[OPEN]
Who: Ekkehardt, open
When: Throughout November
Where: Classrooms, campus, infirmary, etc
Warnings: Mentions of wound care, field medicine, blood, etc for prompt 1, and suturing/surgical incisions for prompt 2. If anything else comes up, I'll put it there.
A. First Aid
[ Ekkehardt doesn't hold a lot of classes. His work as a TA and infirmary duties generally give him all the work he needs, and then some. But sometimes, he makes exceptions.
He paces back and forth in the front of the classroom, hands behind his back, posture straight. His voice, normally quiet, is something he now projects. ]
As you've no doubt already realised, many of you who are combatants - and even those of you who are not - may well find yourselves responsible for your own lives or another's. While not all of you will be interested in unglamorous things like wound care, in the event that you find yourself without ready assistance, it may save your life, or the life of someone you care about.
[ He goes on to demonstrate basic care for injuries - what to do, what not to do, and so on. Much of it has to do with cleaning injuries, bandaging them, and common techniques to deal with cuts, burns, broken bones, sprains, poisons and other hazards they might encounter in the field.
Those who are attentive may notice that this is entirely nonmagical care, which is unusual given Ekkehardt uses plenty of magic himself. He does go into a few common runes for making clean water and fire and the like, but those seem to almost be afterthoughts. ]
While I don't expect you to memorise these things in one sitting, you should at least make an attempt to fix them in your mind. Do you have any questions?
B. Sewing...practice...??
[ The class that follows the first starts, at least initially, in the same classroom; however, this one comes with a warning that it's not suitable for those who are squeamish at the sight of open injuries or needles. ]
[ The room this class ends up in is more metal and stone than wood. On the centre table lies what looks like a mannequin, if mannequins were covered with human skin. Trays of needles, bandages, and various kinds of surgical-grade thread are set up within easy reach.
Ekkehardt produces a knife and just starts making injuries (and they do look alarmingly realistic - they even 'bleed' realistically) as he explains the exercise. (He also takes the time to explain that this is not, in fact, a real dead body of any kind, and it's just spelled to look and behave like one). ]
On the battlefield, you may need to close or treat serious injuries on yourself or on an ally until further help arrives. You might not have access to surgical tools, but your knowledge might mean the preservation of another's life or limb.
I'll be having you suture these injuries, or clean and bandage them, depending on their severity. I won't be telling you that - that will be up to you to determine.
If this gets too much for you, you're free to leave at any time.
[ He'll watch carefully as people work, mostly correcting them gently or simply observing them. Very rarely, he'll offer a compliment for competent work. ]
C1. Research
[ Ekkehardt is in the infirmary as usual, but this time he has an awful lot of books piled on his desk. Looking closely will reveal that they're almost all medical manuals, as up to date as he can get them. His laptop is also open to reveal...medical journal papers about recent advancements.
He himself is reading a large volume, completely absorbed. He's quick to respond if someone calls out his name or indicates they need his attention loudly enough, though.
Or you could take the opportunity to mess with him while he's not as aware of his surroundings as usual. It's up to you. ]
C2. [CLOSED TO HIEKE] Tutoring
[ Ekkehardt's stack of books hasn't grown any larger, but neither has it shrunk. The only thing that's really changed is that some of it has transferred itself to Hieke's desk. He has a manual open, and is pointing out a paragraph to Hieke. ]
...and that's it. Do you have any questions about this segment?
D. Anywhere else
[ When not doing delightful things like holding lessons on how to treat injuries in an emergency, Ekkehardt can be found in all sorts of places, but usually in his room on Lumiere's first floor or strolling around campus. He doesn't mind being bothered. ]

[Definitely not conspicuous at all.]

He's decided to leave it long these past few days, with bandages that he can braid or unbraid as he feels like. For whatever reason, he's feeling more self-indulgent than usual. It is, therefore, ripe for a small child's curiosity. ]
no subject
...
[She starts trying to braid it back up. Not exactly sure if she's doing it the same way Ekkehardt does or not. Probably not as professional either. But, she's helping!!]

...
Eventually, though, he leans forward and finds weight that wasn't there before, and glances back. ]
Enjoying yourself?

Yesss~
[Innocent as ever.]

And what kind of hairstyle have you given me today?
no subject
I was fixing it!
B
She is, however, also doing the suturing with the quick precision she applies to most physical tasks.]
Wow I never thought I'd get a whole new reason not to get stabbed out of this.
no subject
The remark does get a slight, amused noise out of him, though. ]
Stab wounds - especially if they're deep - tend to be troublesome, yes. As for gross...well, just be thankful I haven't put injuries there that you have to clean first.
[ He'll leave it to her imagination to come up with the kind of horrible things that could get in an injury during the heat of combat. He's seen some shit. ]
no subject
[Carefully trying off the end of the thread now... And also... surreptitiously wiping her hands off on her pants.]
Okay how does that look?
no subject
[ He looks it over. ]
A nice, thorough job. Well done.
Do you have any other questions?

Sometimes the patient is used to such treatment, or they're already far gone enough that suturing their injuries is the least of their problems...but sometimes it's the first time they've been injured so badly, or they have bad experiences with such things. It varies. At that point, treatment includes soothing them or making sure they don't hurt themselves - or you - if they lash out because of pain.
And that's not even taking into account the ones you need special needles for. [ His voice is a bit wry. ]

B (with an honorable mention for A)
When it comes to the second class, she's among those that doesn't shy away from it.
The majority of what she had dealt with in the years before coming to Daybreak was minor stuff, so she could probably easily handle the less-severe wounds that Ekkehardt left on the mannequin, but she's opted to address those that looked more-severe first; she suspects that in a real-life scenario, they would need to be prioritized if it was a single person with multiple wounds.
So, anything large or deep enough, she looks over for a moment, and then tries her hand at stitching it closed. She also bandages those same wounds afterward, though not too tightly, in an effort to lessen any further 'blood' loss as well as to make it less likely that the wounds could be agitated or reopened by anything else.
After those, she goes about cleaning and bandaging the remaining wounds, the ones that she had determined were minor.
At this point, were it an actual person, she would be considering the option of using her power to kick-start their recovery.]

You're doing well. [ His tone is mildly approving. ] Have you done things like this before?
no subject
Not for anything too serious, but yeah.
I told you that I was helping my parents out before I came here, right? [Though, at that time, she hadn't explicitly stated what sort of work they did, only implied it.] They're Hunters, and sometimes they'd get hurt. Unless it was bad enough that they wanted to see a professional for it, they'd have me clean it, cover it, and then do my thing.
no subject
What kind of injuries have you seen the most? [ He inspects the stitching on wounds she's already finished, humming a little in thought. ] Blunt force trauma, stabbing or slashing wounds, burns...?
[ He doesn't know what her family hunts, after all. It's always good to ask. ]
no subject
The burns were a bit more common, really.
[Though it would give Ekkehardt some insight as to the sort of things her parents deal with, she's a little unsure about if she should mention that the Silver Chain deals with other humans, even if those other humans are usually from mage families or other organizations that have been determined to be a Problem when it comes to the subject of Nightfall.
If he actually asks, though, she'll tell; it's information that would still be helpful for him to know.]
no subject
[ He doesn't usually feel the need to ask specifics on what various hunters select as their targets, unless it directly concerns him. Right now, all he needs to know is her previous history of injury treatment and how it relates to her work here. ]
Were they mostly magically inflicted, or non-magical?

Are we supposed to carry around face masks and biohazard bags, or are those just for the class?
no subject
Were you thinking of adding them to your equipment?
no subject
no subject
[ He'd raise an eyebrow if he was capable of it at Kokoro's admittance that she carries quite a lot already. Not that he's unused to those who carry large amounts of equipment, but still... ]
What sort of equipment do you normally take with you, out of curiosity?

c2 i completely got distracted OOPS
[He has his cheek propped up on his hand, book open in front of him. He's focused on the pages before him, brow slightly furrowed.]
It seems pretty straight forward.
no subject
[ He pauses. ]
Are there many differences between human and daemon anatomy, now that you've gotten experience with both?
no subject
There are. Asides from the obvious, like daemons having things like tails and horns and other limbs humans lack. They don't the same on the inside at all.
no subject
Is there anything you find especially odd in the differences between the two?
