A school like Daybreak collects a frankly absurd amount of supernatural power. It's like a beacon that shines across the spirit world. Smarter, older spirits know better than to get anywhere near it lest they get exorcised by some VERY powerful people. Weaker, dumber spirits can't figure out how to get past the school's wards and defenses.

There's a VERY slim window of spirits that can figure out how to slip through without notice, and these occasionally show up and haunt stuff. Nothing as scary as the hollows. Just the odd poltergeist. Annoying, but not a serious danger to anybody.

Isabel approves of this situation.

Anywhere on campus that students are allowed, and possibly a few places they aren't, there is a small but non zero chance of finding her fighting one. If you happen to be spiritually sensitive enough to see ghosts and spirits, you'll semi-regularly find Isabel trash talking various angry ghosts in a bizarre mix of French and Spanish while shooting bolts of red energy from her fingers at them. If you AREN'T spiritually sensitive enough, you'll see the same scene, but without the ghost or the bolts of red energy. It looks like she's just shouting at the air while jumping around like an idiot. Is this improv street theater? Is she playing pretend? Why is she suddenly yelling at you to duck?

"What happens to the ghosts that get eaten? They...get eaten. Dissolved into spectral energy to feed the spirit. Just like when alive people eat stuff."

"Pleasant," He says dryly. And in a horrible way, kind of relief. At least if a poltergeist happens to him or anyone he knows there won't be some ravenous monster born of that trying to kill loved ones. Again.

He's glad he doesn't need to eat. All of this would make him want to avoid touching anything at all ever again.

"Well, now that that's all out of the way..." He swaps hands for his cane and holds his freed one out to her. "I'm Héctor."

"...Did I skip that step?" How embarrassing. "Isabel. I'm a student here."

He snorts, smirking a bit. "I think we were both a bit too distracted for introductions." Just a bit. "Mucho gusto, Isabel. I'm a night class TA. Started here about a semester ago."

"I've lived in Soleil most of my life, honestly. Somtimes I forget some people aren't used to how crazy it gets around here."

"Hah! ¿No manches?" He grins wry and rueful. "I almost think you have to get into all this young. I got stuck in the Outlands even and I'm still not used to this place." He shrugs. What can you do?

"I've found that it normally takes people about two years to get past the stage where they disbelieve everything out of habit."

"Two years? You sure you're not being stingy with the numbers there?" He says that more than a little wry.

Thinking it over...

"...No two years sounds about right."

He laughs. "Guess I'm a slow learner then." He shake his head helplessly. What can you do? "Definitely been thrown into all this longer than two years. But hopefully that means I can pick up the ghost parts of this faster."

"It's an average." She retorted.

"Anyways, uh. I'm gonna head to lunch now." Using her powers a lot left her feeling drained. Food helped. "But nice to meet you. I'm Isabel."

"Nice to meet you too, Isabel." He'll just glaze over the part where they already exchanged names. The poor kid looks as though she's feeling awkward enough. He gives her a brief wave before she runs off.
