CLASSES BEGIN

CLASSES BEGIN

Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

Despite… other disturbances, the flow of time is inexorable. And so too, is the beginning of classes. The bells of Daybreak Academy peal joyfully as students are roused from their beds far earlier than they would prefer to attend their new classes. The Professors, of course, are also back in it, their classrooms (presumably) neatly dusted and arranged for the fresh new faces of this year’s crop, eager and ready to learn. Presumably.

A. OPENING BANQUET

As is the custom of Daybreak, a grand sumptuous banquet has been prepared for the night following the first day of classes. With entire pigs spit-roasted over open flame, chicken and beef of all sorts, juices, wines and beers from all over Europe, and of course the best breads and chocolates as befits a French school, the banquet is truly one for the record books. Of course, they say that every year.

B. SYLLABUS HANDOUTS

Most teachers at this point are handing out the syllabi for their next class, although a few more aggressive ones may have already launched fully into teaching. If you have questions about this quarter’s curriculum, now’s the time to voice it.

C. MEET AND GREET

With the new school year comes new opportunities to forge lifelong friendships. And what better way to do that than by partaking in cheesy icebreakers courtesy of your RAs? While hardly mandatory, RAs are highly encouraged to turn out their entire floor by being as annoyingly peppy and persistent as possible. At a school like this, it’s important to make new friends!

D. SOMETHING BLEW UP AGAIN

Daybreak Academy is a bit of an unusual school by any conventional standards. Daemons, fairies and youkai studying alongside humans that can call upon arcane power and bring forth divine light are hardly your usual fare. And this, of course, means that it’s usually a matter of hours before something blows up somewhere on campus. For new students, this might be a startling, shocking experience. For seasoned students, well, it’s just that time again.

*She swears what he said is English, but it also doesn't quite make sense. Sense, of course, not being a thing you find a lot of when talking about stolen or lost names.*

Woke up, not... changed, like it was always a part of you? Cause that's the bit I can't seem to get. You're like one of those masked ghost things, but also not dead. Or masky.

Honestly the easiest bit to get is the fae name magic thing going on.

We still on the "everything is complicated" thing? Because it doesn't get much less so.

[For that, his tone is dry.]

As for the mask...

[She only gets that for a warning before he's drawing his hand down over his face. A mask forms under his fingers, reminiscent of a skull, red stripes to one side. He leaves it for a second and then waves it off to dematerialize.]

I thought I was human. Not so much. Apparently I was born this way, like you said, with everything non-human supressed. One day we tried to wake up some fae magic and got a little more than bargained for. Our soul couldn't handle the strain and split in two. One got the mage power with fae-contract magic, and a little bit of candle spirit. The other got to be the fae and the wierd not-undead daemon.

You get one guess how well that went over and where my name went.

*If he was expecting her to jump at the sudden mask- nope, nothing like that. Maya's cool and nonplussed. Like Maya usually is. Inwardly, yes, that was a surprise.*

So... your name wasn't stolen, you lost it in the divorce.

*Well, that was the best metaphor she could have, if you split a man in two. It didn't exactly answer why he couldn't get himself a new name after all that. It did cover why his sound was so... this. Layers and layers of sound but also somewhat missing.*

I guess now that you've shared all that... I hear magic. How I could just know what you were without trying, That's all there, just- well, way more terrifying with how its all interacting as sound.

[He might have been anticipating it a little, but rather than be put out that it doesn't, he looks at her more thoughtfully. Perhaps he's just the slightest bit more at ease.

He barks a laugh.]

Lost in the divorce! I like that one!

[He listens, head tilting, as he finally gets an explanation in turn. Hearing magic, huh?]

Geez, this whole time I've been inflicting you with a one man jam band. World's worst jam band. Must be a pain in the ass to sleep at this place.

*Her powers never stop her from sleeping, her mind does that all on its own.*

It's not the layers of magic on you that's the problem. It's- I have no idea what I'm hearing that's really making you unnerving. But it isn't you, it's just- coming from you.

*Maya is very good at explaining, I swear.*

I mean- the fact that you're half of who you were is certainly weird, but not bothering me.

[He lifts a brow, staring at her for a long moment. Then he shrugs his shoulders.]

Beats me. I'm entirely me.

[He's already tried calling for the Old Man. It didn't go anywhere. He hums.]

There was something weird that caused me to separate in the first place. That shouldn't technically be possible. We're multiple consciousnesses but one body. Until now. Maybe it's that.

*She couldn't be sure of that, but that was mostly due to how much of him was just noise. Trying to focus on one was a lot more work than most normal people.*

Might have to do with that, or whatever did that. Can't really be sure. Might be entirely unrelated.

So... how long ago did you and he split?

[Entirely unrelated. Yeah, could be. His existence was a mess and he knew it.]

Depends. If you mean the whole being two people thing, we were fifteen. Seventeen now. But I assume you mean waltzing out here on my own. I'd probably pin that around May or June sometime.

[He hadn't entirely been paying attention at that point. The days were blurring.]
