Despite… other disturbances, the flow of time is inexorable. And so too, is the beginning of classes. The bells of Daybreak Academy peal joyfully as students are roused from their beds far earlier than they would prefer to attend their new classes. The Professors, of course, are also back in it, their classrooms (presumably) neatly dusted and arranged for the fresh new faces of this year’s crop, eager and ready to learn. Presumably.

A. OPENING BANQUET

As is the custom of Daybreak, a grand sumptuous banquet has been prepared for the night following the first day of classes. With entire pigs spit-roasted over open flame, chicken and beef of all sorts, juices, wines and beers from all over Europe, and of course the best breads and chocolates as befits a French school, the banquet is truly one for the record books. Of course, they say that every year.

B. SYLLABUS HANDOUTS

Most teachers at this point are handing out the syllabi for their next class, although a few more aggressive ones may have already launched fully into teaching. If you have questions about this quarter’s curriculum, now’s the time to voice it.

C. MEET AND GREET

With the new school year comes new opportunities to forge lifelong friendships. And what better way to do that than by partaking in cheesy icebreakers courtesy of your RAs? While hardly mandatory, RAs are highly encouraged to turn out their entire floor by being as annoyingly peppy and persistent as possible. At a school like this, it’s important to make new friends!

D. SOMETHING BLEW UP AGAIN

Daybreak Academy is a bit of an unusual school by any conventional standards. Daemons, fairies and youkai studying alongside humans that can call upon arcane power and bring forth divine light are hardly your usual fare. And this, of course, means that it’s usually a matter of hours before something blows up somewhere on campus. For new students, this might be a startling, shocking experience. For seasoned students, well, it’s just that time again.

[ Metafors..... Is this cute or despair-inducing, James can't tell. But he's not here to judge and comment on the sign-up sheets. That's unprofessional. He just gotta file it away, even if it's with an ominous little smile. ]

Thank you for participating! Oh, for supernatural history, I can probably help you out a little myself. Between all of the... well, you know, and Keith bringing back a princess from a lost civilization, I've been reading... more than usual. And the usual is a lot.

Really!? That would be awesome, because it's like the worst subject ever and I was-

[He spaces out for a few seconds with a short vision... The creature in the water. An amorphous black inky blob with a single terrifying eye like Xelvak's. The iris swirling in hypnotic rainbows. The feeling of absolute dread and despair... He can't breathe. It's the second vision he's had about it. He knows, he knows it's another one. A second Herald.]

It's coming!

[A horrified whisper.]

It's not hard to tell by the tone of Toki's voice what he's referring to, but James desperately wishes that his instincts are wrong. That the Hunt has set his nerves off and now he's being paranoid.

But his whole body tenses up, heartbeat accelerating unpleasantly. ]

Already?!

[yokeye]

[It takes him a minute to calm down. It's not happening right now. It's okay right now.]

I saw... I saw it a few days ago too, the first time. I don't think it will be here for a while, like Xelvak took months, but... no one was told until... I could be wrong. I know I could be wrong, but it feels the same.

[Marcel clears his throat. He allowed discourse with Maverick because no one else was there, but this is out in the open and students are milling about everywhere. Toki nods.]

Not here. But you know where my paintings are. I have to go now.

[ James nods. His breathing is forcibly slow, but even though he's trying to calm himself, it's not really working. ]

I will come see you after all the ceremonies are over. It might end up pretty late, if that's alright by you?

[ They could easily wait until tomorrow to talk about this. James hasn't slept much last night, thanks to the Hunt aftermath, but he's not going to be sleeping now either, with thoughts of a Herald looming overhead. ]

[yokeye]

[Toki doesn't think that's a good idea.]

I shouldn't have said anything. Don't come. I can't give you my interpretations.

[Not yet. Not while Marcel is still around and he's being watched constantly.]
