CLASSES BEGIN

CLASSES BEGIN
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation
Despite… other disturbances, the flow of time is inexorable. And so too, is the beginning of classes. The bells of Daybreak Academy peal joyfully as students are roused from their beds far earlier than they would prefer to attend their new classes. The Professors, of course, are also back in it, their classrooms (presumably) neatly dusted and arranged for the fresh new faces of this year’s crop, eager and ready to learn. Presumably.
A. OPENING BANQUET
As is the custom of Daybreak, a grand sumptuous banquet has been prepared for the night following the first day of classes. With entire pigs spit-roasted over open flame, chicken and beef of all sorts, juices, wines and beers from all over Europe, and of course the best breads and chocolates as befits a French school, the banquet is truly one for the record books. Of course, they say that every year.
B. SYLLABUS HANDOUTS
Most teachers at this point are handing out the syllabi for their next class, although a few more aggressive ones may have already launched fully into teaching. If you have questions about this quarter’s curriculum, now’s the time to voice it.
C. MEET AND GREET
With the new school year comes new opportunities to forge lifelong friendships. And what better way to do that than by partaking in cheesy icebreakers courtesy of your RAs? While hardly mandatory, RAs are highly encouraged to turn out their entire floor by being as annoyingly peppy and persistent as possible. At a school like this, it’s important to make new friends!
D. SOMETHING BLEW UP AGAIN
Daybreak Academy is a bit of an unusual school by any conventional standards. Daemons, fairies and youkai studying alongside humans that can call upon arcane power and bring forth divine light are hardly your usual fare. And this, of course, means that it’s usually a matter of hours before something blows up somewhere on campus. For new students, this might be a startling, shocking experience. For seasoned students, well, it’s just that time again.

Ana it is, then. Been here long? [The assumption is yes, but she'll ask anyway just to be sure.]

[ so still relatively new. ]
This is my first official semester here at the academy.
[ and yes. the lunar harvest sure was....something alright. it's a good thing ana stayed indoors the entire time. her first encounter with a hungry vampire was not fun and she was not willing to take that risk again. ]

[Ana looks a bit older than her—in terms of actual age, not just Becky's own looking like a kid—so it's assumed that they're at least a couple grades apart. Not that she's going to ask about that or anything; it's something that she'll probably find out on her own anyway.
While there are some things she doesn't particularly need to know right now, she is a bit curious about some of the other students here, but she also doesn't want to go asking any wrong questions, so:] What can you tell me 'bout yourself? [...express an interest in getting to know people, and let Ana decide what she's willing to say.]
no subject
[ she lets out a dry little laugh. it isn't bitter, but it isn't entirely pleasant either. she won't elaborate on that, though. for now, she'd rather just answer becky's question with some surface-level material. ]
I've moved around a lot, if that's of any interest to you. I've lived in Japan, Britain, and most recently the United States.
[ she gives becky a smile. ] Would you kindly return the favor?
no subject
Most of her previous homes, she doesn't recall much about, as they hadn't been particularly memorable, or were the one place she had wanted to forget. Her time in New York was probably the time she'd enjoyed the most.]
And since I'm sure it's gonna come up at some point: I'm seventeen. [May as well get that out of the way now.] If you want proof, I've got proof.
no subject
[ well, there's the confirmation from ana herself. though beck's moved around a lot more than she has, ana is no stranger to the feeling.
she doesn't seem to bat much of an eye when becky says she's seventeen, though. ]
Somehow, being in this academy makes that a little more believable. I suppose you're used to getting a lot of disbelief about your age, hm?
no subject
In response to Ana's next question, she shrugs.] I've been this way since I was seven. It used to be people thought I was just small for my age, but then they started getting pretty annoying about it for awhile once I was old enough that that stopped being believable. I'm used to it now, though, yeah.
no subject
[ because boy oh boy does she know how annoying that can get!!! ]
no subject
Thanks.
no subject
[ there's no need for thanks, really, but the sentiment is appreciated nevertheless. ]
I figured that you were older than you looked when you first spoke, if that helps.

She briefly thinks about what would have given her away. The lack of any significant reaction to that explosion might have done it. If it wasn't that, then it was probably just the general way she was carrying herself, acting her real age rather than what she looked like. She doesn't think she did anything else that would have said "not actually a child."]
Yeah, it does.
[Since she's given her own age, she wonders:] Is it alright to ask how old you are? I don't wanna make any assumptions and then turn out to be wrong or anything.
no subject
Of course it is. I'm eighteen, now.
[ turned eighteen in july, too. ]
I appreciate your consideration, but I like to think my physical appearance matches up to my age.
