fun with costumes [OPEN]
Who: You! Everyone else! Oh and also Hornet is here too, somewhere.
What: Shopping! Costume workshops!
When: The days leading up to Halloween celebrations (23-29 October)
Where: Soleil and the Academy campus!
A. Shopping Trip
[ Soleil is buzzing with activity as students flock to prepare for Halloween. Whether it's to marvel at what other people have left behind, to marvel at what's been donated in previous years, or you're just trying to pick a costume at all, you have no shortage of creations to gaze upon - and no shortage of your peers to judge them, either.
You can sometimes catch Hornet here, in the days that come, squinting suspiciously at the insect costumes. She mutters and paces, tugging at them like they're personally offensive to her. ]
B. Necessary Modifications
[ For those of a more crafty persuasion, the Academy has opened some usually-vacant classrooms as a makeshift work area for designing and creating your own costumes, or making modifications of your own.
Hornet has taken over a corner of one of the rooms. She's almost a permanent fixture of the workshop, as she sews and cuts with an intensity she usually only reserves for battles. ]
C. Wildcard
[ You can use this to just bother Hornet, or make up your own prompts. Go wild and treat this as a mingle log! ]

[Becky came here with a pretty specific idea in mind, and has spent much of her time looking to find something that would work for what she's been considering. Whatever it is, she's found it now, and is carrying a somewhat-long, flat-looking box, as she follows along with some of the others that she had accompanied on this particular outing.]
B: That's Probably Overkill
[At some point after returning to the Academy, she's gone into one of the classrooms that's been designated as a workshop of sorts for costume creation and/or modification. Carrying a simple-looking (but somewhat-glittery) dress, some canisters of something, and a can of something else, she parks herself in one corner of the room, drags some of the desks around to ensure she has extra space around herself, and takes a paintbrush to the larger can and then to the dress for some not-immediately-apparent reason. In the moments after that...
That entire corner becomes a mess of sparkles.
Those smaller canisters were glitter bombs. She just glitter-bombed an already-glittery dress (and also herself in the process, but she doesn't seem to mind that right now).]
B
... That is a lot of glitter. I have questions.

He might be here to act as an advisor, if you feel so inclined.
Otherwise, Hornet being hard at work caught his attention quickly, and he paced over to her, taking a look over what she was sewing.]
My, but a glance tells me you've put an incredible amount of effort into this, Hornet.

His attitude, she doesn't know what to make of. But she finds his teaching style agreeable.
At his words, she holds up the hooded cape she's been working on, inspecting it with a critical eye. Unlike her more simple cloak and the other clothing she wears, made for drab practicality above all else, this article is different; it drapes like silk, covered with ornate shimmering patterns that appear and disappear with the angle of the light. ]
...It's important for me to. [ She's amenable to more conversation, it seems. While her voice is a little guarded, it's not the blunt wall it normally is.
A six-eyed mask, ready to be smoothed and painted, sits in her lap. ]

...It's... immaculate?
[The daemon's seen a lot of things in his time, but...
...Maybe it shouldn't be so surprising, coming from a spider from Deepnest, but there it was.]
So I see. Is this a traditional ceremonial garb from Deepnest?

[Being called out about her terrible costume last year and dragged to have people make something better this year is humiliating in any situation, but especially if the people calling her out and dragging her around are faculty. Kokoro kind of just wants to sink into the floor.]
Really, it shouldn't be such an issue...
[around town]
[She does manage to get out and look around the town, though, even if her costume's dealt with; it's probably good to see what everyone else is getting. She raises her eyebrows at a series of "sexy" costumes, clearly rushed to shelves, themed to the more famous members of the Daybreak faculty.]
That seems in poor taste.
around town
[Lia's just very high-key "WHY THIS," looking at these.]
This is honestly kind of embarrassing...

[She covers her face in her hands.]
Or particularly stubborn memes. But still, not your actual teachers.

[Valvatorez's retort was quick and firm, as he browsed through many different costumes on a rack, his gloved hands running over the fabric of several of them, testing their build quality and stitching.]
Halloween is an incredibly important and beloved holiday in this institution and an individual of your standing deserves, nay, demands, a costume of great worthiness.
The last one didn't even have the special sauce or the optional sauteed onions and artisan brioche bun!

[She doesn't often look this embarrassed, but right now, she could sink into the floor.]
I know not even where I'm supposed to start with this if it's supposed to be so good!

Hello? Is anyone using this room?
[Oh and right after he checks, the bat realizes the answer is yes.] Ah- Oh dear-
I do hope I didn't...interrupt much?
[Why does Kokoro seem ready to disappear...]

B, OTA
[Alas, they had no costume, but they were more than happy to see what everyone else was working on instead. And sooner or later, they had an idea of their own. ...Or at least, that might've been why they were underneath a pile of scrap material, found from different stations.]
[Either that or a blob of fabric just became sentient enough to move on its own. It was a magic school so anything was possible.]
no subject
Oh...hi? [ He tries to peer under the fabric, wondering if there's a person under there. ]
no subject
[And shakes some of the excess fabric off to reveal more of a mask. Of course some of it was still stuck to the horns, but, they tried.]

[Last year, Desi had taken the easy way out, using her power to make her costume out of shadows. This year, for the sake of doing things differently, she's looking to do something a bit more-mundane, and has been looking around Soleil trying to find something that stands out to her.
So far, no luck.]
C: wildcard
[If you want to just poke her, go for it.]

Would anyone want to help me work out a better costume than last year? I'll be honest, I've never really done this, I'm clueless. Last time I just wore a ribbon.
[And yes, there will be a bird picking through the scraps (with magic in place of real hands). He doesn't know how to sew or where to begin. Help him, his mind is blank.]

Locked to Ekke, though PM if you'd like to do something with Urtz!
This spot seems good. [She says this, turning to Ekkehardt.] Wouldn't you agree?

It suits our purposes well, yes. [ Though he'd make do with anything, really, so is he a good person to ask?
He puts the bags within easy reach of the sewing machine and sits cross-legged on the floor to continue work on his coat. ]
You seem enthusiastic. [ It's a teasing observation. ]
