All right, guys. Let's get this meeting started. [ Carmen's pulled the students out for this floor meeting, and is sitting back casually in one of the common room's chairs. Dressed in black clothes but with a bright red hoodie, she appears pretty casual. ] First off, my name is Carmen Sandiego. Calling me Carmen is fine.

I'm pretty easy-going on rules. The only real rule I have is that we don't do things that'll hurt anybody else. Not just physically, we don't hurt people any way. Got it?

I am required to tell you not to go up on the roof, though. So, uh, don't. Or do, I guess. I don't really care, but if they tell me I have to find a way to punish you for doing it, I will.

Okay, great! You're excellent listeners. Any questions?

[ Casing Daybreak Academy ]

[ Carmen is, to the surprise of students but no faculty, a Thief. And despite her... introduction to the staff, what she considers her Practical Exam, Carmen hasn't really gotten to know the campus. She knows about a specific path into the Citadel, but for the general places on campus, she needs to know more.

Entrances, exits, security systems, weak points, strong points. She needs to see the campus as a thief would, because even if she doesn't plan to do any more thievery here, you never know what might come up. And, more to the point, she needs to know where V.I.L.E. will strike if they show up.

That's why students and staff might find Carmen all around campus. Always doing something innocuous - reading a book, going over brochures, shopping, messing around with her phone - but a good eye will notice that she's paying a lot more attention to her surroundings than anything else.

Feel free to spot her anywhere on campus, either noticing what she's up to or not. ]

[While Carmen was snooping about the faculty offices she heard someone talking in their office. That was perfectly normal.

What WASN'T normal was that Carmen didn't recognize the language the speaker was using. She was pretty good with languages, but this didn't sound like any language ever used on Earth.]

[ Despite what she wrote on the sign, Carmen doesn't know every language. There were plenty of places still where there could be many languages crammed into a small area, where each region had their own distinct language, and she couldn't have learned each of those. And plenty of remote tribes with whom Carmen had never had a chance of meeting.

But she expected, at least, that she could trace some linguistic roots. Find commonalities between a language she knows and an unknown one. This was... utterly alien to her. And the longer she lingered, the more sure of this she became.

Interesting.

Well, only one thing left to do. Time to knock.

KNOCK KNOCK ]

[There was a strange sound, like a small portal to another dimension that she was using to keep in contact with her order had just closed.]

[Ky quietly places a finger in his book as he notices Carmen seeming to be studying the shelves a little too much. Well then, he'll have to see what she's up to, speaking in French]

Sandiego, is there something you're looking for?

[He still has that odd accent to his voice, his expression was questioning, trying to gauge her actions]

[ And as casual as can be, her eyes are sliding over things as if she were paying no attention to them at all. Now that attention is on her, hers is on acting completely natural. ]

Not particularly. I just realized I haven't really familiarized myself with campus yet.

This place is huge. How long did it take you to get used to it?

[He considers the question, it's a fair one, his eyes making it's own sweep of the area]

A few months, to get the general lay out, a year to know where all the important places are. There is a reason why some students believe there are roaming rooms.

But that is a rumor.

[Carmen seems lovely, and he is pleased with the RA assignment thus far.]

Just one~! Are said rules retroactive!? Oh, wait! I have two questions~! Or it's not a question really, but I would like to partake in free language lessons~!

It's only retroactive if somebody's still hurting from your actions. I can't ignore it if somebody comes to me with a complaint, you know.

I can definitely offer language tutoring if you need it, though, [ small smirk ] whether or not you're breaking rules.

Which language?

[He's fairly certain there will be no complaints.]

French or English! I don't care which one~!

[ This kid sure isn't on her floor list. But he's here anyway, literally perched on the back of a chair in the common room with the rest of students. Does he even live here? Clearly not. ]

Yeah, uh. Roof's got some kind of eldritch horror dimension on it anyway. Just saying.

Then that's probably why there's a warning to not go up there. [ She says this matter of factly. ] Who are you, by the way?

Yeah, that scans.

[ He's being flippant but uh. He was legitimately traumatized enough to never go up there again, so. A+, good job Tyzias.

-- Oh wait, she asked him a question. ]

[Ren definitely notices Carmen's movements. Taking interest, he starts shadowing her a bit]

[ Carmen pulls up her hoodie as she makes her way into the so-called Theater she had been casing. As she does, another student moves in between her and Ren, cutting off his view -

and then she's just gone.

If he catches her, she's actually just moving off to the side within the Theater, which should be out of view from anybody outside. And then waits to see who follows. ]

[Two can play at the vanishing game. Summoning his Phantom Thief garb, Joker sneaks into the theater, quietly making his way to the catwalks while sticking to the shadows]

[Bee's down in the Legionnaire Quarters, hitting a punching bag. He's shirtless, and Carmen may notice a tattoo on his upper back. It's a runic matrix, worked into the shape of a red, robotic face. He spots Carmen out of the corner of his eye, and turns to her.]

Can I help you with something?

[ Carmen's decked out in a red hoodie and capris. Nothing to see here. ]

Just taking a look around. I realized I've been here for a bit and haven't even familiarized myself with everything this campus has to offer, you know?

Didn't mean to interrupt your workout.

"Nah, it's fine. I was just about done anyways." he says, pulling off his gloves.

"Daniel Kafer, but everyone around here calls me Bumblebee. Partly because I ask 'em to."

For the past few stops on Carmen's stroll around the academy grounds, there's always been someone in the background. A teenage girl, with dark skin, darker hair, runic tattoos, and most notably a mechanical arm. Like Carmen, she's always doing something innocuous, most often messing around with the designs of runic arrays in her notebook.

But then, in a desolate hallway that leads to a variety of useful shortcuts, she isn't there. A few minutes pass as the passing period starts and a flood of students rush through the hallway to their classes. As the tide subsides, there's a moment of quiet.

Then an explosion of magically charged air goes off right behind Carmen, immediately followed up by a flying titanium carbon alloy-reinforced side kick with a couple extra pinches of magical strength.

Carmen is observant. It comes with the territory, really. But more to the point, she was specifically scouting, observing. This included the exits, entrances, useful areas or possible tools... but it also meant that she was observing the flow of people.

A girl with a mechanical arm and runic tattoos stands out. Amidst other students, each with their own quirks and styles and unique features, she doesn't stand out, per se, but she's recognizable, which means something when Carmen spots her moving to all of the same places Carmen is heading. It means she's a tail.

It isn't a coincidence that Carmen makes her next stop in a hallway. People are heading to classes, but once the rooms nearby are full of students or vacant entirely, the hallways become isolated, quiet places, this one especially. She's hoping she can lure her tail out, engage in some light conversati---

Carmen shoots to the side as the sound of magic and flying person reaches her ears. If she wasn't already on edge, she'd have been hit for sure, and she doesn't like that.

So much for conversation. "Hey!"

Carmen can see Tyzias for the barest moment--unlike before, every inch of her is covered in some kind of dark metal alloy, streaked with glowing teal runes. Then she teleports. Again. Directly behind and to the left of Carmen, followed by that explosion of magically-charged displaced air. There's a brief twist of a claw, then Tyzias teleports again--only this time, only the explosion appears in front of Carmen. While she's hopefully distracted by that, Tyzias appears from behind and reaches around to try and loop a metal arm around Carmen's neck.

The rules are understood. [Don't hurt people and don't go on the roof, easy, got it.] Uh I don't have any questions, I think?

... Uh, but I could use some help with French too.

[ MAN, people said being an RA was hard. This was cakewalk so far. ]

I think we'll get along just fine, then. And yes, I'm definitely available for French tutoring.

[Kris blinks. That's it? Huh.]

Nah. I'm sure that won't be a problem.

[Frankly, if it was, she'd put a stop to it herself.]
