The daemon base was large, a massive obsidian skull carved from the base of a black, foreboding mountain within the Outlands and surrounded by a forest of dead trees. This was inevitable, as accompanying faculty could explain. As much as it could influence the human world, the Outland was heavily influenced and shaped by human thought and culture. Weaker daemons, such as those within the base, would find their personality, forms, and even desires inexorably shaped by the thoughts of humanity and what was perceived humans would expect and fear.

The focus of the two main assault groups would be the clearing of the main hall and the lower dungeons. The groups will be divided as follows:

To get through to the fortress proper, the students will have to make their way through the forest. This is an open log, even for those who didn’t sign up and will consist of clearing a path and fighting off living trees and mimics in the form of any number of objects that would otherwise be expected in forests such as rocks, brambles, bushes, and other foliage..

The Main Hall is lined with massive rooms full of daemons such as the banquet hall, treasure vault, and throne room where the daemon lord resides. The Daemon Lord is the target here, and he’ll be well-guarded. Beware! Many of the rooms are trapped with mimics taking the form of treasure chests, braziers, boxes, barrels, and just about any other item.

The Dungeons are where captured humans are kept and tortured. The objective is to free the humans and defeat the Jailer, a powerful Daemon who runs the chambers. Students should beware, doppelgangers are said to be commonly slipped in amongst prisoners to ferret out rebellion and will be hidden in with those who are to be rescued.

The Control Room is located in the Citadel, with a massive monitor visualizing the area with floor plans and video feeds. All students and faculty will be wearing small cameras that will record live footage, and will be wired with a communication earpiece that will let those in the Control Room communicate freely. Students working in the Control Room will be able to relay data and information, and use the powerful supercomputers to analyze items on the ground in near real-time.

Hey there.

[No visible signs of injuries, which...isn't necessarily good or bad. At least he's here to be treated.]

I'm going to assume not everything is alright as it seems. Any pain?

Yeah. [Yuya fidgets with the button of his shirt.] My arm got burned, I think, but it doesn't look normal?

Well, I would imagine daemon-fire is a bit different to regular fire. [He leans forward to get a better look, reaching out.] Is it alright if I...?

No, it wasn't a daemon.

[He worries over his lip briefly, feeling even more unsettled. Maybe he should try and call that familiar back here...

He looks up when Hieke reaches out.] Uh, it's on my bicep.

[So he starts to unbutton his shirt, holding in a sound of pain. When he reveals more of his right arm, it's easier to see that the skin that was burned has turned ashy and grey with some normal blistering at the edges. Like some sort of magical allergic reaction.]

It wasn't?

[And ah, that looks bad. Not unfixably bad, but it's clearly not from fighting any daemons. What are these kids getting themselves into?]

What caused it, then?

A... something I summoned as a familiar from the Outlands. I thought one that the daemons were weak too would be a good idea, but we didn't get past the forest.

[It's probably still out there, fighting. Aw, man...] I got caught in the middle of the fight, it didn't attack me!

[Something from the Outlands... Well, that's vague and doesn't narrow down the cause, but it means it's probably something he can still treat.]

I see. I'm sorry that happened - and this might feel a little strange.

[Hieke places his hand on Yuya's shoulder, being careful not to touch the actual burn. His hand is cold to the touch, though, and Yuya will feel a sensation like cool water being poured down his arm.]

[The coolness is a relief, and Yuya's shoulders sink a little before he straightens up again to make sure he doesn't interfere with the healing.

It doesn't seem to respond quite right, though. Yuya doesn't notice, not knowing how it should work, but while the pain is easing the wound isn't shrinking, and the color is taking too long to fade.]

[When the wound doesn't start healing up, Hieke realizes exactly what kind of creature Yuya would've been summoning from the Outlands. Something to fight daemons, specifically.

And, unfortunately, his magic is mostly daemonic. Because he's a daemon.]

Sorry, sorry, it's not all better yet.

[He takes a step back, turning to rummage around for a bag he knows he set down somewhere.]

This burn is going to be a little tricky.

It... is? [Yuya raises his brows, carefully holding his expression not to look worried.

Focus on the positive. It's a little better already, so it's probably going to heal either way. Even without magic. He hopes.]

It seems that whatever caused it is anti-daemonic, which means my normal methods won't be as effective.

[A-ha! Found it.]

Still treatable, it just might take a bit more time and won't be as easy as just, you know, waving my hand over it.

[He stands up, holding a small vial filled with a pink liquid.]

Uh--anti-demonic? [Yuya eyes the vial. What, is he gonna get a shot?] Yeah, I was trying to summon something with a holy symbol for fighting the daemons, so... I guess I did it right?

[And got this wound for his troubles. Maybe he shouldn't think too deeply about the implications of having such a nasty reaction to it.]

Seems like it. [It's definitely very suspicious, but Hieke's not going to point that out. It's not really his business, is it?

He bites the stopper off the vial, before crouching down next to Yuya to slowly pour it over the wound. That should do the trick.]

[Oh, it's not a shot.

Yuya wiggles his fingers experimentally while it heals over.] So turning grey like that is normal...?

[A lesson in not asking questions you don't want the answer to.]

[It's definitely not a shot.]

Mmm, not usually, no. I wouldn't think it is.

[You really shouldn't have asked. Oh well. You'll know better for next time, Yuya.]

... Oh. [Yuya pointedly looks anywhere else in the room.] Is it still going to take a while to heal?

It'll take longer like this, but it should only take a few hours, at maximum. [He stands back up, recapping the vial.] But let me know if it doesn't clear up by tomorrow.

[Well that's still faster than he expected otherwise. Yuya nods, forcing up a slightly strained smile.] Okay, I will. Thanks, Mr. Hieke.

[He starts to button his shirt back up after testing his arm.]

[It's magic! Magic generally works pretty fast.]

It's no problem.

[He pauses for a moment, frowning, before he lets out a sigh.]

Also, I'd probably not summon that particular creature again for a while.

[Yuya starts to get up, but Hieke's recommendation has him freeze up for a moment.]

I--yeah, I'll try not to. [But what if it just follows him, how does he send it back, how does he cut their connection?? This has never been a concern before now.

Yuya staggers to the exit of the tent, suddenly feeling a lot more hollow.]
