Who: Anastasia and you!
What: A network post + Halloween shopping
When: Throughout October
Where: Daybreak and Soleil
Warnings: n/a
network. un: anarose
Hello, Daybreak Academy. I couldn't help but notice that more extracurricular organizations are popping up, and I wanted to do a little survey, if you will: Would anyone be interested in joining a literature club? Perhaps one with bi-weekly readings, meetings, and discussions about all sorts of texts, both fiction and non-fiction? I suppose having free food at every meeting would also be enticing, wouldn't it? :)
Please do let me know if you are interested in such a thing. I will see to starting one up if it seems like there's a need for a club like this on campus.
lumiere dorms.
[ in lumiere's dormitory, the smell of something savory fills the first floor. it smells warm and enticing, and moving closer to the kitchen will reveal that this is the smell of curry.
and it certainly smells spicy.
anastasia is over by the stove, using a ladle to lightly stir the pot of curry. there's also a sign on the counter next to her that reads: "Hello, I made too much curry for dinner tonight, so please help yourself. - Ana" when she sees someone come over, ana will turn her head and smile delightfully at the newcomer. ]
Hello! Have you come to try some of this? It's a little spicy, mind you, but I assure you it's edible and hopefully delicious, even.
[ well that's sure promising, isn't it? ]
soleil: costume shopping.
[ later in the month, ana can be found in soleil's commerce plaza, sifting through a rack of halloween costumes. there's a variety of them, but nothing out of the ordinary, which ana quite frankly finds disappointing. ]
I thought the point of dressing up for Halloween was to look scary...
[ it's clear that none of these costumes are to her liking. help her look for something? or convince her that maybe one of these costumes might suit her? ]
wildcard.
[ hit me up with anything. if you want to plot something specifically, feel free to ping me at
amplitude or coco#6616 on discord. ]

how participatory would that someone have to be because frankly I can read just fine not being in a club
no subject
I suppose that'd be up to you; I'm not a fan of keeping people beholden to requirements, you see. I just thought it'd be more fun to analyze and discuss readings with other people, like any other book club.
Sometimes a book is just so fascinating that you want to share it with others and get other people to pick it up too, right?
no subject
sure I'm dying to have other people read the mystery of the exploding teeth and other curiosities from the history of medicine
here's a preview: ass fireworks and dick padlocks
people are fucking WILD
no subject
[ smileys...smileys everywhere. ]
That sounds absolutely fascinating, but also very painful. What book are you reading?
no subject
read the mystery of the exploding teeth etc etc start of last semester
nowadays I dunno what to read because I can't find this fucking historical vampire battle book florida woman talked about or some ye olde radiance technique manual
no subject
The possibilities are endless.
If I do start it up, you must talk about the book with exploding teeth, if only to satisfy my curiosity. Deal?
no subject
could also (hypothetically) bring my copy so someone else (a hypothetical someone natch) could read it themself
no subject
I don't believe we've met before, by the way. Forgive me for forgetting to do a proper introduction; my name is Anastasia, but you can just call me Ana.
no subject
long as it isn't all sweet crap anyway
maverick
and proper introductions are pretty damn overrated tbh
no subject
You think so?
I think they're quite nice.
It's nice to meet you nevertheless, Maverick.

fuckers better not touch my shit with greasy fingers though, I'll throw down

And I will make sure to alert you once we get things up and running.
dorms
Hey, Ana.
[Though it's not her favorite thing, Becky certainly does like SPICY stuff, so this is actually kind of tempting.]
Just so I know what I'm getting into here, how spicy is 'a little spicy'?
Re: dorms
[ so like. it's pretty spicy, apparently? hard to say for sure but the smell is definitely telling. it actually burns, just a little, the closer becky gets to the curry. ]
Would you like to try a small spoonful before I make you a bowl? That may be a safer way to go.
no subject
But, Becky is largely incapable of being sick herself, so the worst-case scenario with her would likely be just some moments of extreme discomfort, and it's really not so bad if she expects it.]
Nah, let's just go for it.
no subject
[ becky, you're a brave soul. the curry isn't the spiciest it could be but ana did add a little too much spice, there. still, at least it smells good? and there's probably water in the fridge or something that they can drink if it's too much.
ana uses her ladle and pours both of them a bowl. ]
Cheers to a new semester?
1/2
While it's a bit more SPICY than anticipated, Becky tries to keep her reaction fairly subdued. That doesn't stop her from reacting at all, as she still briefly makes one heck of a face on the first bite (she tried. she didn't succeed.), but then she just keeps at it because it's fine; this isn't the hottest thing she's ever had.]
2/2
Hoo, this is a bit more than I was expecting. I like it.
no subject
ana eats slower than becky. she needs a little more time to digest all the spices, but more than anything, she's glad becky likes it. ]
I'm glad to hear that! Truly, it's only my second or third time trying this recipe out, so...
no subject
What other sorts of stuff have you done before?
no subject
[ becky is such a good soul, gosh. ana's practically beaming at this point because yes, this cooking experiment really does seem to be a success...! ]
Well... I normally microwave my meals, you see, but I was looking to try some healthier options. I'm not sure if you could really call this healthy but it's certainly better than instant noodles.
Soleil
The purpose is blending in. Keep the monsters and spirits out to carry off the children from taking them away by making them think they are one of their own.
[She leans on a nearby table.]
So what are you trying to blend in with?
no subject
[ hmm. interesting! that's not a story ana's heard of before. ]
Some sort of ghoul, possibly. Or a ghost. I'm not sure if that's helpful, but I wanted to do something a little more than just a bedsheet with holes for eyes cut out.
no subject
[She moves around the costume racks toward the isle of make up and cosmetic props.] Over this way.
no subject
[ ana trails off, though, because on their way to the other isle is something sparkly. something shiny hanging.
it's a mermaid costume.
she stops and looks at it for a moment. ]
...You know, this may be a better idea...
no subject
Are you trying to blend in or stand out? Not judging, just asking. That outfit is the stand out variety. Elegant, but erotic.
no subject
[ a cheeky grin, then: ]
I don't think it's too inappropriate.
no subject
[She looks it over.] You might need some good heels for that one, since the tail is so long. Don't want to trip over it.
[Says the girl who is almost six feet tall and shouldn't ever wear high-heeled shoes, but she does what she wants.]
no subject
[ even if her boyfriend would probably enjoy it if she bought one of those, but DETAILS. she nods at the girl's suggestion. ]
That's a good idea. I suppose I'd also need to be careful as I walk since the tail might be restrictive.
no subject
[She gives a little wink.] I've never worn something that tight myself, but cute girls in cute costumes can never go wrong.
no subject
[ it's a very good suggestion. at sarona's comment though, ana chuckles and shakes her head. ] Oh, please. I'd hardly call myself 'cute', but I'm very flattered.
[ a beat, then: ]... I feel as though I've seen you at the Academy before?
no subject
[If there's one thing Sarona can't stand, it's girls who put down their own looks.]
And I don't see why you wouldn't have seen me around before. I'm all over the campus most of the day. You live in Lumière, right? I live in Aube.
no subject
[ she's still a little bashful but at least she's accepting the compliment...! ]
Yes, I do. We must have passed each other quite frequently, then -- my name is Anastasia, but you can call me Ana.

I could use some assistance in setting this up, if you were perhaps interested in that...

You were the first person who came to mind when I thought of potential club advisors. Does that work with you?

I'm in, if you do. I kind of wanted once since all the others started, I just didn't think I'd really be up to founding it myself.

In the meantime, please do tell me about what sorts of books you like to read!

I suppose I would be interested if you're going between both types like that. I don't think we had one at my old school...

Tragic, that you didn't have one at your old school. Were there not many book lovers?
