Despite… other disturbances, the flow of time is inexorable. And so too, is the beginning of classes. The bells of Daybreak Academy peal joyfully as students are roused from their beds far earlier than they would prefer to attend their new classes. The Professors, of course, are also back in it, their classrooms (presumably) neatly dusted and arranged for the fresh new faces of this year’s crop, eager and ready to learn. Presumably.

A. OPENING BANQUET

As is the custom of Daybreak, a grand sumptuous banquet has been prepared for the night following the first day of classes. With entire pigs spit-roasted over open flame, chicken and beef of all sorts, juices, wines and beers from all over Europe, and of course the best breads and chocolates as befits a French school, the banquet is truly one for the record books. Of course, they say that every year.

B. SYLLABUS HANDOUTS

Most teachers at this point are handing out the syllabi for their next class, although a few more aggressive ones may have already launched fully into teaching. If you have questions about this quarter’s curriculum, now’s the time to voice it.

C. MEET AND GREET

With the new school year comes new opportunities to forge lifelong friendships. And what better way to do that than by partaking in cheesy icebreakers courtesy of your RAs? While hardly mandatory, RAs are highly encouraged to turn out their entire floor by being as annoyingly peppy and persistent as possible. At a school like this, it’s important to make new friends!

D. SOMETHING BLEW UP AGAIN

Daybreak Academy is a bit of an unusual school by any conventional standards. Daemons, fairies and youkai studying alongside humans that can call upon arcane power and bring forth divine light are hardly your usual fare. And this, of course, means that it’s usually a matter of hours before something blows up somewhere on campus. For new students, this might be a startling, shocking experience. For seasoned students, well, it’s just that time again.

[The kitten tried to stand up on its hind legs and fell over awkwardly while making a weird sounding mew.]

[As someone who was never allowed to own a pet due to horrible allergies she had as a child and no time after that, she stares at the cat in complete confusion. She kneels down, unsure exactly what she should be doing.]

Are you dying? I hope they didn't turn you into a cat just to poison you.

[Kohaku shook her head and tried to talk again but feline vocal chords aren't made for human language so it just came out as a weird noise.

Now that the disorientation was clearing, she was able to start stringing thoughts together again. She was a CAT, and a tiny one, as best she could tell, which was humiliating. BUT she was also by the alchemy labs so someone in there could probably just whip up an antidote for her. She'd just need someone to open the door for her.

She looked up at Sarona hopefully, since she couldn't talk, then set out towards the front door which she was pretty sure was just around the corner. She only stumbled slightly before getting the hang of walking on all fours like this.]

[She follows the student-turned-cat's movements with her eyes for a moment before leaning down to pick up the pile of clothes it had just left on the ground. Or at least some of it. They se follows the little cat around the side of the building.]

You know, you're gonna need these if you turn back into a person in the middle of a hallway.

[She froze for a moment, realizing that appearing naked in the middle of school was literally a nightmare she had had before. She made a note to thank this kind hearted stranger when she was human again.

When she got to the door she took a moment to analyze just how impossible it was for her to open it in her current shape and, with a heavy heart, meowed at Sarona for help. It appeared to be the only noise she could really make right now.]

[It is pretty obvious what the kitten wants so Sarona moves around it to hold the door open.]

Come on, hopefully we'll figure out who can fix this. I'd do an inscription but alchemy and runes don't always mix well.

[Have you ever seen a cat nod in agreement? It looks weird.

Now let’s see here, there should be an alchemy professor around here somewhere who can help her...]

[A cat nodding is weird. Cats shouldn't nod unless it involves begging for food or something cute. People don't do Cat very well.

But they do look around and Sarona is keeping an eye out. She sees two alchemy classrooms down the hall. One of them as a class going and the other is wide open, no sound.]

[Another cat nod. Kohaku walked up to the door with the class in it and made a futile effort to reach the door knob. She was starting to get a whole new appreciation for how big humans are compared to an awful lot of animals.

Ugh no good. She looked back at Sarona again. Help a soul in need once more?]

[Sarona wonders when the cat is going to accept that it is currently a "cat" and thus can't use its hands or arms in a way that a human would. It's almost kind of adorable how long its taking to figure it out. Can't blame them for trying, at least.]

Hold on a minute.

[She moves around the cat once again to open the door, not caring what they may be interrupting.]

I'm gonna hope the people in here are the ones who caused this, but I don't care, we just need a fix.
