so many new things, it's like sensory overload
Who: Emille and whomever
What: A. Emille makes herself at home in her office; B. Emille checking out the library; C. An ad posted on the Iris Network; D. Wildcard.
When: Early January, through January 8 or so.
Where: A. Anywhere between Savant and the research labs in the Citadel; B. The prophecy section of the library; C. Online; D. Wherever.
Warnings: None.
A. Moving in
[Emille's eyes had lit up and her heart had skipped a beat in anticipation when she first saw the immaculate white and silver laboratory area underneath Daybreak proper. Supercomputers? Check. A full stock of chemicals? Check. Tables for dissection? Check. Stasis tubes? Check. Check, check, check!
And, best of all -- Emille was appointed as the head of this lab, given free reign to do what she wanted when she wanted as she saw fit. It was all she'd ever wanted; the culmination of so many dreams. The large office directly in the back of the laboratory complex even had her name above the door in gold lettering, and it was enough to make her smile in approval. This was going to be the beginning of something glorious.
The office itself was spacious, with a computer underneath a window looking out over the lab immediately to the left of the doorway. The desk that the computer sat on continued to wrap around the corner to also occupy the entire left wall. Bookshelves lined the back wall, and a couch sat up against the right wall ending just where the door rested when swung open. It was no luxury suite, but it was fully functional for all of Emille's needs. The couch especially caught her attention, and amused her a bit -- yes, yes, scientists were well-known for living in their labs. Sometimes it just can't be helped. But the couch will certainly help when those all-nighters arrive, which she was sure they would.
Ever since then, Emille has been moving boxes of materials from the common room of the Savant faculty dorm all the way down to her office, bit by bit. She wouldn't admit it, but some of the boxes of books are quite heavy for her, and so she's leaving them for last. Or for anyone who takes pity on a child-sized scientist...]
B. Library lurking
[Emille's finally caught a break, and so she's decided to visit the library. She'd heard good things about the number of old and rare tomes available to the campus, but she had no idea about the collection of prophecies housed in the Hall of Pythia.
It's where she is now, perusing the titles, hoping to see if anyone's ever had any visions of Dragon daemons. Someone might want to point her to the prophecy index, though, before she spends all night here.]

Anyone interested in working in a state-of-the-art laboratory or learning about scientific procedures is welcome to join Head Researcher Emille in the Citadel's labs as a lab assistant. As an assistant, you will help with research projects, help keep the lab in pristine condition, and have the opportunity to do your own research.
Multiple positions are available. Students with previous lab experience are preferred, but anyone who is eager to learn is welcome. THIS WILL BE LIKE A JOB, so you will be expected to work and produce results. You will be compensated for your time.
Please reply to this ad or see Head Researcher Emille if you are interested, or if you have further questions. Thank you.

D. Wildcard
Would you like to introduce yourself to Emille elsewhere on campus, perhaps when she doesn't seem as busy? Want to reply to her ad in person? Go right ahead! Or whatever else your heart desires. I'm down for whatever. Emille might not be, but she'll just have to deal with it.

D @ infirmary during late afternoon, the specific day doesn't matter
At the infirmary—one of the buildings she would need to be familiar with if (if) any accidents occurred in the lab on her watch—one of the first things she'll see is one of the academy's students sitting at a table as if she belongs there, flipping through a handful of notes that were presumably taken during some classes. When that girl sees that the infirmary has a visitor, she folds the corner of the page she was looking at to mark it, then closes her notebook, setting it back down on the desk. She then scoots out of her chair and walks over.
She's even shorter than Emille is, though not by too much; three inches, at most.]
Hi, do you need something?
no subject
As she enters the infirmary and sees a female student poring over her notes, it warms Emille's heart. How nice to see such a studious young woman working hard even over winter break. If this is the caliber of the Academy's students, then she'll fit right in. But that's yet to be determined.
When she approaches, Emille nods in greeting.]
Hello. I am merely familiarizing myself with Daybreak's campus before the semester begins. [She looks around a bit, taking in the layout and the light scent of antiseptic.] This infirmary is certainly well-maintained. [Another nod, punctuated by an "mm" of approval. She looks back to the young woman with a slight smile.] You have done a fine job here, as I am sure you are a fine student. [A pause.] You are a student, yes?
[Emille hasn't seen a student roster yet, and she's the first to know: being misjudged by your size (or lack thereof) can be a pain. She just wants to make sure.]
no subject
She's also wound up acting as an assistant here in some other ways, handling various tasks when asked.]
Are you a new teacher, ma'am?
[Becky's been mistaken for a child less than half her own age on some occasions, so she knows the pain well, and wouldn't inflict it upon someone when that someone was clearly carrying themselves as an adult.]
no subject
She's also impressed that Becky was able to correctly assume that she was a professor. Sometimes it's a real shot in the dark as to how people take a stuffy-sounding tiny woman.]
Nice to meet you, Rebecca. [Emille bows towards the student, and says while bowed,] I am Emille of Japan's Murakumo Organization. [She exits the bow.] I have recently arrived at Daybreak Academy as a biology professor and the new Head of Research. [She smiles.] Perhaps I may see you in my classroom this semester? I would be honored to have such an astute student on my class list.
You say you have healing powers? Are many of your patients healed through magical means, or does the infirmary team still need to employ traditional treatments at times? [She's relatively new to all this magic stuff, and it rather fascinates her, especially when combined with the sciences.]

Excuse me, miss...Emille, was it? I can't help but notice that you still have a significant amount to move.
Would you allow me to assist you? [ He'll understand if she wants to do it all herself, but he wants to ask. ]
no subject
Thankfully he caught her while on the Savant steps, so after an actual audible sigh that signified her giving in, she put her box down and acknowledged the offer.]
Sir [ah he had a German name, right? oh right] Gehring? [Her face is flushed from all of the movement in the cold January air as she turns her full attention to him.] I believe I would appreciate a bit of assistance, yes. Even the smallest bit would help tremendously. There are a few boxes immediately inside the Savant building to the right that are a little heavy for me. If you could follow me with one of the boxes, I can lead you to where it needs to go. [She hesitates for a second, then adds,] Just helping with one box would be more than enough.
no subject
It's worth noting that he's only holding one in his arms, however. The other two are being lifted, apparently effortlessly, by bandages that seem to come from behind him. ~*Magic.*~ ]
I'm at your service, miss Emille. Please, lead the way.
[ If she leads, he'll follow, as he's said. He's a man of his word, at the very least. ]
I hope moving in hasn't been too troublesome for you otherwise?

what kind of research is it?
[Yes, that is a little kid thinking about taking a job.]
UN: murakumo_emille
However, for assistants, the most important skill is computer proficiency. The Head Researcher is able to take care of more difficult tasks.
We are happy to answer any further inquiries.

[Really, it's the safest job for anyone of any age! Just sit at a computer and make sure the data that's supposed to be running is actually running, and then print it off once it's complete! ...Whenever that ends up being. Maybe patience should be a required skill also?]
no subject
[She knows how to play computer games and can operate her phone pretty well, anyway.]
you just wanna watch daemons?

[If Emille turns to the voice, she'll spot the familiar face of the woman who aided her not too long ago. A soft smile graces her features as she greets the other woman. It's probably a bit unsettling she was able to get so close without making any noise, but at least she means Emille no harm.]
no subject
She turns to see a familiar face indeed, thank goodness. Trying her hardest to shake off her sudden surprise, Emille adopts a steely visage and nods towards Urtz.]
Ah, yes, I believe I have, Lady Cromwell. I am amazed by the vast amounts of information housed here. I am realizing that there is so much more to everything -- this world, humanity, our past -- than I have ever known. Unfortunately, I have not yet seen anything on Dragon daemons, but I feel that I have merely scratched the surface of the knowledge buried here.
[But that's enough about me--] What brings you into these hallowed halls today?
no subject
No doubt. There's quite a lot of information stored here. I daresay it would take several lifetimes to even have a chance of reading everything here. Just the sort of thing that is of interest to my family and thus to me. It's very likely I'm going to be spending a good deal of my time here, so I thought it for the best to get myself acquainted with this place as soon as possible.

what kind of research do you plan to conduct? super secret ones? any of them involve radioactive spiders?
UN: murakumo_emille | nah Emille needs to deal with the stupid eventually
That could involve radioactive spiders on the off chance that some are brought into our labs, yes.
[Noooot gonna answer that about super secret research, because that's for Emille to
conduct herself when all aloneknow and everyone else stay out of.]no subject

He doesn't know why but her aura resembles that of Scathach, his former teacher. That in itself piques his interest and starts to approach her.]
Sup, ya seem to be in need of assistance. Lemme carry that for you.
[With that, he grabs the box that she carries and walks beside her.]
no subject
Sigh. This is no time to be rude, especially upon first meeting someone. She straightens out her scowl and manages to admit,]
Thank you. However, I would have appreciated you asking to help first before taking my box away. [She shakes her head and sighs.] But since you are already willing to assist me, I can show you where to place that box. We need to head to the labs in the Citadel. Please follow me, Sir...? [Emille looks him over. A student? Most likely. Faculty seem to have more... manners.]
no subject
Tried asking before but it ended up in rejection so over experiences I know this is way more efficient. But sorry if I took ya by surprise. Will note to ask you properly next time.
[and “Sir”? Really now?]
No need to be so formal. Name’s Cu Chulainn. But ya can call me Lancer. I’m an undergrad student here. I assume you are the new professor?

*But this is a library. So...*
Looking for a specific fate?
*Surprise, there's a teenager who doesn't make noise. A very strange concept.*
no subject
A fate, you say? What an interesting term for a prophecy. But yes, I am always in search of any documentation detailing the daemon breed known as the Dragons. I merely have never had the chance to browse prophecies before.
By chance, are you a library assistant, Miss? [Emille looks her over, and assumes she's a student, but if any place on campus needs assistants, this would be the place. She couldn't even imagine having to re-shelve any of these books...]
no subject
*Maya was always surprised when things were real. She shouldn't be, but she was. Her eyes lit up a little and her body language shifted just a bit to say as much.*
They have an index, I don't know how detailed it is. I've never had a reason to look up a specific prophecy.
*She wasn't in them, her interest in prophecies were mostly wondering what one involving her would look like, which she could get from just random ones off any shelf.*
No, I just like the quiet parts of the school. None of these books are buzzing with magic.

What's your lab equipped for?
UN: murakumo_emille
autoclaves, bioreactors, centrifuges, incubators, photometers, reaction calorimeters, thermal cyclers, two supercomputers, plus still more equipment.
A main focus of our lab is studying primarily daemonic biological materials such as tissue, organs, blood, and DNA. We are open to performing medical research as well, or magical research if an interested party has the means to do so.
We would be happy to answer any further inquiries.
