What You Take With You part II: Reflections In The Fog
Who: All those on the What You Take With You mission and everyone else (who OOCly wishes to join in)
What: An important artifact is brought back only to immedaitely activate. Further details are here.
When: November 10th
Where: Daybreak Campus and around Soliel
Warning: Warn in headers as appropriate
On November 10th the recovery team sent into the Outlands makes their return with the obsidian mirror. Thus far it hasn't seemed any different than any other obsidian mirror, nothing spectacular about it beyond its age and where it came from. But Daybreak was only called to retrieve it, not anything more. The spell is worked to open the path between the Outlands and Daybreak, allowing them back. But as this happens, the mists rise up as they often do when the two worlds intersect. The team might even see it ghosting over the mirror before catching their own reflections in it. A light flashes over its surface and in that instant, the mirror activates.
Just one look in any reflective surface throughout Soliel-- a mirror, a window, a bit still water-- and people will be struck with sudden dizziness, a feeling of being knocked back, and then darkness. You'll find, on waking, a dark and desolate landscape full of smoke and fog. It'll be hard to tell where one is going. You won't be alone. People all over the academy have been brought into this vision. You may run into them, but even more likely, you'll run into the spots of color that cut through the fog.
And dwelling with this color? Why it's you. But better. Or maybe, much, much worse. It seems the mirror has something to show you. But is that something a promise? Or a threat...? Learn its lesson and you may escape both the shadowy realm and a terrible fate in your future. What image will you leave on the world?

"Maverick", huh?
Wiping his eyes and whimpering, he shakes his head.]
M... My n-name is Ricky... Who...?
[Anyone who had met the boy the last time he'd come around would have probably been extremely weirded out by this, but alas. Therion had no way of knowing that the real Maverick had been completely nonverbal at this age.]
no subject
...Sorry. Thought you were someone else. [Sort of. He loosens his scarf a tad so his face isn't so hard to see.] I'm Therion.
[The kid's so little. Therion can remember being that lost and alone, but not that small. There's blood on his face, too. The hell did this to him?
Approaching a scared kid will just scare him more--source: Therion was a kid, once--so, careful not to make any sudden movements, he lowers himself into a loose-limbed crouch right where he is.]
Are you okay?
no subject
U-um. S-someone...hit me... It hurts. An' I don't know w-where I am anymore. Where are my -- my parents?
no subject
[Parents. Plural?
Therion frowns. Is this before Ramona took him in, then? How young does that even make him? Damn.]
I'm not sure, but I can help you look for them. Can you tell me what they look like?
no subject
Mmm. [Ricky nods and takes a big, shaking inhale to gather himself.] Mommy's hair is like mine, but longer... She's taller than Daddy, but he sa -- he says he doesn't care. And he's got -- he's got a beard? It's scratchy.
[Still scrubbing at his face, spreading tears and snot around, with one hand, he holds the other out in a wordless plea for Therion to hold it.]
no subject
Not the way he was left bloody and broken at the bottom of the cliff.]
All right. We can look for them together for a while, but then we should find somewhere safe to get you cleaned up, okay?
[He rises again and finally walks over to take the poor kid's hand.]

It was foggy. They were alone -- assuming there weren't others like him waiting to materialize from the mists. But it didn't matter. He moved like a human, so this would still be easy. He moved like a human, and he would bleed like one, too.
He tucks his face inward with a shaky sob, getting closer to Therion's wrist before he gives up the gig completely. His pulse is a steady taunt, each beat bringing him closer, closer... Ricky can't stand it for long, after losing his prey from before, so he sinks his teeth in and tightens his grip to keep this one from escaping, too.]

[Like Maverick, Therion's first instinct is to yank his arm away, too. Unlike Maverick, Therion's powers--the same ones he demonstrated on Halloween--lets him slip free of both Ricky's fangs and fingers without tearing anything further. In the same motion, as he pulls that side away, he swings his other arm down--and suddenly, there's a knife in it, which he aims to stab into Ricky's neck.
Everyone's learning something today. Ricky gets to discover that Therion's blood tastes not quite human: close enough to satisfy, strange enough to sort of... sparkle on the tongue.
Meanwhile, Therion learns that Ricky fucking bites.]

Ricky snarls, hands grasping uselessly at the air as he tries to hold on. He didn't even get a parting gift of more blood this time -- a shame, this man's blood was far more interesting and he could use a bit more of it for the road. Worse than that, though, is obviously the knife. That kind of really fucking sucks.
Baring his fangs at Therion, all trace of those crocodile tears gone, and he reaches up and takes hold of the hilt to rip it out again, whether Therion's still there to keep it in or not. The wound heals up just fine, thanks vampirism, but to have been stabbed in the first place is frankly pretty insulting!]
That wasn't very nice. Do you need a time out?
no subject
I'm not the one biting the hand that feeds you.
[No time to look at the site of the wound, but it feels deep, and it feels sharp--more like the bite of a knife than a chomp. Human teeth don't do that. And regeneration like that? Therion's seen that before.]
Though I guess that's the point for someone like you, huh? Sorry. I'm not on the menu.
no subject
That's cute. You came up with that pretty fast.
[He doesn't seem put off by the knives or defensive stance. The only thing off about how he's speaking to Therion is that he doesn't have that constant motion a child should have. He's unmoving, somehow even as he tips his head in a nod of acknowledgement and offers a smile.]
I think you're wrong, though... You seem like lots of fun! And I like to play with my food. I think you'll be perfect.
[Aaaand here he comes. Tag, you're it?]
no subject
But he can't keep it up forever. Eventually, Ricky's too close, and Therion only has an instant to block his face and throat with his right arm, sacrificing it to Ricky's fangs.
...Though, if Ricky does bite down, he's going to chomp straight into a metal, rune-inscribed shackle he's been hiding under his hoodie's sleeve.
And at the same time, he flips the knife in his left hand into a hammer grip and jabs sideways, in towards Ricky's knee, just as flame from nowhere leaps to life along the blade.]
