Despite… other disturbances, the flow of time is inexorable. And so too, is the beginning of classes. The bells of Daybreak Academy peal joyfully as students are roused from their beds far earlier than they would prefer to attend their new classes. The Professors, of course, are also back in it, their classrooms (presumably) neatly dusted and arranged for the fresh new faces of this year’s crop, eager and ready to learn. Presumably.

A. OPENING BANQUET

As is the custom of Daybreak, a grand sumptuous banquet has been prepared for the night following the first day of classes. With entire pigs spit-roasted over open flame, chicken and beef of all sorts, juices, wines and beers from all over Europe, and of course the best breads and chocolates as befits a French school, the banquet is truly one for the record books. Of course, they say that every year.

B. SYLLABUS HANDOUTS

Most teachers at this point are handing out the syllabi for their next class, although a few more aggressive ones may have already launched fully into teaching. If you have questions about this quarter’s curriculum, now’s the time to voice it.

C. MEET AND GREET

With the new school year comes new opportunities to forge lifelong friendships. And what better way to do that than by partaking in cheesy icebreakers courtesy of your RAs? While hardly mandatory, RAs are highly encouraged to turn out their entire floor by being as annoyingly peppy and persistent as possible. At a school like this, it’s important to make new friends!

D. SOMETHING BLEW UP AGAIN

Daybreak Academy is a bit of an unusual school by any conventional standards. Daemons, fairies and youkai studying alongside humans that can call upon arcane power and bring forth divine light are hardly your usual fare. And this, of course, means that it’s usually a matter of hours before something blows up somewhere on campus. For new students, this might be a startling, shocking experience. For seasoned students, well, it’s just that time again.

[Rebecca is in her room taking a brief rest between two classes that fortunately had some time between them, when suddenly, she isn't.

What Leo ends up seeing is a young girl popping into the space in front of him with a startled yelp. Somewhere along the way she had gotten flipped most of the way over, and so she lands pretty roughly on one shoulder, yelping again as she does so.]

Ow! Owowow what the fuck...

[Yeah uh, oops?]

[ eep! ]

That looked bad, are you okay?!

[ oh wow this was already bad but now it just got even worse. hurting little girls does not look good on anybody's personal history. in an impulse that might matter less to any teen that didn't look like an aquatic reptile man, he holds onto her back to prop her up. ]

[She weighs about as much as one would expect a seven-year-old kid to, so it's pretty easy to get her up into a sitting position. The shoulder she had landed on looks like it's bruised pretty damn good, and she's using her other arm to hold that arm still for a moment, but it fortunately doesn't look like she's actually busted anything.]

I'll be fine just— just gimme a minute.

[That same bruise is fading awfully quick.]

[ leo winces just looking at it. ]

Come on, you don't have to pretend to be tough, I'll get you to the clin--

Huh? [ does he need glasses or is that her ability? ] ... Do I need glasses or is that your ability?

[ stunned straight into thinking out loud. ]

[Once the bruise is completely gone, Rebecca lets go of her arm and rolls that shoulder a bit to make sure that it's all back to normal.]

Yeah, that's basically it, I heal way faster than most people. [It works on other people as well, so long as she's making direct contact and wants it to work.] Doesn't stop things from hurting when they happen and oh my god that really hurt, but I'm fine now so it's all good.

I mean... That's just being way too nice, isn't it?

[ he feels even worse for it. ]

Look, it was an accident, but I did hurt you. Let me like, treat you to ice cream or something at least.

[He's expecting her to be upset with him, it's pretty obvious, but she's not the kind of person who can really be mad, not unless something pushes her buttons really hard. With this being an accident and his expressing as much as immediately as he has, whatever reaction he had initially expected won't be coming.]

Well, maybe I'm too nice, then. [It's fine, Leo.

But if doing something to make up for it will help him feel better despite her telling him that things are okay...] I won't say no to ice cream though, if you wanna do that. Just don't expect me to go overboard on it, 'cause brain-freeze is still a pain in the butt.

Thanks. I mean, even if you really shouldn't be too nice, it's fine, you're like... eight.

[ well, about that... and before she can say anything leo's already talking again. his insecurity's like that. ]

Onward, then! To the ice cream stall! What's your pleasure, li'l miss?

[She's given no real chance to correct him before he decides to throw himself straight into actually going and getting ice cream. It's fine, she can tell him later; right now might not be the best time, anyway.]

Chocolate on a waffle cone. [The answer is quick and straightforward, and not any of the more-outlandish responses that might be expected of a kid, like, say, bubblegum. (She tried bubblegum flavor once and it was awful.)]

Ooh, yum. I'll have a strawberry and vanilla.

[ variety between licks is very important to him! he goes ahead and takes becca's order then lends it down to her, before taking his own. ]

Hope I didn't interrupt you from anything important...

Nah, I wasn't doing anything; just sitting around in my room, really. Got some free time between a couple classes, so I was kinda taking a break.

[Once it's been given to her, she straight up bites into hers rather than licking it.]

So, got a name? Mine's Rebecca. Or Becky if you want. [She's not planning on telling anybody about this little teleportation mishap or anything, she's just wondering who he is since she's new here.]

Leonardo! I'd prefer Leo. Pleasure, Becky. Uh, minus the first circumstances, but I guess given your mercy, you'd rather we forget about it.

--Actually... are you the Becky that Lia mentioned? Granted, I don't know how common that is as a name. [ she was pretty excited! ]

[Casual shrug. She's willing to drop it because ultimately no harm was actually done, and she has the impression that he would prefer to, so, consider that matter dropped.]

Oh, yeah, that's me. You a friend of hers, then? [Lia would be excited enough about one of her friends showing up here to go telling her other friends, wouldn't she?]
