[Open] Iceland Camping Trip

Iceland Camping Trip
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation
The town of scenic Akureyri provides a perfect backdrop for a summer camping trip. It’s more than warm enough for greenery and unfrozen waters, and the townspeople, having been informed of the appointment ahead of time, are amenable and friendly to the newcomers passing through on their way to the planned site.
This is no ordinary holiday, however. Though the town is certainly welcoming, the idea is to camp, and camping is what everyone will be doing - at least for a little while. Professor Emille has her own planned schedule of activities, including river rafting and climbing, and in the spirit of physical education and getting some fresh air away from the Academy, attending students are highly encouraged to follow along with her. As well as those activities, the normal range of camping 'highlights' is present: cooking your own food over campfires and portable stoves, setting up tents, finding good places to sleep or hide, and simply passing the time in the beauty of nature. Just look out for puffins; they seem to be intensely curious about what all these strange people are up to, and you're no exception.
To occupy the campers while they’re recovering between stints of physical exertion, other activities have been provided; the Academy figures it can cover two things in one by providing arts and crafts materials for making convincing-looking ‘extraterrestrial debris’. Strange ‘artifacts’, bits and pieces of apparently offworld ‘technology’, and for those more morbid or curious students, making convincing-looking ‘alien’ skeletons are among the extra camping tasks that both students and staff can choose to take on.

[ And if all else fails...her physical capabilities aren't exactly specialised for strength, but a boulder isn't beyond her. If need be, she's prepared to try her best to shift it. ]

Even so, thinking about rabbit holes isn't exactly too far off the mark... The bell's ring grows louder the closer it is to that group of grasses.]

The sound of the bell does lure here though, so she jumps down to find the others again. Are there any discernible footprints in the dirt? ]

[If there ever were any, they're gone now.
They pick up loose bits of grass and then release it all to the wind.]
We might be able to follow a trail.

Hornet's investigation will lead her in a circle around the boulder, as if the creature in question was busy looking for somewhere to do some digging.
Anybody feel like getting their hands dirty? Quite figuratively and maybe literally too...]
cw for morbid joke I AM SO SORRY.
[ The idea of finding the deceased remains of a cuddly critter doesn't seem to discourage Miach at least. For someone who looks very prim and pretty most of the time, she sure has very few problems with kneeling in the dirt and using her hands to shovel it to the side.
She doesn't actually believe she'll find anything gruesome, but hey. It's something to do. ]
cw for morbid joke continuing...
A paw for luck but not the rabbit's~

The map has their current location dotted, and the next plateau area is circled. There is quite an uphill climb between this section and the next, however.
Congratulations, the group has cleared the first step!]

Then, she looks back to Sira. ]
Will you require aid?
no subject
They're really not going easy on us...
[ However, she's absolutely holding onto that map and leading the group, don't expect her to be helpful else... ]
Keep an eye out for bunnies.
no subject
Ah... [This was unwise of them.] Perhaps.
[They can at least make a start for it on their own, following Miach. They sing-song again.]
Bunnies or beasts~

Alas, it's at the top of one of these cliffs that the ground evens out again, revealing a rocky but grassy tundra scene. Off in the distance, a pair of reindeer are grazing, their antlers beginning to grow back after shedding them the previous winter. No rabbits can be seen upon first glance.
There are several rocky outcroppings along the way that may be hiding a rabbit hutch: one to the left, one to the right, and one closer to the reindeer. Or, conduct your own investigation!]

Though by the time they get to cliffs, she is also struggling. She may come from the mountains, but that was a long time ago, and what's carrying her now is mostly determination. She breathes heavily when they're at the top.
But then there's reindeer and hey, reindeer ARE better than people, so she's going to 'shh' her companions and very cautiously walk that way and try not to startle them. ]

Whichever way they do get up, they're in time to see Miach fix upon the deer. Bunny, dog, deer. They don't make a sound but look to Hornet to see which way she's going.]
no subject
That also means Sira or Hornet may have better luck finding a rabbit from their positions.]

One of the others is likely better suited to progressing this endeavour. ]
