the battle experience or general ability to sense the nebulous anime thing of Killing Intent will feel it anywhere on campus, like a full-on daemon lord just popped into the middle of the school. ]
Hey... [ Slowly, he raises an arm and points in a random direction. ] Get lost.
[ It lasts just as long as it takes Rex to say that at which point every single ghost goes silent, stares for a few seconds and then flies off screaming in terror to follow the direction of his finger. ]
Hour One
Hey, kid.
[Jail looks... mostly like usual. She seems to have been trying to get Rex's attention for a while, at this point- she's looking mildly concerned. Not... really as worried as someone in this situation should be, just vaguely aware that she should probably be doing something about whatever's going on here.]
[The one thing that isn't normal for her, though, is the strange ghostly nimbus floating around her. It's quieter and less numerous than Rex's own spirits, though there's still... probably a lot of them?]
[It's a little hard to tell, because none of them are human.]
[They're not even humanoid, just a bizarre mishmash of feathers and tentacles and God knows what else, inexplicable twisting limbs that don't seem quite like anything Earthly and familiar.]
[Jail reaches up and casually pats a tendril that floats too close to her, the sort of offhanded affection you'd treat a stray dog with, and gently nudges it out of the way so it doesn't block her vision. She seems mostly used to this by now- apparently it's been happening a lot.]
