What You Take With You part II: Reflections In The Fog
Who: All those on the What You Take With You mission and everyone else (who OOCly wishes to join in)
What: An important artifact is brought back only to immedaitely activate. Further details are here.
When: November 10th
Where: Daybreak Campus and around Soliel
Warning: Warn in headers as appropriate
On November 10th the recovery team sent into the Outlands makes their return with the obsidian mirror. Thus far it hasn't seemed any different than any other obsidian mirror, nothing spectacular about it beyond its age and where it came from. But Daybreak was only called to retrieve it, not anything more. The spell is worked to open the path between the Outlands and Daybreak, allowing them back. But as this happens, the mists rise up as they often do when the two worlds intersect. The team might even see it ghosting over the mirror before catching their own reflections in it. A light flashes over its surface and in that instant, the mirror activates.
Just one look in any reflective surface throughout Soliel-- a mirror, a window, a bit still water-- and people will be struck with sudden dizziness, a feeling of being knocked back, and then darkness. You'll find, on waking, a dark and desolate landscape full of smoke and fog. It'll be hard to tell where one is going. You won't be alone. People all over the academy have been brought into this vision. You may run into them, but even more likely, you'll run into the spots of color that cut through the fog.
And dwelling with this color? Why it's you. But better. Or maybe, much, much worse. It seems the mirror has something to show you. But is that something a promise? Or a threat...? Learn its lesson and you may escape both the shadowy realm and a terrible fate in your future. What image will you leave on the world?

"I'm not exactly worried..." Well, he is, a little. But mostly he's just curious. "You just remind me of someone I saw once." In a painting. Hints of something, in a dream. "I suppose you just piqued my curiosity."

But he's being rude, isn't he? "I don't think I caught your name Mr...?"

Ah, introductions. Yes. This whole thing has unbalanced him a little, to be honest; he really should remember sooner.
"Gehring. Ekkehardt Gehring, to be more precise. It's nice to meet you."

A little over-the-top, maybe, but the situation they both seemed to be in provided more than enough dramatic background for him to have a little fun.
Even if the way his smile faltered betrayed a hint of embarrassment.

But overthinking aside, it's...cute, in its own way, that politeness. He wouldn't call it attractive, but it's certainly a little charming.
He returns the little bow with one of his own. It's only fair to return the courtesy.
"Oh, very polite. I feel honored. Someone's been brought up with manners, I see."
no subject
"Of course. But you don't need to be formal if you don't like. It's habit for me by now, but uh..." He lowers his voice, glancing around as though he expects someone to jump out from behind some fog bank and chastise him. "I can't stand all that stuffy, courtly stuff."
no subject
He says it in a knowing way; he's infiltrated enough mage parties to get the idea. High society people are high society people everywhere, and mages are a stickler for tradition.
He seems vaguely amused at the way Avery looks around, waiting for a reprimand. "I don't think you need to worry about being chastised, either. I certainly won't be telling anyone."

Politeness is his lot, but he does like conversations with a little more substance. Or a little more challenge, maybe. (He can't remember desiring this sort of thing before, or at least it wasn't something at the forefront of his mind. Having friends has rubbed off on him in unexpected ways.)
"Something on your mind?"

It's not your preferred sort of gathering, I take it? If not, then what do you prefer?"

His brown eyes practically sparkle with intensity. "It's like a grand game of chess, out-strategizing and outwitting your opponent at every turn. There are some boring cases out there, but when you get a good one? It gets your blood pumping like nothing else."
