WHO: Toki (and Marcel), Lotte, + open
WHERE: Various places on campus
WHEN: September (all month, pre-Lunar Harvest)
WHAT: Mistaken identity, failure, wrath, fundraising, outlets and hobbies, a reunion of sorts, self-medicating
WARNINGS: drugs (prompt 7), potential for RNG visions
1. // Closed to Lotte // [9/1]
[He had almost forgotten it. A vision that came in a cluster of five one night after removing the orichalcum earring. Those visions were hazy and disjointed in his memory, but he's sure this is the girl. A girl with white hair. Vague details are coming to him as he catches sight of her in the Grand Hall.
Toki abandons his plate of food to run over to Lotte, or walk as quickly as his guard will allow, waving emphatically.]
Hey! Uhh, girl with the white hair! I need to talk to you!
2.UNLEASHED! (Lumiere) [9/8]
[Earlier in the morning, Toki had left the dorm to attend the re-evaluation of his probationary status. The meeting and discussion turned out to be absolutely horrifying. A list of accusations spanning from petty behavioral issues to major and unforgivable transgressions. They were watching everything. Every little thing was noted and pointed out. He had several objections at the categorizing of incidents he thought couldn't have nearly been as bad as they were presented, but every one was shot down calmly with detailed reasoning and coercive language. In the end, he agreed and admitted to all of them. Escape attempts, multiple instances of disruptive behavior, reckless endangerment, assault, attempted bribery, breaking and entering, theft, failure to address all inappropriate actions with acceptable accountability, clandestine talk of conspiracy theories against the academy...
He had no idea what all this would entail when he signed consent forms on his last day in the hospital in July. A decision he will regret for a long time. As expected, he made it a little worse by shouting and making good use of Maverick's favorite word, before getting it together as everything was explained in ways he couldn't disagree with. Marcel, the guard, was praised for his excellent record-keeping and accepted a renewal of his contract, albeit reluctantly. He did receive a raise.
Before returning to the dorm, the cat backpack had been exchanged for a utilitarian harness with additional straps, buckles hard to reach in the back, and a locking system requiring rune keys instead of child safety features. Toki would have a very hard time with any further escape attempts.
Now, upon entering Lumiere, it hits him all at once just how hopeless his existence has become. He tried so hard. Now he's giving up in suitably dramatic fashion. He drops to the floor and stares vacantly. Marcel continues at his usual pace to the first floor elevator, dragging Toki behind him like a cat refusing to be walked.]
3. Legionnaire Quarters
[After crawling out of the depths of melancholy, Toki decides to channel all his pent up rage and frustration into something that may potentially be useful, but really is as meaningless as the rest of his endeavors. He's only been to the Legionnaire Quarters a couple times before, and never for training. Which isn't exactly what he's doing, but he calls it that.
In the gym, Marcel has attached the leash to the wall and keeps a respectable distance, reading a book. He's getting paid for doing nothing, and will indulge Toki's whims on occasion. Toki has a punching bag hanging within reach and he's attacking it mercilessly. He's using his bare hands instead of gloves, and isn't punching, but trying to rip the thing to pieces, growling and snarling and shouting incoherent things. His fingers are bleeding, but he doesn't seem to notice.]
4. Theatre Lenormand
- a; art studio
[When Toki enters the same art studio he's used for vision painting since late June, he's not expecting someone else to be in the room. It's certainly not a private space, but he's never run into anyone here before. He waves as Marcel goes about setting up the corner Toki has been using. Marcel spreads out a paint-streaked sheet in front of a large easel. He gathers Toki's commonly used paint colors; pink, green, purple, and black, setting both large cans and smaller tubes down next to the easel.
Toki kicks off his shoes in preparation. His clothes are splattered with paint from past sessions. He kneels in front of the easel before saying anything. He doesn't want to interrupt, but he's also curious.]
What are you working on?
- b; music practice room
[Several days in September, Toki can be found heading into one of the soundproofed music rooms. He doesn't play any instruments, and he has a pink yoga mat with him. Marcel follows with a video camera.
The time Toki spends inside varies. He leaves the music room looking worn out, disoriented, sometimes crying, or unconscious and carried by the guard.]
- c; main stage
[Toki never found out if he was banned from the theatre club for posting false information about the play on the Network, or even if there was a theatre club any longer with Michael unavailable to sponsor it. Without direction here, he can only assume he's still in charge of special effects, and he shouldn't abandoned his responsibilities. Marcel can't argue with that, although he's stated his disapproval. He lets Toki do what he wants, under supervision from a few yards away.
Toki's cannons, five in all, have been set out along the edge of the stage, facing the seats. He has a few things to experiment with; confetti, colored sand, streamers, smoke pellets, and tiny paper mache bees with rune inscriptions allowing them to buzz and fly. He was unfortunately prohibited from using live bees, crickets, or any other insects.]
Okay! Stand back! The trajectory should be right this time!
[It's his third try, but he thinks the cannon is sufficiently aimed. He touches the activation rune on the cannon and sparks start flying out of it. For some reason, the streamers aren't being ejected. A boom sounds, and fire flickers out from the mouth of the cannon, which shakes and starts glowing a weird blue color.]
Oh, shit.
[The cannon explodes, taking two others with it and some of the chairs in the front row.]
5. Quad
[One day, there's a long table set up in the Quad. A neon pink sign is taped to the side of it, announcing:
CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES
PAY WHAT YOU WANT
PROCEEDS GO TOWARDS ACCOMMODATING
STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
There's a drawing under the words of a stick man frowning at a sink that only reaches his knees. On the table are neatly folded clothes and plastic storage containers full of accessories. Unfortunately, everything is Toki's, so there's a little too much pink and purple, glittery appliques, shiny bracelets and watches, bright graphic shirts, and clashing patterns.]
6. Outside Lumiere
[It's a chillier evening. Marcel is already prepared for the crisp fall, wearing a newly purchased plaid jacket. He sits in a fold-able lawn chair, the leash wrapped around his wrist. He wants a cigarette, but it's frowned upon to smoke while on duty.
Toki lies in the grass, beside a tree. It's a special place, one that he hasn't visited. The wooden hutch against the tree is a little weathered, having been placed there in February. The name across it reads "Tsuyukusa" in hiragana. The hutch is a little uneven, a little shoddy, and decorated in blue and green. There isn't a candle lit. Toki traces the name with his finger.]
I still don't remember this, when we made it? But that's okay. I remember you, and I'm sorry I haven't been here. I've missed our talks and that's something that was centering me somehow. I thought about replacing you, but I can't. So I'll talk to you out here and maybe you can hear me from wherever you ended up.
[He comes out to the shrine several nights in September, seeking guidance and solace.]
7. Root of Yggdrasil [cw: drugs]
[Later in September, Toki has been spending more and more time in the greenhouse. Deep inside the Root of Yggdrasil, he's taken over a very small plot. It's hidden behind large leafy plants, and he's managed to convince Marcel it's a secondary catnip experiment. Marcel has never checked it out himself, as he's allergic to bees and Kano's makeshift dresser beehive is still inside the greenhouse; the bees multiplying and building up a good supply of honey. Marcel stands guard at the doorway to the greenhouse, but never goes inside. He's decided it's an unlikely place for Toki to get into trouble, but he would be wrong.
Toki moves aside the thick cover of leaves to step through to his current plot. There's a wooden divider, separating two different soil conditions. On the left, he's growing five marijuana plants with large buds. On the right, psilocybin mushrooms are sprouting. He has some of each setting out on a block of wood to dry. Next to the currently drying batch are buds, leaves, and mushrooms ready to be collected for use.
He takes small plastic bags out of his pocket and places his bounty inside them. There's never anyone around, but he parts the leaves of the obscuring plants to check one last time. It appears he's still alone. Toki shoves the marijuana bags into his pockets and samples a mushroom before putting those away as well. He'll let it kick in as he makes his way back to the entrance. Then Marcel can drag him anywhere for the rest of the day and he will not give a fuck, nor know what he's doing in the slightest. As long as he doesn't hallucinate the giant razor-toothed snails again, it will be a good day.]

So he dives out of the sky and lands neatly on the table, staring at Marcel and Toki. Where to even begin...]
< Uh. Hey again. >
no subject
Hello~! Do you want... uhh, shiny things?
[Toki slides a tub of accessories closer.]
no subject
[Also, not a magpie! He tilts his head, giving off a curious vibe.]
< So... is everything okay? >
no subject
[He starts sifting through the tub for suitable nest things, but pauses at the question.]
Everything's fine. Why? Did something happen!?
no subject
[He can all but hear the guy saying 'our room'. Yeah yeah yeah.]
< Uh... Maybe it's none of my business, but you're on a leash? >
no subject
[He can be assured Tobias has all he needs then. Héctor's like that.]
Yes?
[Toki looks down at said leash, but nothing is weird. Then he remembers.]
You never saw the other one! It was a yellow cat backpack and really cute, but like not as secure. I sort of jumped out the window and didn't tell Marcel where I was going when I went to help Héctor, so I didn't have it when I met you. Anyway, so yes, new leash!
[He's nonchalant and dismissive about it.]
no subject
He jerks his head and turns that glare to Marcel.]
< What the hell! Why do you have a kid on a leash? What's going on here? >
no subject
It's fine! It's fine! Marcel's just doing his job!
[Marcel raises an eyebrow.]
"Do you want a list of transgressions? I've organized them by day, and also alphabetically, and by severity."
[Toki hates his life very much right now.]
no subject
< Uh, how many transgressions are we talking about? >
no subject
It is not! It's not e-
[That's all the protesting Toki gets to do, because once again, a vision hits at a bad time. A weird one, all flashy and bright colors and basically amounting to having sparkly rainbow sand thrown in his eyes. While Toki's spacing out for a minute, Marcel takes the opportunity to scroll through his phone and inform Tobias of some randomly chosen incidents from his list.]
"He tried to run away on a field trip and got hit by a car... Oh, this was a mess. I wasn't here for that, but apparently he assaulted some reporters... Self mutilation, let's just skip the specifics on that... And the pool, we don't need to go into details... The website! Now this, this was interesting, to-"
[After the vision, Toki yelps and rubs at his eyes. He can still feel sand particles in them and its very painful. He blinks rapidly, but the table never comes back into focus. Nothing does.]
It's not supposed to happen yet!
[Marcel gestures to Toki as he proves his point.]
"And there's that. That could happen in a stairwell or on a roof. He needs to be watched. Does that satisfy your curiosity, Mr. Bird?"
no subject
[He stares as Toki completely seems to check out, head lowered, and he does not blink.]
< ...Oookay then. Sorry, leashes creep me out, it's weird. What was that? Narcolepsy or something? >
no subject
[Marcel and Tobias seem to be completely fine having their own conversation when Toki's right there and he's pretty annoyed about it, but he has other problems at the moment. He's trying to be calm, but he didn't expect the more common loss of terrestrial sight to be so sudden. If it doesn't come back in a couple minutes, then he'll freak out.]
It was about rainbow sand, but there was no red. Make a note.
[Marcel does as asked, and then continues talking to Tobias. Because he's very interested.]
"Is your species telepathic, or is that something unique to you?"
no subject
< It's a me thing. I'm one of a kind, as far as I know. Normal unmagical hawk parents who never said a word. >
[Lies lies lies.]
no subject
Well! If you don't need anything for your non-existent nest, perhaps you would consider just making a donation instead~!
[He's completely forgotten Tobias already said he had no money.]
no subject
[Yeah, he's calling you out, Marcel, before you call him out. An excellent plan, totally foolproof.
And back to Toki.]
< Sorry, I mean it when I say I don't have any money. Or anything else to donate. >
no subject
Oh! Right! You said that, sorry!
[Then a thought strikes him.]
Hey! You're a bird! So, like, are there any accommodations you want? Like tree branch perches in all the classrooms!? You can go on my list!
no subject
< No, I think I'm okay. I was told a way to download books on my phone, it's small enough to carry, and I can sit on the tables. >
[Hmm...]
< I guess I could go around picking up lost change and donating that to you. It's easy to spot from the air. >
no subject
[He looks over his stacks of clothes and accessories.]
Well, a social experiment and I also kind of grew out of things.
[Both physically and otherwise. He's trying not to be so outlandish in his color choices moving forward.]
no subject
no subject
[He dumps the contents of one tub into another and sets the empty one off to the side.]
no subject
[It's totally allowed to be a little bit smug about having fantastic hawk eyesight. And wings. And the best view, anytime he wants.]
no subject
[One thing he'll do someday. Maybe.]
What's it like to fly? Which is kind of a stupid question I guess because you just... fly. You don't have anything to compare it to.
no subject
[A pause as he mulls it over. How to describe the wonder of it... he wishes everyone could have a shot at flying, instead of him trying to explain it with mere words.]
< It's hard. It takes a lot of work to get off the ground, it'll wear you out if you're flapping too much. But once you hit a patch of hot air, it gets easier. You do it right and the thermal lifts you, you barely have to work for it at all. Like a warm hand carrying you up. And it feels as if I can see the whole world below me. Humans can't see very far, compared to my normal self. >
no subject
I want-
[Tobias will never know what he wants, because he's no longer aware of what's happening in the present. Staring at nothing again...
A pinpoint of light turning into a line, like an old television set, and then expanding to fill his entire field of vision. There's quick black and white flashes, and then static-ridden orange and green and purple, repeating over and over. There are voices from somewhere, in a language he recognizes, but doesn't know. Laughter, but it's not ominous. It's like someone said something amusing. He can see outlines of figures in the static. Men sitting in chairs. They continue their conversation, one in a questioning tone like when he had been interview by the BBC. It clicks suddenly that the language is Spanish. He's heard it many times from Héctor, but he doesn't understand the words. Abruptly, the light and noise is gone.
... When the vision fades, he makes a mental note to ask Héctor what something means. Looking around, it's unfamiliar. He's forgotten what he was doing. Apparently, some sort of display of his clothes for some reason. What is he doing with all this stuff? It's just Marcel and Tobias around.
Oh, shit. It's happened again.]
Uhh... What is this about?
[He gestures at his whole set-up. He hasn't noticed the sign yet.]
no subject
< Uh, we were talking about what flying's like and... you're selling all the clothes you outgrew. I said I'd bring you lost change later, just for fun. >
