[open]
Who: Hieke & OPEN
What: Setting up some security (?) and practical lessons.
Where: Around campus! In the classroom!
When: Early March
Warnings: Self-inflicted injury in the classroom prompt. I’m sorry Hieke’s like this.
a little bit of caution; around campus
[At the end of February, Hieke has an idea. It’s a perhaps questionable idea, but it’s one he takes and runs with.
Sigils.
Daemon-summoning sigils, specifically. They’re easy enough to craft, easier to use, and get installed in various hot spots around the campus. The training grounds, the dorms, even the cafetiera and some hallways have sigils.
Each is marked with a sign - “Use in case of emergency.”
What entails an emergency? Well, that’s up to you.]
thrown to the wind; the classroom ((reiterating warnings for self-harm!))
[This class starts the same as any other. Hieke’s already leaning against his desk, patiently waiting for students to file in. Particularly keen-eyed students might notice the desk is completely empty except for…
A dagger.]
Alright! Today’s class is going to be a little bit different. We’ve done a lot of talking about theories when it comes to healing, but theories only go so far to get you prepared. What we need is something a bit more practical.
[He straightens up, taking the knife in hand. It’s an elaborate dagger - the blade is carved and the handle is dotted with gems - and Hieke holds it like he’s held it countless times before.]
We could go out into the Outlands or to a nearby hospital - but one of those is dangerous and another one would give away too many secrets, so your patient for today will be… Me. All you need to do is mend the cut.
[What cut? Why, the one he slices into himself at that statement.]
But don’t worry. If you don’t manage anything, it’s not that deep.
[But it’s definitely deep enough to bleed.]
one year older; the infirmary
[There’s a moment on March 1st where Hieke is out of the infirmary - called away on an emergency. A personal emergency. Because, yes, he has his own life outside of this school.
So anyone who wanders in will get quite a peculiar sight - a mushroom, about a foot tall, trying to lift a plate onto Hieke’s desk. It seems to have made a set of stairs out of boxes and books, and is pushing and pulling the plate (which has a cake, of all things, on it) up the stairs. It has very, very spindly arms, so it’s kind of a struggle.
A second mushroom is standing by the door, and it wobbles for a moment before letting out a few alarmed spores.
Whatever it is you’ve walked in on, something’s up.]

Infirmary
[Jail casually strolls in without bothering to knock, only to pause at the sight of the mushrooms.]
[She looks at them for a moment, discreetly pulls out her hip flask, and eyes it dubiously. ...Nope, that's definitely still just coffee in there. Doesn't smell tampered with either.]
...eh, fuck it.
[She puts the flask back in her pocket and shrugs. Sure, whatever, this may as well be a thing. They seem well-meaning, at least.]
You guys need some help with that?
no subject
Only nearly, because it wasn't able to life it very high to begin with.
If Jail approaches, she'll notice the cake as been crudely decorated with something that almost, but not quite, looks like "Happy Birthday!"]
no subject
[She tilts her head, puzzling out the attempted message.]
Oh, hey, it's the doc's birthday? That explains it. [This explains almost nothing, Jail.]
Sweet of you guys to get him something, that's cool of you.

A little bit of caution
[He does. Gleefully.]
[At least this time Hieke can rest easy knowing that Avery is completely unharmed. For once.]
no subject
At least Avery is treated to a shockingly plain daemon summoning. He uses the sigil and goes from being alone, to Hieke standing right there.
He blinks at him.]

Thrown to the wind
As such, he doesn't go down to Hieke until the end of class, when the kids are starting to clear out. Before getting too close, he lifts a hand.]
Hey - don't cut yourself. Unless you want to technically make a blood sacrifice to me, in which case, feel free.
[Even if it's not a summoning, it'd be for him. There's a few fiddly bits to that.]
no subject
[He's made a few mistakes in his life, but sacrifices to another daemon would be a new one.
He's actually kind of curious how it would go. Whoops.]
no subject
[lol, how often does one get a daemonic blood sacrifice?]
I'd get some power, and I might be able to detect your blood and magic afterwards. Not sure how much power it'd be, actually - it wouldn't be much if that were human blood, but I've never gotten a sacrifice from another daemon. They have to be willing, or that's just murder.

Hello, little mushroom~!
[It's a big mushroom, though, really.]
Did you make that yourself~!? Is it a regular cake or is made of like dirt or insects or whatever mushrooms eat!? Do mushrooms eat!?
[Another mushroom by the door looks a bit jumpy. Maybe it's hungry and wants some of the dirt cake.]
no subject
If not - well. Stool will have to hope their charades are good.]
It's for Hieke!! It's for his birthday and he doesn't have one this year!!
[It gestures at the plate, then at Hieke's desk. Help them get it up there?]
no subject
You want me to help!?
[He takes the cake plate from the mushroom and sets it on the table.]
Is there a party!? You should have more than cake at a party, mushroom~! Like chips and little sandwiches~!

campus
Instead of using any of the symbols seen around campus, Kano snaps a photo of one of them and retreats to his usual haunt of the Lumière dormitory rooftop, back against the bars of the railing and a worn notebook balanced on his knees, pen in hand, and starts starts copying the sigil onto the page as many times as it takes for him to get it right. ]
no subject
It's not a very dramatic summoning. There's just a popping noise and then Hieke is there, looking a little concerned.
And then he sees Kano sitting on the roof and lets out a sigh.]
Can I help you?
no subject
Can you feel that, when I draw it? Can you tell who it is that's asking for you? It's choice, right? If two people draw it at the same time, you've got to choose who to help and who to let die, right?
[ Hieke can help! By playing 2346908734 Questions with Kano, but nobody is actively dying, no. ]

but also the classroom prompt bc I'm curious
Right now, it's Kano standing up in front of the class, glancing between all that blood and the blade in Hieke's hand. ]
Can I use any method?
wowowow
[He's curious what Kano's going to do - he's really curious about what any other student would do. But Kano is a bit of a wildcard, and he waits for him patiently to make his move.
That's part of what this is testing, anyways. What the students will think as acceptable when faced with something they're responsible for.]

Caution
So Yuya grabs a knife from the kitchens (he'll return it later, it's fine) and has Odd-Eyes on standby outside as he stares at one of the sigils at the Lumiere dorm with serious concentration.
Knife held defensively in absolutely the wrong form, Yuya reaches to quickly trigger the sigil. He's ready, daemons.]
no subject
He blinks at Yuya, gaze going between him and the knife and his terrible form, before he looks to the sigil.]
...Hi?
no subject
It's the school nurse.
Yuya gapes, flustering for a moment before belatedly hiding the knife behind his back.] H-Hi, Mr. Hieke! [Why doesn't he have a last name.] I didn't know that was yours!

The latest of early march classrooms
He doesn't have to do much assistance for this class which means he can just sort of sit off to the side, take notes on occasion. Even the knife is regarded with a mild admiration. Looked pretty cool. And dios, he could do avoiding both those places and--
What.
He starts in place, coming back to himself like someone's hit the breaks on a car and jolted him forward, half-winded. He scrambles up out of the desk, hesitates, then starts forward. He hisses to Hieke under his breath.]
You're doing this like this? Now?
[It's probably not that early to do this stuff, he has been out of it for nearly a month now. He huffs a breath and holds out his hand, trying to remember everything at once and not panic. It's not a deep cut but that doesn't mean he wants to screw this up.]
Can I see the injury?
no subject
How else would I be doing this?
[It, genuinely, hasn't occurred to him that this way is a little unorthodox. It seems the most logical to him, so it's the way he's going to handle it. Simple enough.
He holds out his arm for the man to see, though, curious about what he's going to do.]
