And gaze upon the rivers and valleys of the mortal realm
Who: Zagreus, Prince of Tartarus
What: Culture shock
When: Early October
Where: First prompt in Greece, other prompts at Daybreak
Warnings: We shall see
-1: One phonecall?-
The other day, there was a report of an incident that came to Daybreak about a man who apparently didn't know what telephones are but could lift cars with his bare hands and had been threatening the police with "weapons made out of shadows". He was, at the moment, cooling his heels in a prison in Athens, pumped full of enough tranquilizer darts to knock out an elephant and still awake, if groggy.
It's the kind of thing the school often sends a team to look into.
-2: Too bright-
Not long ago, a team was sent out to Greece to check something weird out. Just now, they came back as their helicopter touched down. An imposingly tall young man stepped out dressed in a goddamn toga and sandals, looking supremely off balance. Especially when the sun hit him in the face and he winced, shading his eyes. Which was odd because it was kind of cloudy and not terribly bright out.
But then, he WAS awfully pale. Maybe he's a vampire?
-3: Godly appetite-
Inside now, at the cafeteria. Zagreus has procured a pair of sunglasses, which makes the mortal world less painfully bright, and is in high spirits as he puts away a frankly staggering amount of food. He waved when he saw someone staring.
He had a cup of cola, which he used to gesture you over. "Care to join me? There's no wine, but this fizzy stuff isn't terrible, and there's enough to eat to make up for it! I'm not even sure what half this stuff is!"
He peered at a california roll, then shrugged and popped it in his mouth with his fingers. After swallowing enough to be polite he added on "And not a single bloody pomegranate in sight!" with a laugh, though it wasn't clear what was funny about that.

A demi-god, hmm? Your kind is pretty rare these days. And from the smell about you, I'd say you're one of Hades! How's he been, It's been a while since I've seen him.
[She pulls out a brush and draws a circle in the air. Suddenly, Zagreus has much more lucidity.]
no subject
...The woman outside the cell gave him pause, though.]
You know my father?

Certainly not the Hades I know, then. The aspect I'm familiar with would always allow his children the world above. No, I won't take you back to Tartarus. I do, however, have a suggestion, if you care to listen.
no subject
What that?
no subject

[Despite his words, the reluctant prince had to admit that the mortal world was FAR stranger than he had been expecting. Searching for his hidden mother would be no simple task.]

But...she was right he still didn't smell evil.]
Heh. You're hard to argue with, aren't you? And the mortal realm is far stranger than I imagined.

[Zagreus stood, back to his normal strength.]
Show me this school of yours.
no subject
[With that, she steps into the other room.]

"Haha, it's good to see a young man enjoying his food! Though, I must say that I haven't seen you around before - a new student?"
...How odd. There was - a nagging feeling of...something there, though it seemed to be faint. A feeling of...hm.
Should this young man be standing in front of him right now, like this...?
no subject
That's a tricky one, isn't it?]
I suppose that's what they said. I've had plenty of tutors, but I guess I've never been to an actual school. This could be fun!
no subject
Moriarty nods at the comment, giving a quick grin.]
Oh, I'm sure you'll find it's plenty fun here - there's always something happening on campus, at the very least!
[He extends a hand, still all smiles.]
James Moriarty - I'm the professor of Mathematics here, so you will most likely be seeing more of me in the future. And yourself?
no subject
[He took Moriarty's hand and shook it with a firm grip. His skin was very warm, like he had a fever.]
I'll admit mathematics isn't my strongest point, but hey that's what a school is for, right?
no subject
[He notes the warmness, though.]
Tartarus? Am I remiss in assuming that you might know of Hades, then?

He doesn't have any other non-suspicious reason not to make himself useful, so he's just sort of, you know, casually hanging out in the quad, because this isn't a social ambush or anything. At least Therion's just supposed to help him get settled. It's not a permanent buddy arrangement. When he sees Zagreus shading his eyes like that, he asks:]
Are you all right?
[His Greek is pretty passable, given it's not his favorite language. Too bad Modern Greek differs grammatically, syntactically, phonetically, and lexically from its linguistic ancestors.]
no subject
He took a stab at responding, even so.]
It's too bloody bright up here. And cold.
[Ancient Greek is, of course, just as incomprehensible to Therion as modern Greek is to Zagreus.]
no subject
...]
What?
[Shit, is that Greek? Is he having a stroke?]
no subject
[He switched to Arabic.]
Can you understand me?
no subject
Yeah, but I couldn't before. I thought you spoke Greek?

[It's a beautifully cloudy European day.]
Huh. Compared to what?
no subject
no subject
You could get a hat. They sell things like that in the Market Square. That way.
[He points.]
no subject
[He'll just kinda set off marketwards.]
no subject
[He'll be fine.]

...Also there's something strange about him, asides from the get up, that puts Adelaide on edge. Still, that doesn't stop her from calling out to him.]
Are you alright?
no subject
no subject
[Conveniently, Adelaide hasn't adjusted well to the colder falls, and she's wearing a scarf she unwinds and holds out.]
It might not do much with how exposed you are, but it might help a little bit?
no subject
[He stared at the scarf for a moment, then realized what it was for and took it with a grateful look and spent a moment trying to figure out how to sort it out.
He got it eventually. Scarves aren't hard.]
A thoughtful gift. And it should be reciprocated, so...
[Thinking...]
Aha! I have just the thing.
[Zagreus produces a black shawl, which does little for the cold but is very light and seems to almost glow with darkness, if that were possible.]
no subject
Oh, you don't have to...
[But then he's pulling out a shawl anyways, something that looks decidedly magical.]
Oh, wow. Why's it look like that?
no subject
It was made by my...I guess she's my stepmother? She kind of has a darkness theme going on.
no subject
Probably.]
Oh. Well, it's very nice!
[And she'll just wrap it around her shoulders.]
no subject
no subject
But...you might be better off inside? It might not be as bright.
no subject
[He shot another look up at the sky as they started making their way towards a building.]
How do you deal with it?
no subject
[She gives him a cheerful smile.]
Or you find ways to make it easier to handle.
no subject
I probably sound pretty ridiculous, don't I?
