[OPEN]
Who: Adelaide & OPEN
What: Getting settled into the school and perhaps being a nuisance.
Where: Around campus
When: Late February
Notes: There shouldn’t be any warnings so far.
keeping pace; around campus at night
[Adelaide’s always been a runner - it was something she was good at. It was something she got a scholarship for! But that scholarship doesn’t matter anymore and everything’s just a mess and she has no idea what she’s doing at any given time.
So she runs.
She mainly runs at night, when it feels the best. The sunlight makes her feel sick, makes her feel like she’s running through cold molasses, and she just wants things to be easier. So she can be found running most nights, no matter how cold or snowy it is. Whenever she spots someone she slows down, offers them a nod or a wave - and if it seems like they want to talk, she stops completely.
Maybe if she knew more people here, she’d be less restless.]
pushing forward; the library
[Studying magic might just be the worst thing Adelaide’s ever had to do. It’s magic - shouldn’t it just, like, work?
Apparently not. It doesn’t help she’s come in so close to midterms - the downsides of transferring in, she supposes.]
Uuuuuugh. [Long, loud, and she sprawls back in her chair.] I’m never going to catch up.
gaining traction; aube 4 common room
[Studying isn’t going so well, and she doesn’t feel like going running again. Both of those things would probably be better uses of her time, but... Well. She’s got time to spare to deal with the fallout of that.
And she has plenty of time to learn new hobbies, which is what she’s doing now.]
Hey. [Greetings, stranger. She motions at you with the knitting needles she’s holding.] Do you want a scarf?
[Because someone is getting this scarf she’s trying to knit, if she manages to get the yarn to cooperate.]
wildcard;
[Feel free to run into Adelaide Wherever, or you can hash out plans with me over on discord (nickknack#8156) or plurk (
daintily)!]

Night
Huh, rather odd hour to be jogging.
no subject
[The words are a bit sheepish, and she ducks her head down while raising a hand to scratch at it.]
And just laying in bed staring at the wall sounded pretty boring.
no subject
Fair enough, It was a bit silly to ask that given I'm out for the same reason.

[He reaches back, tightening the cord tying his hair back, going to walk, a silent gesture he didn't want to make her stop her jogging completely]
I think a fair amount of the students and staff are either natural night owls or insomniacs.

night
When she slows down to give Kano a wave, Kano twists that into an invitation to join her, picking up the pace from where he'd been taking a leisurely stroll down the sidewalk. ]
Hi, hi~ Is this a late night jog, or an early morning run?
[ It's another restless 3AM night for him, same old, same old. ]
no subject
She's not sure if she's happy for the company or not, yet, but it offers her a distraction so she'll take it.]
A little bit of both? [She huffs out a laugh.] Depends on if I get any sleep once I get back to my dorm.
no subject
[ The sort where you physically tire yourself out, so you can conk out the moment your head hits the pillow, without your thoughts keeping you up. ]
How 'bout it, should I help tire you out?
no subject
[She's been having a lot of runs like that, lately.]
Heh - you saying you want to race?
no subject
No way, no way~ If it's a race, I wonder if I'd be any good as competition?
[ Does he look like an athletic child??? No, but he also isn't breathing hard at all as he runs, as he can hide that in his voice and just laugh to his heart's content. ]
It's that other talent of mine, you know? People say it all the time! That talking to me is exhausting~ So I thought we could just chat 'til you get sick of me~

wildcard;
Good evening, young lady~! I have a very exciting proposition for you~! Would you perchance be interested in a fish tank!? It's dorm-approved and well cared for!
no subject
A...fish tank? Why are you giving away a fish tank?
no subject
no subject
I'm sorry your jellyfish died! [She does, at least, sound sympathetic.] But I guess if you want to get rid of it, I could...take it? I don't see why not.
[There's a lot to unpack here and she's just not going to.]
no subject
[He's really getting rid of the tank because looking at it makes him sad.]
Do you want to come get it now!? Or I can leave it outside your room! Did you want all the decorations?

Greetings. I heard a very distinct cry of distress. [ His voice is amused. ] Is there anything I might do to assist you?
no subject
I don't know. [She laughs weakly, looking over her stack of books.] I transferred in right before midterms.
[She's fucked.]
library
She lifts her head from her book as she hears her own thoughts given voice by someone else. ]
Tell me about it. [ Videl laments with a mirthless chuckle. ] Who thought this was even fair?
no subject
[Which isn't really much of a comfort at all.]
no subject
That'd be a crummy power: always knowing if you're going to pass or fail, no matter how much you study. [ She leans back in her chair. ] I'm glad I didn't develop that one.
no subject
[She's not sure knowing her life was going to radically change would make things easier to deal with, but it wouldn't have hurt.]
What kind of power do you have?
[She's legitimately curious - speaking of things so plainly is still so new to her, and she's not sure if it's polite to ask? But she's going to anyways.]
Wildcard, moving in
The room, when Adelaide arrived with her suitcase or whatever, was decorated sparsely with a few posters for Japanese pop bands or video games. The TV was on and showed a paused fighting game of some kind, probably Street Fighter or something. All of Kohaku's stuff was neat and organized. There was no offensive odors or anything. Her roommate was apparently a very tidy person.
Kohaku herself, a Japanese teenager with a very androgynous appearance, was working on condensing her stuff so it didn't take up the whole room when Adelaide came in. She turned as the door opened and spoke in accented by understandable English. "Sorry. I meant to have this all cleaned up sooner but I got distracted. You're Adelaide, right? I'm Kohaku, and I guess you're my roommate now."
no subject
Which will at least mean their room won't be so crowded.
She offers Kohaku a bright smile, before setting down a suitcase to free up a hand which she offers to the other. "It's no problem! It's plenty clean already - and it's nice to meet you."
no subject
She offered her own hand, which was pretty heavily calloused. The sword hanging by her bed was the cause of that. "You too."
A pause.
"Do you need any help with those?" She asked, gesturing at the suitcases.
no subject
Also, a sword? That gets Adelaide's attention - her eyes widen and she looks surprised, but she tries to tamp down on her curiosity."
"Ah, no, I don't have that much stuff so it's not a big deal," she says as she starts dragging her suitcases into place on her side of the room.
There's a pause.
"So, do you like, sword fight? Is that a real sword?!"
